I had a friend when I was 13, in Salem, Oregon, who’s father had a 1962 DS. We were polite juvenile delinquents and competent drivers, so we took the car out when ever his parents were out, at night of course.Even at that age I knew what a special, unique work of artist it was. The most comfortable ride to this day. The seats where perfect and my greatest joy, the inimitable, one arm, floating steering wheel. That sealed the deal, my favorite automobile, ever, period….I am 75 and have driven hundreds of thousands of miles in all kinds of conditions in every make and model , trucks, cars, tanks, you name it. The DS Citroen is the best of the best….cheers…
Arg !
My first car 🚗 in Australia was an 1962 ID19... I progressed thru to DS21 & DS23 EFIs and a new CX Prestige 2400 EFI in 1978. Totally addicted... Nothing Moves You Like a Citroen. I have owned 3 X 2CV6s from new. Rare in Australia.. Huge fun.

I have loved them since I was a kid. I have now had a GS, two Xantias and now a C5. Still unique and sad to see the demise of the Hydraulic systems that were inherent in their revolutionary design. Long live such innovative thinking which is somewhat missing in some modern designs.
Quentin my first sight of a Citroen was a light 15 of late 40s vintage, it was biege and I fell in love with the margue. To me they are quirky but at the sametime mesmerising even better still when you own a few in your life, I had the Lt 15 Slough built model then came a GS of which I owned 4 and a GSA, then an ID 19 safari, onwards to the BX 2 of those and then 2 Xantia, I am still in love so maybe one day I may chance an XM who knows
This can be a reply to all these comments... My dad bought a D Super 5 (5 speed) in 1971/72... Why not lobby Stellantis (buyer of PSA/Citroen) to introduce this retro car icon, after all the Mini was a huge success for BMW! And this car is way out on it's own, futuristic, style that totally still holds up and intrigues... They're sitting on an amazing investment and they seem to not even know it!!
Jesus, did he really have to slam the door like that @6:19? If that was my car I'd be pissed off....I recall the first time I saw a DS I was a kid of about 12, ridin in our 76 Ford Bronco Ranger (bad a** rig in its own right) with me Dad when we pulled up next to one at a red light...my Dad said it looked like "an upside down bathtub"...lol
My overall reliability of 7 DS/DSs was very good. Always had them serviced by someone who knew what they were doing. Pity it never got the Flat 6 which turned out to be heavy and underpowered.
I've got mine 1970 DS in Sep 2021 from Holland. The car is hugely popular over there, most of the owners are very cool ordinary and easy going. Not like the very typical british posh owners in this video, all acting like wankers in my opinion, ruining the point of the car.
Like he said, not many Brits bought them as they were expensive for what they were, so only 'toffs' would be seen in them. Now the DS has become a much sought after classic the world over. Great cars for sure.
As a kid back then, I always hated the looks of these cars. They looked more like a vacuum cleaner than a car. I always thought they should have a "Hoover" or "Kirby" nameplate somewhere on the body and a long hose attached to it's tailpipe!..... ;-)

I've owned my current DS since 1986, it makes me smile when small kids tug on their grown-up's sleeve pointing in amazement as we pass.
Je suis là, en train de pleurer comme un bébé, une bière à la main, en train de me remémorer mon enfance à l'arrière de la merveilleuse DS 🥺🇨🇵
La bière est un outil fiable lorsque le psychisme a besoin de consolation

I'm glad to see this video back online. Willson describes this amazing car with words and images that live up to its mystique.
Quentin Wilson is an excellent broadcaster and writer, I miss seeing him on TV.
Wow! Has to be the finest tribute to the work of engineering art. Ljk Setright was a great aficionado.
A dream car! AND when Top Gear was a programme you could watch!

Does the C5 have a hydraulic system?
I've been out priced on buying one!
Born in 1972 I've always wanted one..
Dream car for me.
Best car ever made.
Most engineered car ever. Citroen we world leaders then. Still loved my dads Ds

I had an XM which I liked well enough, but much preferred my C6 which was a wonderful car.
Quentin Willson gives a much classier review of the gorgeous "DS" than Top Gear ever could.
This is Top Gear Gold!
the most mass produced concept car ever
nothing like it before or since
We must not forget that the DS also existed as a longer ambulance version.

A car that elicits a very unusual physical response ..... A drool!
A one-off, very-French, elegant, unique, out-of-this world and beautiful!💐
Quel plaisir.... Merci !
Ir made, launched today it would be designated as revolutionary, aerodynamic, gorgeous, unique, futuristic, avant-garde, sexy...
Nice,nice, very nice, for ever!
Perfect review of the perfect car with perfect music by the perfect 70's pop geniuses.
Ha! Is the music from "emmanuelle" or "histoire d'o " ? either way I think it's appropriate for such a sexy car
It is from the movie Bilitis.
_I guess you guys aren't ready for that, yet. But your kids are gonna love it._
Growing up the minister at my church drove one. I guess that's where the collection plate money went
The convertible French car is called the Decapitable? I'm dead!
Non! Decapotable
😂😂
A well preserved DS costs £5000 , if only
€15k to €25k for a really good one in top apec like a DS23 injection PALLAS.
And for a Chapron cabriolat it's a cool €100K.

The massive advanced porche
A revolutionary car - except for the engine and overall reliability. At least until rather late in its production.
My overall reliability of 7 DS/DSs was very good.

Blimey!
6:50 that kind of jazz music is a crime against humanity
French running art alongside Bugatti Royale
❤😎😻👍
Dhe Best car for meny year.. So much in advance..
It is more than a car, it is a way of life, a statement.
It was a beautiful car know doubt. But why don’t they build it again?

perhaps most of the easy going and cool citroen ds owners refrain from posting about their cars.
Like he said, not many Brits bought them as they were expensive for what they were, so only 'toffs' would be seen in them. Now the DS has become a much sought after classic the world over. Great cars for sure.
If British Steel&French, and may be help from US, we would have a Super car.
2:51 ……pest alert
