Check out the all-new attraction at Epcot, "Frozen Ever After"! That "Let it Go" sequence was incredible! It replaces the former Maelstrom attraction in Norway.

This is an absolutely fantastic dark ride, bringing both themed objects and screens together to create a stunning experience! The animatronics are awesome and I'm generally very impressed with the overall ride!

Malfunction on opening day. Animatronic was fine and ready to be seen by the public, just happened to have a small hiccup on that day.
Too bad that Olaf wasn't moving at the beginning because that is one of the best Animatronics in the whole ride, and also Anna's mouth was frozen (no pun intended) when they are singing a version of "For the First Time in Forever." 😒
Kiristoff's mouth was also frozen, so I think that was intentional.

The animatronics are complex, and in a rushed attempt to get the ride out sooner they failed to perform reliability tests on the AAs except for Elsa. But yeah the ride is incredible when everything is working correctly.
Thanks for the video... this ride however looks awful. It looks rushed, to put out, it's clear many of the AA's were not working at all, however Elsa looked fantastic, probably because they worked the hardest on her. The exciting drops that came with Maelstrom are now just... there, they don't further the plot of the ride, nor does the ride try to show off the real Norway in any way. Should have stayed Maelstrom and maybe overlayed a few characters or music onto it.
About the animatronics working it could just be that its because of it being the first day
It's not their first day lol they've been testing this ride for weeks and my friend got evaced on the Olaf scene a week ago. Impressive AAs but still having problems.
Maelstrom will always be remembered as a classic. However, it too was rushed. The inclines are important because we're going up the mountain to visit Elsa, then down the mountain back in Arendalle. This ride is pretty incredible. I just hope we don't lose touch of what Epcot is really about.

+John Michael They would test it these past few weeks Off and On. This case being that its the opening day, it's on nonstop. It can put stress on the systems.
Aside from the glitches with some of the animatronics it looks great. The Elsa part was mind blowing.
I appreciate all the new technology/animatronics that they have used, even with some of the glitches and malfunctioning. However, I feel like the story is just all over the place (I don't even feel there's a story line at all), like they added let it go just for the sake of adding it and I don't feel like the scenes flow together well to create a new story?
It's supposed to be a retelling sort of from the characters perspectives :) Thats why Anna and Kristoff are singing First time in forever :)
I completely agree with you. I almost said this myself.
It's basically just a short summary of the movie and remakes of the same annoying songs... IMO it sucks compared to the original (Maelstrom).
+Mikihara Regardless, I am very interested on how life-like audio animatronics are made.
The faces are actually projected from the inside of the face, a good example would be the headless hat ghost in Haunted Mansion, or the bride in the very same bride, this makes the animatronic have less fiddly bits in the face, giving more room for better lip sync, and also be able to focus on motors for the limbs :) you can check out a lot of this up by looking for imagineering blogs/websites :)
When Olaf is working he's great, hopefully he doesn't turn into disco olaf.

The ride itself is amazing with the special effects, the animatronics, the boats going every which way, it's awesome! However, the story itself is everywhere and it feels like it's really compacted. It doesn't give me chills like other rides do.

It would be perfect in Fantasyland! Tokyo is addind Arrendelle as a new port for Disney Sea. No doubt they're going to trump this. Miceage once mentioned a rumor of adding a Frozen ride to Fantasyland, but haven't mentioned it since.

Dang!!! Those animatronics are so beautifully made the movements are smooth as heck. I didn't have very high hopes when it started out with and Olaf with voice over and no moving lips like Peter Pan but wow. The imagineers do it again. The line that long was expected...
The story flow of the attraction is a bit odd, but the animatronics and effects look great!

I just went on the ride today and I can tell that they improved a LOT. Like the animatronics, THEY ARE ACTUALLY WORKING! Also the drop at the end I got WET

I gotta say... This is the most amazing ride I've ever seen. but, Maelstrom was good. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's Wonderful.and when this came along, it's like a combination of color...well..a bit. sure some of the animatronics (Olaf and Kristoff) don't move at all. but, I bet that all the people who went there had a great time. I would surely hope that one day I will go on this beautiful masterpiece of a ride.

I'm actually a little disappointed about this, I was expecting more. Maybe its better in person but, The drops seem so out of place! all they do is sing and then u drop for no reason, theres no peril or anything, it just happens! Unless Elsa is trying to torment us? Maybe I lost some context clues but I just don't get the story here. I'll reserve judgement until I visit whenever that may be. Its either World or Land each year now and its hard to pick but I wanted to absorb as much 60 anniversary as I can in Cali first

Adam Jon Well I'm happy there is still a water based ride as it's becoming very monochromatic having everything be dark ride dark ride dark ride all the time and whinnie the pooh with its fake water but to me here it looks like they just mismatched a bunch of stuff to a ride that was CLEARLY made for something else. To ME it just seems like they said "oh people will love it because it has all the songs and the characters saying their quotes again and again and they lack imagination so they don't need a story."
I do recall Epcot used to trust it's visitors IQ to understand complex ideas like desert farming and rotating space colonies but now they insult out intelligence with things like this and the imagination institute.

Thank you for sharing this! I assumed that Marshmallow would be the mean version and thought other things would be scarier, so now I feel more confident that my little one will not be terrified by it! It is a little bit frantic from scene to scene perhaps, but no intentionally frightening moments.

The Elsa animatronic is so fluent and alive! Imagineers have really brought the Disneyland and Walt Disney world experience to a whole new level!

It's really interesting to see how they fit this over the old track. I can picture certain elements of the old ride on top of the new ride. I'll see it myself in about a month!

So... they sacrificed the Maelstrom for this screen-fest?! The only good thing about this is how well done the animatronics were made. I'm sorry to say, but the Maelstrom was a thousand times better than this! I think it would be better off in New Fantasyland or in Hollywood Studios, it does not belong in World Showcase! It should be the Norway Pavillion, not the Frozen Pavillion! 😠
Actually, that's a very good point about the Little Mermaid ride. Why does it even exists? If the Frozen ride replaced it, I'm pretty sure everybody would've been fine with that.
+Nicholas Leavitt the little mermaid ride (along with Peter Pan) is my favorite ride overall, so yes, there would be someone who definitely wouldn't be fine with it getting replaced with frozen. As much as I loved maelstrom, if I had to choose between it and the little mermaid ride, I would choose mermaid for sure.

It'd be weird to have a Frozen ride with an Ariel meet n greet built into the the side with a nautical themed snack shack across the way though. We should just be glad that a Sleeping Beauty birthday card boutique never made it into new Fantasyland
Nicholas Leavitt I'm with you too! I really enjoy most Disney rides but the Mermaid ride was a complete bore- even though the animatronics were very good too. But, at least it had a coherent story to it unlike Frozen Ever After, which just has random scenes and some of its songs and nothing else.
At first I was super bummed that Epcot was taking out Maelstrom, but now I'm pleasantly surprised how well everything worked out. Disney did a really good job! Plus they kept the part where the boat goes backwards, so that makes it even better! 😁

I was joking originally, guys, but I hear you. Maelstrom was one of the most atmospheric rides in WDW. Although this ride looks technically sound, it doesn't come close.

I miss the Maelstrom. I wish they would have either updated the old ride or made a completely different track for the Frozen replacement. It feels like they were confined by the old tracks and getting the ride out before the Frozen hype died even more than it already has. I do agree that the animatronics and backgrounds look nice, but I would have preferred this ride to be in Fantasyland. After all, Arendelle is not Norway. As someone with Norwegian roots, seeing a super cool cultural ride replaced with something popular makes me incredibly sad.

Finally, I thought I was the only one who would have rather kept the ride as it was. This movie came out two years ago, I honestly don't understand why it is still a big enough deal to totally change a great ride, and the area around it.
I liked The Maelstrom very much, but this new Frozen ride looks great. However this new Frozen ride looks like it is more of a Magic Kingdom kind of ride to me.

This ride is less epic. There isn't the scary hill I liked and they turned the scary backwards part into a let it go music video. You know what? This ride looks awful.

Unfortunately, it looks like all the technical issues weren't fixed during this run. Other videos do show a fully-working ride, but none are this clear (so far).
I've ridden maelstrom so much, as I watch this, I can picture every part of the old ride. It's not bad for what it is. Can't wait to ride this in about 4 years for the queue to die down.

At first I was against this ride being made because the Maelstrom was more historical and went with the Norway theme. But holy crap they actually did a good job with this and I actually like what they did with it! The three headed troll, when I was younger, used to scare me. Now the only thing that can scare me is my ears bleeding from let it go! (And I do mean that in a good way.)
Sad that Maelstrom is gone, but this looks cool. Was just there in May, and I wish I could have seen this in person! The AAs are really impressive. I was blown away by enchanted tales with Belle, lol. The new tech here, there, and at the dwarves coaster is pretty cool.
Missing old Maelstrom... But nice ride as only Disney can do... Only thing that needed some fix, was Olaf at the beginning, as it's mouth didn't moved with the audio cue.

Did that smaller firework in the center of the screen at around the 4:37-38 mark become a hidden mickey for a moment there? Most other videos showing the ride don't show that part of the screen while that portion of music is playing, so I can't double check, but it kinda seems like it :)
Wish I could've been there to experience it in person. It would have been the ultimate birthday present. Oh well, I'm going in two years once I can afford it. Can't wait!

the part where the boat falls back after seeing Elsa used to be the trolls (or whatever they were, I was too young to remember) that yelled "disappear! disappear!" I hated that part as kid and my parents always made me go on it with them lol.

I didn't understand the story.
Almost all of the rides in the Disney parks have a story like: Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, Snow White, Peter Pan, most of them are clear, but this one isn't.
It feels like a sequel to the movie, but that wouldn't explain the "Let it go" scene. I understand that it's what a lot of kids like, i just don't get how it contributed to the story or how it made sense. Just popular demand i guess.

Looks to me like they did a good job on this. I was there (salaried CM, Senior Marketing Photographer) when Maelstrom/Norway opened way back when. So I am very familiar with the ride and old content. The basic ride has not changed AT ALL i see, just the show has changed. I was at Epcot yesterday afternoon, but the wait line was too long, so I passed it by. Thanks for the video. At least I have some idea of the new show content. One of these days I will take the new ride in.
Maelstrom was a very short ride and this was only about 5 min plus I noticed two issues already. I would not wait 300 minutes for this.

I wonder if for the Let it go scene there is going to be a Magic effect coming out of Elsa's hands, because I noticed how reflection projections of Elsa show snow magic coming from her hands. So I am curious about if the magic effect for Animatronic Elsa isn't working yet, or if the decided to scrap the effect altogether.
Years ago the first time I went to Epcot I was surprised to find that each country did NOT have a ride of some kind. They need to keep going! China = Mulan ride, France = Ratatouille ride, England = Mary Poppins ride, Canada = Brother Bear ride, etc...

No, because it is a new Disney ride. New rides get crazy wait times always.
When the Mine Train was new, the average stand-by was 60-70 minutes. Part of it is definitely because it's new, but it's more so because it's Frozen.
Never ever ever would I wait 5 hours for that. MAYBE 1/2 hour.
This is what's wrong with disney lines. I can go to my amusement park any day and get on any ride in less than 30 minutes.
I just went to Disney California Adventure on Wednesday and rode the BRAND NEW Soarin Around the World in less than 30 minutes with no FastPass and no Single Rider line. There is nothing wrong with "Disney lines".
