I agree about the cost and versatility of the sickle mower. We cut our hay with one on the farm and, even when we got a haybine, we still used it for trim work around banks and under overhangs.
Thanks, That is all we used growing up also Until I got later on in life and most likely already out of high school. we had a ford 501 and a massey ferguson 41 I believe. I know it was a real upgrade from the 501 due to it being a belt drive and not a pittman mower. I also have a case Ih 1300 which is a great sickle mower also. I got the 394 last year because like i say a friend had it and was selling it cheap anyway, and i had never ran a double action mower. What i like is having a second mower if my drum happens to break I still can just swap and cut hay, or i can use the sickle as you said to trim and maintain banks and inclines near pond
