Thank you for taking the time to tell us about different types of insulation, my husband put off part of our build due to my health issues but I'm still kicking, stay safe my friend
I had to rewatch this one to talk with a person at work that was complaining about how cold their back doors were . They put a pillow. But it smelled moldy in a week. So I am telling them how you did it . You have a great happy new year. May 2020 be good to and your friends.
I was thinking I would put an upstyle rain guard above the doors just in case there was any leakage from the gasket in the doors. What are your thoughts?
Speaking of keeping the materials on the rear doors light, how much weight do you think a single door can hold without causing troubles? People use to mount spare tires directly on their doors or a/c units, but I wonder if the vans of new can handle this weight without causing undue stress. It would be nice to mount a diesel heater on the inside of the rear door and a diesel tank on the outside keeping everything in close proximity.
You'll get condensation until it's sealed unless you have air flowing through while you're in it. But with the insulation you are using, mold should not be a problem, will it?
Great job. Can I ask why the ply didn't go to the edge of the frame? You've done more insulation than I have on rear doors but you have much harder winters. Even though you insulate, you must heat and ventilate to reduce condensation
If you could go back in time and decide to do spray foam insulation instead, would you? Dislcaimer: that's the only decision point you could change and you wouldn't have any memory of the future.
Why not buy a van with no rear or side windows. I am shoping for a ford van and have found very few without rear an side windows but the Dodge dealers commonly have hi top vans without rear or side windows. Your viedos are wounderful you have surpassed cheaprvliving by a long way.
Great job on insulating the doors... I just this last week came up with stretching an insulated outdoor (camping) blanket across all my door openings... I will still be able to take them down and enjoy the views when the weather permits...
What you should do is go south for a warm dry place. Reinstall your insulation and then seal everything over with plastic film so moist air is keep permanently away from the metal parts of you home.

You can tell you're doing it for yourself, since it's so well done! A labour of love. :)

Thanks Larry. Be well my friend.
You take your time and do a great job .
I'm trying! ☺
4:49. Ya I get tons on condensation from this wave3, makes me think I really want to trial the diesel heater. Or use both
Best video on door insulation i have seen. How do they sit when closed? Gap between the wood on each door or no?
There is small gap on the bottom rubber where the doors meet. Not good.
Without a vapour barrier warm air will have got behind the loose sections
Would like to hear your thoughts on products like lizard skin as an initial insulation layer.
Do you have a link?

On the front doors... sure. They do impair sightinelines somewhat though.
Seal that up on a dry day, I used cheapo mylar drop cloth from Depot and 77 spray. Then "fahgitaboutit". I got a wave3 cuz of you, thanks.
Nice, thorough job. Your ventilation should take care of invasive moisture once the insulation is buttoned up.
Thanks Scott ☺

I'm not sure but I would be cautious.
That sounds like a really good idea 💡
Possibly a Jerry can on the outside the door 🚪the exhaust might be a bit of a issue 🤔

Hopefully not ☺
Dang man. You should have used a magnetic cover for the windows. So you could take them off if you ever wanted more sunlight and a view from the van
Nah... I want 100% privacy and insulation.

The cedar trim will be cut to fit where the edge of the plywood ends.
@@Torin_by_the_Ocean okay. That looks like a difficult job. Great to progress as winter gets closer.
Not hard just time consuming. ☺
'tis the time to get ready for the long winter. I just insulated my water lines today. I think I'm 90% ready to be cozy and warm.
Awesome. Say hi to Carolyn for me. 😆
@@Torin_by_the_Ocean Ha!
Get Carolyn to come heat your plumbing
I reccomend rocker guard or spray bedliner. I sprayed rocker guard on my vans walls and it prevents condensation. Checkout my vids bro!
That stuff has high VOCs. Something I'm avoiding. ☺
If you could go back in time and decide to do spray foam insulation instead, would you? Dislcaimer: that's the only decision point you could change and you wouldn't have any memory of the future.
Probably not. However, it would save months of work. I'm just way too picky.☺
Vapor barrier? See you in April.
Keep in touch. ☺

Couldn't find a used Transit at a decent price with no windows. Thanks for the kind words. ☺
Paint it black and forget about the trim pcs... No reason for the extra weight...

The weight is minimal. I plan to be in this van a long time. Trying to make it look decent ☺
Hey Tim, just a shout out, cheers on the coffee, be well out there, tc
Nice job
I have four daughters. But mine are older. How does yours even know what “video tape” is, dude? Hahaha
No idea... maybe her older brother? ☺

No time but thanks ☺
