Boss GT-1 USB-Recording | Parameter Settings Tutorial

  • Greetings, everyone!
    Here's a new video tutorial for the Boss GT-1 Multi Effects Guitar Processor.
    In this tutorial I'll share with you the Boss GT-1's USB-menu, and how important the USB-setting can be, for when you're recording with the Boss GT-1.
    As stated in the video, there are 3 main parameters:
    - Mix Level:
    Adjusts the level of the audio input from the computer.
    At this time, the audio input from the
    computer is mixed at the fial stage of the GT-1 .
    - EFX Out
    Adjusts the level at which the sound processed by the effcts of the GT-1 is output to the computer.
    - Direct Monitor
    Switches whether the sound of the GT-1 is output to the PHONES jack or the OUTPUT jacks.
    * This setting cannot be saved. It will be ON when the unit is powered-on.
    OFF
    :
    Turn this of if the audio data is being passed “thru” within the computer.
    In this case, you won’t hear sound unless the computer is set to “thru.”
    ON:
    The sound of the GT-1 is output directly. Turn this on if you’re using the GT-1 on its own without connecting it to a computer. (If you turn this off only the sound being input via USB is output.)
    The EFX Out is the most important parameter, because it will set the output level for the USB-signal coming into your computer and your recording software.
    If you experience a low/weak signal, when recording, the increase the EFX Out parameter.
    As always, let me know if you have questions or future requests.
    Have an excellent weekend.
    Cheers.

    After I made changes and turned power off, everything was lost. Finally I realized the WRITE function acts as a "SAVE". After making changes one wants to keep permanently, hit EXIT and ENTER simutaneously, enter into "Write" screen. Press enter a few time to go thru the screens until the end and the "executing" message will appear briefly, and that's it! Saved for good.

    Thanks. My GT-1 arrived today. My main reason for buying it is for some flexibility playing through my VOX AC-15. given the stereo capabilities, I might want to play direct to Logic. The gt-1 seems pretty easy to work with. I'll have to see how it does as an audio interface. It will have difficulty beating the latency on my RME FF!

    • @PreacherAtArrakeen
      @PreacherAtArrakeen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As an audio interface into Logic, there is too much latency, even at a 64 sample buffer. Even having the output selected as my RME lowers the latency about 1 millisecond. In any case, I have to try it again with an empty project, because there may be some other plugins causing latency. I'll check that....

    • @PreacherAtArrakeen
      @PreacherAtArrakeen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, there's a cpu hungry reverb on a send, with a few other hungry plugins here and there. When put into low latency mode in Logic, the latency is gone. Still have a little bit of a learning curve. This doesn't do dual channels like the GT-100, does it? Two amps? Doesn't really matter. Anyway, thanks for the videos! I'm sure I'll go through the lot. :-)

    • @GuitarNTabs
      @GuitarNTabs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there!
      Nice, I'm pleased to hear that the GT-1 arrived!
      If you want to play the GT-1 through the Vox amp, then make sure to set the GT-1's Output Select to Combo Amp, and make sure the GT-1's PREAMP block is turned OFF.
      Then dial in your Vox amp, and then add effects from the GT-1.
      For use in Logic, then change the Output Select to Line/Phones, and make sure the PREAMP block is now ON - since you'll need a preamp sim and cabinet emulation for goping direct, using the GT-1 as an audio interface. I've found that latency isn't really a problem with the GT-1 driver. I use Cubase myself, and that's all good.

    • @GuitarNTabs
      @GuitarNTabs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PreacherAtArrakeen - Good, I'm glad you worked it out.. I haven't had latency problems with the GT-1...
      Nope, no dual preamp channels, just one.. But, you can toggle between two preamp models, by using the Assigns.
      If you have any issues, please let me know, I'd be happy to assist. It's really important to get the GT-1 hook'd up correctly, in order to achieve the absolute best.
      Cheers.

      @@GuitarNTabs thanks. I'll be working with it more today. Managed to create and save a template patch upon which to build (using the clean twin as you suggest). I am familiar with Roland/Boss's menu M.O., so it isn't that difficult to get my head around the basics. My AC-15 is a AC-15H head/ 2 x 12" box, so it seems to work better with the stack setting, although I wonder if that isn't just for Marshalls or other similar stacks. I am not sure whether to create separate patches for the VOX and for Logic, or just create one and turn off the pre-amp when going into the VOX. In any case, you videos have been very helpful so far!
      PS, I also noticed that the patch level, at 100, is a bit anemic. I turn them up all the way, although I should probably leave some headroom?

    hi, i know you made this a few years back but i’m having trouble with my gt-1 recording. i have a chromebook, therefore i cant get the boss tone drivers or studios because they don’t support it. i’ve set the gt-1 as the input for audio in settings, but on the recording/ producing software im using it doesn’t give sound or input. i think it has something to do with not having the drivers, as i made sure for the OS to accept the gt-1, as well as the recording software.

      Hi,
      The driver for the GT-1 should automatically install, when the GT-1 is connected via USB to the PC.
      If not, then go to Boss' webpage, under the GT-1 product page, here you'll find the drivers and support tab.
      From there you should be able to get it all to work.
      Give that a go, and let me know how it goes.

      Hey there, Rick.
      Sprry for the late reply...
      In Cubase I simply create the channel tracks I need, and then start recording. I make sure that I have adjusted the GT-1's USB parameter settings, to provide me with a good, strong signal. That's really all I'm after. There's not much that I change in Cubase, really.
      Make sure that Cubase finds the driver for the GT-1 and select it.

    Greetings again! Maybe I am getting greedy now, but is there any way of recording a dry and wet signal simultaneously, while using the Boss GT 1, for reamping purposes. I believe the GT 100 has it, not sure about the GT 1. Also does the GT1 come with a bypass that I can use for recording.

      Hmm, I don't believe so... It's not a topic I've experimented with, sadly.
      I believe it has something to do with the GT-100's Effects Loop...
      The best bypass would probably be to make a patch with everything off.
      I haven't tried this, but maybe if you enter the TUNER mode, you'll be able to, but I'm not completely sure.

      Hello,
      Yes, the Boss GT-1 can be used as an Audio Interface, when connecting it via USB to your computer.
      You don't need a separate audio interface, no, like your Focusrite.
      You can use Guitar Rig 5, yes, but I don't really see why you would, to be honest..
      All the effects and preamp/speaker models are in the GT-1, and if you want to use Guitar Rig, then the overall placement of the effects would be all over the place = out of order.. It might work, but it would be really messy...
      I would stick to the GT-1 via USB and use its effects and preamp/speaker types, into your recording software.

    Dude if ur thinking about an amp say no to Marshall Dsl 40,s I have had it repaired supposedly but got it to my house no beano . Theres to many grounding issues even when u have the tubes biased if I can ever get it playing again I got it way before I got the GT-1. You dont need a tube amp for crying out loud lol

      Haha, perhaps a little off-topic, but alright 😉 Thanks for the heads-up.
      I've actually only heard good things about the DSL40, but haven't tried out one myself...
      Nope, you only need the equipment that's right for you.
      All the best, Scott!
