This type of curry in Tamil is called " Usili "
It's mostly done in marriages
It will be good with Goru Chikkudukaya too in place of French beans.
Just wanted to add that , my mother used to shape the chana dal batter like wada and steam them in pressure cooker.
Later she would crumble them once cold and take a pan, first add mustard , curry leaves etc and now lightly fry this chana dal crumble in oil , once its light golden she would add the beans and cover and cook for 5 minutes.
