Im here doing research. I just read about a guy from Guyana getting caught at JFK Airport trying to smuggle 26 finches hidden inside hair rollers 😆 Now I know why!!
I came to this video because I saw an article today about a man who tried to smuggle 35 finches into the US. I thought that was interesting, so I searched ‘finch singing competition.’ Worth it!
As a kid growing up in Guyana I caught, owned, and sold many cage birds. Saturday morning was the day to clean cages, wash out cages, sprinkle the birds, etc. I thought all of this was really cool. What I didn't appreciate as a kid was the many deaths associated with the catching and owning of cage birds. For instance, many wild birds refuse to eat after being put into a tiny cage. Sadly, I accepted this as par for the course. Today, I think owning cage birds is a terrible cultural practice. If it continues, it needs to be regulated.
WHERE ARE THE PET STORES? These Finches are not endangered in the Caribbean and South America but if this hobby continues in NY it will force illegal traders to smuggle them into USA and create a problem for these finches in the wild. In NYC…breeders are breeding Maccas and African Greys parrots so why no NY breeders are not using the best singers to breed these singing finches so local New Yorkers don’t have to smuggle these finches and damage these population in the wild?
@@kridanina so what about all the wild animals they have in the zoo don't they need their freedom to be in the wild as well what about the parrot ,macaws, ect we choose them as our pets they get attached to us
@@shanilram3179 i had an uncle in brazil. he lived his life fot this kind of birds. he was lazy men. he used to catch them from their freedom, habitat , just for his personal ego and pleasure. if You are a really MEN, you would not depend from a tiny little animal's life.
@@kridanina I get the point that you are trying to make but consider this they will not live more than 2 to 3 years in the wild reason hawks and animals preys on them If they were u would have gotten many more black birds than brown birds in the wild u hardly see any whenever u on hiking or any adventure 95 % brown u will come across we have them as our pets we put alot of interest and time in to keeping them healthy and safe
Talk about not being illegal. On this day there was a finding at JFK airport with Finch birds found in hair rollers, going to queens New York for underground chirping competions.
@@Xxyyxx-gc9kq How am I seeing a report about this exact story TODAY April 28, 2021 but his comment is from two years ago, and yours is from one year ago? Did this happen multiple times or did they just keep updating the article?
@@pl0shiee it has happened multiple times LOL u can make money smuggling them in... and if u get caught it usually is only a few hundred dollars of a fine... better than smuggling in drugs 🤣 no jail time and if you succeed you make a couple grand
Those birds need to live and fly outside in nature, in sky, to have a home in trees, woods, to have a wild life, a family, not to live in cages. Why these guys don't lock themselves in cages, just with food and water, and to start a competition "who screams louder" ? Many poachers/trafficants catch wild birds from equatorial/tropical woods, and many birds die in airplanes and cars until some birds survive to arrive to their cage.
hey whats sup bro i was wondering where i can get a fire red from im in Brooklyn also please if u can help me out im Guyanese too and I always wanted one since i left guyana

If you loved the birds you wouldn't put them in cages. This is the sickest thing a human being can do... put a creature of flight in a cage. I used to be a bird man myself... from Guyana.... but then I realized how sick this so called hobby is. Grown men... Jesus!!!

Thre is a bird shop on atlantic avanue 113-13
Ive seen one of these guys driving around with the cage hanging from the rear view mirror. So cool
This is such a cool and unique hobby!!
As long they are well taking care of they could live as long 15 to 20 years some even more don't think they will survive that long in the wild .
they are in prison for 15-20 years, no parol . they would come to your house, if ones have feeder outside. NOT CRUELTY

Caging birds should become illegal.
Birds have to fly
Let the birds free, we need these birds let free in NYC.
they'll not survive

Hey I would like to buy a fire red bird
How about building bigger cages for those birds or free those poor animals, let them fly free in their native land!!!
