Portmeirion & The "Curse" Of The Prisoner

Portmeirion is most famous as the setting for cult TV series, The Prisoner, but the fact that it became known as 'the village', led to difficulties with the productions that followed.

I was 10 years old and my Dad used to let me stop up till 10pm to watch it when it first was aired . The Prisoner became my moral and life long compass to which I refer to even today more than ever . I visited Portmerion last week and found my youth again . A moment of clarity if you will ! I was also most pleasantly surprised by how much of the Prisoner itself is apparent in all the signage , the colours and the purposful intent to make Portmerion , indeed , the village itself ...from which there is no escape in ones mind . I've been a Prisoner fan since its debut in the US in 1968. I plan to visit "The Village" when I visit UK. Great documentary! Thanks and be seeing you 👌🇬🇧🇺🇸

Portmeirion ''is'' The Prisoner in my mind. It beggars belief that that any film company since would try and use it. Still, people have short memory spans these days and I suppose the younger generations have never even heard of The Prisoner which is a shame.

Yes,most of the younger folks are blissfully ignorant and content to live in their village being controlled by big brother.

One show that did manage to film there was Andrew Marshall's sitcom 2Point4 Children for the 1995 episode Seven Dials. Though it was only "pretending" to be Portmeirion itself.

Yes! A very funny episode, and completely weird as well. It helped that they were sending up the Prisoner as well.

The Prisoner is forever best British tv series , it become a cult phenomena which is why my channel is based on it. Very interesting and well made points , Portmeirion as a place in its own right could be said too be over looked because of McGoohan's creation. Danger Man mostly unknown despite some episodes being far better than The Prisoner itself.
Lastly doesn't this chap need a beard trim at least, unkempt facial hair is not a good look despite what owners say.
