I was searching for a different "Hawaiian Lullaby" song (by a composer with the last name of Sergeant) that I sang over 50 years ago. I stumbled upon this beautiful song. It was exquisitely performed vocally and instrumentally. The classical hula was amazing.
We remember this was Senator Akaka's favorite song. He said the phrase "flowers full of color" made him think of our islands filled with many races being blessed. To hear the Na Leo girls., because they were girls when they started out, sing these beautiful words and melody makes me weep.
It looks like it's hip movement, it's in the knees. The knees are slightly bent during hula, the hips naturally as the knees do. Hope this answers. Aloha.
