    As a nurse practicing PRP injections (>6 patients a day!). I find that the TSK invisible needles make PRP super comfortable. Also the u225 device practically makes this treatment painless and effective ! No numbing cream needed.

    Just got my PRP done today, honestly, I was very nervous and scared as I have heard a lot of people saying that it hurts a lot. My honest review is that, NO it does not hurt at all. The physical pain is 2/10 or maybe 3/10 in some areas of the scalp. But the real pain was mental pain haha, what made me more nervous was thinking that a needle was injected into my scalps, however, I didn't feel anything. Truth be told, the whole thing was over in less than 5 mins.

    PRP really works! I got back to full density in the areas that had less loss (top and front) and good density in the crown (not full…but I am not complaining…with proper styling you really can’t tell). My doctor doesn’t do one-at-time needles. It’s four needles connected…not sure what you call it but she fills it up once and it injects from four needles at a time, each about .5 inches apart. It’s weird…spring loaded like a stapler. Then a single needle is used around the front hairline. So it only takes like 5 - 7 min total for the crown, top of my head, and front hairline. It hurts, but 5-7 min of pain is not bad…you’re given balls to squeeze which helps. Take some Tylenol before and after to help manage pain too. Another important thing, you have to be sedentary for like 3 days after…no exercise, not a lot of walking. Blood flow will carry the platelet matrix stuff from your scalp to other area of the body, and you want to prevent that as much as possible and give the stuff time to do its thing. Finally, you really should supplement it with daily finasteride, and I would also say daily minoxidil. If you don’t you are risking throwing all that money for PRP down the drain IMO. Father Time will get you and you will see less impressive results as you age so finasteride will help you keep what you have so PRP doesn’t have to work as hard.

  • @khurram_

    Hi Doctor, thanks for this video. Two questions:
    (1) Would you recommend PRP in addition to finasteride? If so, how do you know whether the PRP is contributing to the improvements?
    (2) How long does it take to identify whether PRP is working or not and do you lose the gains if you stop doing it?

    • @usamasyed
      @usamasyed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hey Khurram, thanks for the questions!
      1) I always do recommend continuing finasteride because in real life terms, I’m all about maximising results using as many different mechanisms as we can, and finasteride has a proven track record of efficacy to some extent in male pattern hair loss. Like you said, that makes it difficult to run it as a true ‘controlled experiment’ for yourself, because you’re not likely to know exactly what contribution each intervention is providing. Often patients have used finasteride by itself for many months-years and so they have basically trialled it by itself by that point, meaning if they notice a significant improvement in hair growth after the PRP you can safely attribute that to the PRP!
      2) In the studies done so far improvements were noted by as early as 8 weeks follow up! Because it’s a relatively new technique, we don’t have a lot of research on what would happen if you entirely stopped getting PRP, as the recommended protocol is to continue 6 monthly ‘maintenance’ injections so you don’t run the risk of losing all your progress. It may end up that if you stop completely the gains are immediately lost (like in Rogaine), or it may be that the response is more long-term, it’s tough to tell! (My bet is on the former of these 2 scenarios).

      What if your DHT levels are low to begin with, I mean seriously, I can't imagine I clocked in from the bare minimum of normal for DHT (I'd have been low if I was lower) to fluctuating to high enough to cause baldness or swell the prostate. Mostly worried about DHT inhibitor going systemic/causing sides as I feel like I would be prone.
      And some of my scalp thinning is due to simply having to use steroid treatments/inflammation outbreaks/keto/medical shampoo. Makes me wonder if PRP would benefit me more or have less of a risk for benefit.
      Also side note: can we get away with 1x a day Minox? Or find an affordable minox + tretinoin + topical corticosteroid perhaps?
      I mean that isn't like 100+$ a month for way too little.

    2 questions:
    (1) How soon after your initial PRP session do most patients begin to see growth?
    (2) Is it possible to apply an anesthetic / numbing agent so the injections don't hurt as much?

    • @usamasyed
      @usamasyed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Some patients notice a difference within a few weeks of a PRP session! In terms of the numbing part, it's very tough, as anesthetic typical comes in cream/injection forms. Creams are hard to use on the scalp, and injections, well... they require injections which are also painful! Some places use ice, vibration devices etc. which can help minimize pain

    How much blood is taken? 22cc's? How much PRP does that create? 10cc? How many injections is 10cc of PRP? Why isn't he more specific ?

    • @usamasyed
      @usamasyed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Can range from 10cc to 30cc typically of blood! And the yield of PRP is dependent on the operator, some people prefer 'very concentrated' PRP, so a 30cc venous blood draw may yield 3-5cc of PRP. Others don't discard as much platelet poor plasma, so may have more 'PRP' to inject in the end. No hard rules here.
      And I don't know why he isn't more specific, he's probably just an idiot

    I hate to say this but PRP just make me worst. I started losing hair at 24 but i regain it with minoxidil. At 29 i had some problems in my life and started noticing that minoxidil was not working...stated losing a lot of hair and 3 months ago i reach out to a very nice doctor in my city to find a way to at least stop the hair falling. The doctor said that its still not to late to save it and she will prefer not a transplant but PRP and Mesotherapy . After 3 sessions of PRP and 1 of Mesotherapy i can say that i am in the worst condition ever. All that ruin my hair. I lost a lot more after those sessions and in 2 weeks i have a meeting with the doctor to talk about it and i think i will stop all this bullshit cuz i don't want to be bald.
    Conclusion : Losing hair is a hard thing to deal with, try PRP only if you have nothing to lose...if you are bald, you should try but if you still have some hair stay away.

    It's subjective to the individual and severity, lifestyle, what there doing at home to treat etc regards how many sessions are needed I believe. I've known people having one session along with maintenance DIY treatments have been great for months. I think for many Dr,s and clinics it's money making - charging between £300 to £500 per PRP session is Absolutely ridiculous. I'm lucky enough to have someone close to me who works in the medical field who is actually going to get a centrifuge machine and save a TON of money in the long run. I just think Clinics tend to take advantage of patients regarding PRP pricing and " how many sessions required".

    • @usamasyed
      @usamasyed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely possible! All I can say is about what the ‘best research’ currently shows as a treatment protocol, but there’s every chance that there are other protocols that have not been studied which may be as effective and NOT require those same number of sessions. There’s no denying there’s a huge profit motive for providers doing this procedure which is hard to separate away from the science e.g. are providers likely to even take part in a study that tests less treatments when they have such a clear incentive for encouraging more procedures?

    • @jayedwardsuk5984
      @jayedwardsuk5984 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@usamasyed Agreed!! I think that's why many many more general public people are being trained in non-invasive aesthetic procedures themselves these days and are a lot more interested in doing treatments on themselves or DIY. Allbiet deemed " not safe " or ideal from a medical stand point granted but knowledge is power right. We are much more aesthetically aware generally on how clinics, dr's, skincare derm's , hair pros etc seem to monetize massively and talk a good talk on said topics to get you in their clinic, buy there products and devices and tend to dominise anything outside of their own practices. It's not always about medical studies it's about peoples experience, which is why TH-cam is an absolute godsend when it comes to the comment section. I believe that's where a lot of truth actually lies based on people's personal experience and their own knowledge too.

    • @usamasyed
      @usamasyed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep, for sure! You always see this in specialised sectors where they intentionally build up walls around certain types of practice, procedures etc which are lucrative for them. Inevitably the market comes along and tries to disrupt these power bases. Hopefully a balance is reached between making beneficial treatments more financially accessible, whilst also keeping them out of the hands of dangerous bad actors (I’m not exaggerating when I say that I’ve seen hundreds of patients injected with fake fillers, ‘Botox’ that did nothing but give them an infection, etc).

      Topical minoxidil combined with a derma roller to increase the penetration, as well as finasteride, are both evidence based options for hair loss! I recommend discussing with your dermatologist which might be the right ones for you!

    • @usamasyed

      @@mohammadsk2974 retinol can help to increase skin turnover and in theory increase penetration of other products, but because the base of the hair follicle is SO deep, it's not likely to make a huge difference.

    Hi Dr Syed, thank you for your sensitive and informative video! Just one question - would you recommend prp to a woman in their 2nd month of telogen effluvium? (Aka me!) My shedding has not yet stopped, but I’m eager to reduce the appearance of bald patches. Will prp help to speed up/stimulate growth in the patches where I’ve already lost hair …despite the fact I will be continuing to lose hair in other patches? I hope this makes sense. From a slightly anxious 22 year old girl battling a receding hairline aa!
    P.S. my Doctor and I are fairly certain the cause of my telogen effluvium was extreme weight loss (3 months prior) and I have already returned to a normal healthy diet and introduced daily supplements. I’m aware that treating the underlying cause of t.e. is the go-to! :)

    Could the difference in why it works for some but not for others have to do with the richness of the plasma in growth hormones. Furthermore, as you are probably muslim, do you think the use of a derma stamp which kind of does the same as hijama but without the blood being cupped out help even more with hair growth. There are many info already going around with the derma stamp to get people their hair line back together with Minoxidil and it kind off remind me of Hijama without the cupping. Also, I know a hijamist who was able to get someone to get their hair completely back (This happened in the best dutch hijama clinic done by a certified doctor that deepened her roots in hijama) from severe alopecia with several times of hijama treatments. Would a combo of Minoxidil (and others like finasteride), derma stamp together with wet cupping of hijama potentially cure severe cases of alopecia? Cause the healing of the disease is in the cut if we look at the Hadith regarding hijama and derma stamo kind off does what the hadith mentions as making very small cuts 😊. Ofcourse lets not forget the dietary intake such as borage oil etc... 🤔
    So instead of injections, you make a derma stemp device which excretes growth hirmone rich plasma after putting a 5 minute suction (like hijama cups do) to increase the blood flow towards the hair follicle and increase the chance for hair growth in more people.
    Another reason why is might work in some and not in others is to look at the thickness of the skinn. For hijama you only need to go into the first layer of the skin and no more, but in some places this is thicker than on other places and some people in generally have thicker skin than others. Would the thickness of the skinn have anything to do with why hair growth works for some people but not for others? 😕 This might be interesting to look into and see what this could do for people that have alopecia maybe 🤔

    I have a question: PRP at the time of preparation looks yellowish.. however at the time of injecting it looks like a red liquid. Why's that??

    • @usamasyed
      @usamasyed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should actually ALWAYS look yellowish, because the red blood cells which give blood that red colour should all be filtered out. However, sometimes when people ‘shake’ the tube some red blood cells can escape from the gel separator and mix with the PRP!

    Just got my PRP done today, took about 30 min paid $900 for 3 sessions, once a month, got a discount paying all upfront.
    It did hurt me quite a bit, they took the blood, did all that and they started needling my head. Feels like getting a tattoo if you know the feeling, they did offer me ice to numb my head meanwhile.
    After the 30 min session went on my way home. It did hurt for about 2 hours, feel like a minor headache.
    No bleeding, etc.
    Looking forward to the results, if any.
