    I've watched about a dozen soldering videos, but this is the first one that has taken the time to explain things like angles and grips. As a beginner, it improved my soldering in minutes. Thank you.

    OMG! The one simple tip to hold the tip upright, not flat has made all the difference in the world! I have watched countless videos and have gotten so frustrated that I can't get a bead, because they all omit to mention that one "little" thing Thank you!

      I am new to the craft and I have even reached out to local stores around me that do stained glass art and I have NEVER heard about holding the tip upright so I always hold it flat and now that I watched this video, I tried it upright and it has made ALL THE DIFFERENCE.

    Has it really been a decade? :D
    Steena Gaut has such a kind voice, her suggestions are so down-to-earth... but don't be fooled, dear viewer, this is a master at work sharing her insights.
    The way she twists and turns as she paints the solder onto the glass with such aplomb is a wonder to behold. She makes it look so easy that I have to keep reminding myself that I am many moons away from being able to do this... but boy oh boy, she sure makes it tempting to give it a try.
    Thank you so much... 11 years since you did this, but thank you!

    As others have commented, this so far has been the best tips on soldering. Informative, detailed and brief. 👍
    Didn't know about vertical and horizontal position make a difference and pulling it off onto the glass. I always struggle with sharp points when I stop.

    The most helpful soldering video I have ever seen. Thank you so much for such clear demonstrations and explanations. I've been having an awful time with my soldering & had no idea why. Learning how the tip should be angled is going to make a world of difference

    You make it look insanely easy!! I tried stained glass soldering for the first time and it was a huge struggle and the final product looks super messy. Realizing I made a lot of mistakes, not using the right tip wrong angle, and not priming the tip so the melted solder slides off. I will have to keep trying when I decide to do another one.

    Hi I noticed a couple of white spots appear in my finished piece. Does that mean the iron was too hot or solder overworked? Is there a way to fix it?

    • @DelphiGlass
      @DelphiGlass  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for taking the time to watch our video. To this sounds like oxidation, not an issue from the iron or solder. To remedy this you need to neutralize the project with a flux remover. CJ’s or NeutraClean needs to be lathered for 2-3 minutes on the project to neutralize the acid left behind from the flux and then rinsed with water. The other flux remover we carry is called Kwik-Clean. This can be sprayed then let sit on the piece for 1-2 minutes, then it can be wiped off. No water needed with that product. I think this will solve your issues you are seeing with white spots.

    what are the qualities of the soldering iron used here? is a 100 watt iron sufficient?

  • @paulreimer7781
    @paulreimer7781 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does the iron heat the glass joint? Or just melt the roll of 60/40 lead/tin?

    • @DelphiGlass
      @DelphiGlass  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are just melting the solder. If the iron is held in one place to long the heat will cause the glass to break.

    I need to solder 2 eye lets at top of piece to hang. What do u recommend?

  • @danielfeldt3745

    You can buy metal wick that removes extra solder once heated instead of cleaning the tip and dipping multiple times. Much quicker.

    How many watts for the soldering iron?

  • @terminsane
    @terminsane 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    get some rosin flux paste and cover the joints before you solder.
    you'll get incredibly shiny solder joints.
    youll have to wash it off after with alcohol

    • @DelphiGlass
      @DelphiGlass  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure you have flux and enough. Its a fine line thought if you have to much it will pop like bacon grease in the pan. But without it solder will not stick.
