It's been a year since that comment was posted and this still gives me chills to think about. When you take into consideration the raw potential each character has, especially wizards, quotes and lines like these are absolutely chilling and earth shattering.
And I love it, I love reading those kinds of lines in books and short stories online because it really, just gives you only a tiny glimpse of what this character is capable of. It's both exciting and horrifying and I love every second of it.

@@ZamonVA Its very possible he has to watch the line he walks before Caleb falls the wayside like Raistlin before him. Liam would have too much fun falling into that archetype if events play out darker in the parties future. (Though I think its safe to say they passed the threshold for that particular worry)

Liam's is a fine line to walk XD
I love how Liam and Travis become thier roles, to the point that differentiating the player from the character is crazy difficult.
I still remember how Laura and Travis would talk about how while playing Grog, Travis displayed many Grog-isms in real life as well
@@dualwieldroxas358 i'm not sure on the total accuracy of this, but i've heard liam's been going through some stuff in the past, so it's not out of the realms of possibility that he's using caleb as a way to explore this, hence all the caleb-isms and the being totally in character 80% of the time
Liam also made an offhand remark(probably as a joke) that Caleb collects cat figurines. So I like to imagine the desk in his room has carefully placed tiny cats.

You know, I've been meaning to make a short film for some time, and while the pandemic ruined my chances to do it now, I'll probably do it in the near future. Caleb's story seems the perfect tale.
I mean, its not silent per say, but if you haven't watched Electrospectrum's "Would that I", its a great little music video with cosplay of the whole m9, would definitely recommend!

I feel like Caleb will end up being the most powerful member of the party by a long stretch. He's already their nuke-in-a-box, and unless Fjord fully embraces Uk'otoa and the possible gifts it could bestow upon him, I can't see anyone truly matching Caleb in power. A part of me wonders if he'll turn at some point. If his quest for power for the sake of redemption will lead him down a whole new path of damnation once it's done.

@@GuitarrAssassin exactly. And if this whole ordeal with Nott and Trent goes the way I think it will, Caleb might break under the pressure. I can almost assure you, either way we will be getting a sobbing Caleb followed by an air shattering scream, and a burst of power. I'm willing to bet he won't be able to contain his power, and will obtain several skills in wild magic. World changing, unbreakable power, entirely on the loose. I also see Beau, Jester, or Fjord getting a skill like "Wish".

You can feel Caleb's inner screaming, pain, and determination. The piano seems to represent what should have been a simple life, as the song progresses and builds, it brings in the confusion, pain, and the realization of what he's done, what his urgent need and will to fix it.
This is brilliant.

The potential power that Caleb Widogast wields is unfathomable, and unbelievable. His capabilities are limitless, and he seems to represent the true definition of what a wizard in an adventuring party truly truly is. A beautifully constructed, intricately designed glass cannon of limitless destructive, and transformative power.

Just PHB I think. I know PHB Conjuration wizard can be super useful, just make items whenever you need them, but I lack the creativity to use that to maximum effect. Plus I just like the idea of playing a wizard who's not very offensive. Haven't actually made the character, mind you, just have him in the back of my mind.
At first this feels like you're depicting something soft and small like a spark with that piano. Then when the strings hit at about midway, that spark ignites into a raging whirlwind of an inferno. Fire really, really does suit Caleb well. Warm to his friends, dealing burns to his enemies, and demanding a very cautious respect from everyone and everything. He's a torches' guidance when facing the unknown, and a beacon that brings everything together. It's no longer coincidence that he came upon that dodecahedron...

Its funny because everyone thinks Jester is the glue in the party, but I don't think that's true anymore. He is far more prevalent as a leader and as a member of the Nine now than before, and I think he keeps everyone together now.

I wonder... If caleb overcame his past and became one with the power of fire for the sake of using that power to help others, would that song be his second theme?
I wonder in part because both your song and Just Another Hero share a small handful of basic song pieces. Completely different songs, but that one similarity is enough to draw me to such a thought.
If Caleb both overcame the scars of the flame, as well as taking on its power entirely so that he might become the champion he may have once wished to be at some point... Would the sequel song perhaps indeed be Just Another Hero?

From all of the fanmade songs made for Caleb, I think yours is the most fitting for his character. You really portray his inner conflict with his past, his suffering, his sadness but also his anger.
In addition to that I really think your piece is the smoothest audio-wise. There are no disruptive notes, no parts that are weird to listen to.
It felt like I was sucked into his story, into his mind and for that I really admire you.

I love how this song starts quiet, almost reserved before it begins slowly building up as it becomes increasingly dramatic and epic.
Not sure if this was intentional but it almost feels like the class progression, as wizards are quite unassuming until they start to get powerful.
Suits Caleb so well, especially with how the rest of the Nein keep mentioning how they all see Caleb will one day be something spectacular.
I think that Caleb has a potential to catalyse the greatest of endings to the story of The Mighty Nein. No matter what will it be, I belive it will end with Caleb. And I can't wait to see the beauty of it
First Fjord's theme and now this. Very fitting and awesome work. I can only hope if their story plots come about Matthew asks to use you work for the most pivotal points of their personal stories.

Holy shit, this is gorgeous! It starts so soft and timid and becomes so powerful at the end, all while remaining so beautiful throughout. I hope it's a reflection of how his character arc will go. You did an amazing job!

Guarantee you his story-arc will be bitter-sweet, kinda like Scanlans regarding Vax. SPOILERS AHEAD:
Caleb will probably be stuck in a position where he can either achieve his own personal goals, or that of M9, and has to decide which is more important (See Scanlan using Counterspell at L9 v Vecna when he wanted to save that L9 to cast Wish to release Vax from his bonds to the RQ.)
The only man I’ve seen who completely embraces the fact he will become what he seeks to destroy, a man with the potential for immeasurable power and abilities to bend existence itself to his will. There is no place, no way, and no how to escape his oncoming wrath to those who have wronged him. Because he will not do it alone, he will have his friends alongside him. Those who love and care for him will support and help give him peace. Fear the man Caleb, but fear more the Mighty Nein

Honestly, this piece is amazing. I knew just how fitting Fjord's theme was, and just how well the song worked in tandem with the sea fairing Warlock. But with this? The somber intensity carried by the melody only brought out the images of Caleb's backstory. I loved this piece, and I frankly can't wait to see what else you have in store for us.

I can certainly understand being nervous about something like this. I couldn't blame you for it. Yet, even with all the nervousness, you did amazingly with this piece. I just felt the need to give feedback for I simply couldn't stop picturing how well this song matched with Caleb. I couldn't stop imagining Beau, Caleb, and Nott all sitting in that room as he told them about what happened.
All the build up, to the intensity that I couldn't put to any other moment than when he said, "And I broke." To end on the softer note, leaving a touch bit of sorrow filled determination. With the final interlude of the song, I couldn't stop myself from imagining Nott's comforting words. If it were a cinematic scene, the song would certainly end with a shot of Caleb grabbing Nott's hand as they stood side by side.
I do apologize for my ramblings, but you have given me some strong mental imagery with this song.

I LOVE how this fluxuates in tempo, seems to build on itself and then fades off! I am visualizing all that we know of Calebs backstory while listening to this and it is perfection!
Just found this song and it is amazing! You can feel Caleb in it and everything he has gone through, the power in him and his will to change for the better. This is a song for a movie!
I want Caleb to become a super powerful Arch Mage in the end of the campaign, like Yussah and Allura, and root out all the corruption and abuse from people like Trent, and start his own magic academy where the kids are treated well and can learn in a save environment ❤ I can't wait what his character arc holds for him. Definitely one of the most, if not THE most, powerful members of M9.

I love this. At the beginning it feels like that’s where he is now, then it builds up to what he can do, what he’s trying to do and what has happened- then back to to the same beginning melody as if a reminder, this is where you are now and this is what you can achieve
I've always loved characters who sought for some sort of redemption, and Caleb's on top of this list (with Accelerator a bit behind). Both characters grew stronger to take revenge against those who wronged them and to protect those who are close to them, destroying who they truly are in the process. I saw how Accelerator's story ended. And I know that Caleb will be more of a tearjerker for me.
As a fellow man seeking redemption, I really resonate with him. I hope Caleb gets what he truly wishes for in the end.
Edit: Came back here after two months, writing my own original story which may or may not be produced as a manga, and I'm shocked how this piece shaped my character. I see many parallels between him and Caleb, and I'm just astounded how I forgot this song and yet I have been affected by it without me knowing.

Damn, dude, you are SO GOOD. They fit the characters so well and they sound so fucking good. The Gift of the Sea is one of my favourite character themes ever.
Such beauty and emotion here, so many facets to this music. In the piano there's this core of composure, skill, mastery, and adept-ness. Within the thrumming cello lies the heat of flame, the madness, grief, and anger. In the choir lies an awe at the sheer power. Lastly, the xylophone tells of change, potential and unknown possibility.
How do I like this twice. This is beautifully haunting and powerful, perfect for Caleb. Well done sir

. .the symbolism of slightly monotone piano that should have been his life As an archmagus of the Empire with life planned, then the other Tones And instruments came. Representing Astrid , his parents And that evil dude who was in Zadash during episode 17-20 . Then the false Visions came as the male deep sounds And then it Broke...as He did. He realized what happened And the melody changed to epic orchestra with the male voices being his inner demons And the light female being the thought of redemption or maybe even bringing them back. At least thats how i saw it. Would You bless me with opportunity to play this as i reveal my Big secret of having Bucky/Caleb backstory but more Bucky since He has been brainwashed He Is one of the few chronomancers in the universe And He has a lovely family And He Is a lovable dad. But this still haunts him And thats why He has become chronomancer. I would be gratefull to think that i can play this with Your "blessing" if You may

I'm so upset that the algorithm has only now brought me your incredible music for these characters. My mind has melded this entire track to the fight in ep141, especially the quiet pause and dramatic swell of your track to the moment in the fight when Cad's death ward came into play. Masterfully done~.

I’m just catching up on Critical Role (I’m in the early 50’s, no spoilers), and I distinctly remember what I felt and what Caleb was feeling when he made the big reveal of his whole backstory to the group, and this evoked those exact same feelings. 10/10, I have listened to this 29 times.
I will never tire of this masterpiece, especially now that we've learned more about Caleb and who he is as a person in recent episodes after his run in with a fellow 'graduate' from his old teacher. Yeesh, and she very nearly killed him with a single attack no less. I can't begin to imagine how strong the man himself is if one of his students was able to nearly wipe Caleb out with a surprise attack with an improvised weapon no less. Still, this song will forever be a favorite Rise, and as ever, good luck to you my friend.

I think that the piano piece is what caleb's life was meant to be. But, as the song progresses the other parts arrive adn soon drown out the piano, suhc that no one would be able to tell wheat the right path is anymore.
