Dear Renu Desire is a seeking for horizontal expansion or growth within the magic circle of ignorance within which we are presently imprisoned. It is a growth in quantity and not in adding a new quality to life. It is born out of the ignorant vital in man that is ever restless for change since it has stopped getting joy from its objects. Aspiration, on the other hand is something like a vertical ascension. It seeks newer and greater heights, new capacities, new qualities. Its urge comes from the soul and carries within it combines intensity with patience. Therefore a seeking for things that are higher and greater than our present mundane existence would not so much qualify as a desire as for aspiration. It is a subjective inner change rather than merely a change of objects outside. Desire and its offspring ambition and lust give us the illusion of progress and thereby keep us tied to the outposts of ignorance while expanding its circle. Aspiration on the other hand breaks through the circle and fence of ignorance and hence carries within it the key to all true progress. Affectionately Alok bhai
