I'm excited to seeing the new scale. I've been tinkering with my own where I assign a number on quality and a letter on value/desire to own. There's far too many people who saw a good bourbon is a 6-8. A good bourbon is a 5. Like I would totally take that home. I would enjoy it. It is good. But I'm not going to brag about it.
I've never understood why Angel's Envy prices all of their products so high. I was gifted their cask strength, and it's a delicious bourbon with a beautiful display box. But I would never pay MSRP for it when I could get 5 bottles of Russell's reserve instead.
I want to hear about the new and improved rating system before I ask you to keep your current rating system. FYI, Jason C. was my fav cus we have a very similar flavor profile but despite my flavor profile not on point with yours, your critiques are clear, honest and appreciated like Jason C., difference is you make me smile and I really need that at the end of my day. Thank you and keep us laughing and smiling along with your tasting opinions.
I really like Angel's Envy rye whiskey aged in rum barrels. That said l don't just have "a sweet tooth" but at least 5 of them. That stuff tastes like your dipping molasses cookies in maple syrup...heaven, l always give my non whiskey drinking a small pour as a after dinner drink and they love it.. . That said, l did like the Sagamore rye aged in rum barrels more...can l stay?
how do you know and remember so much a about Ice Cider? lol love your gig with that. I happened to pick one up on my fathers day bourbon trail trip. Just haven't tried it. thanks for sharing and cheers.

I started taking a sip of bourbon when I started watching this and then I got sidetracked and couldn’t remember if I had taken the sip and then it happened again and again and again. Then I couldn’t remember if I watched the video so I had to start that over and the cycle continued until….well…..schlammered
Angels really need to be more transparent with their products. I still think they are putting additives in their rye. Its the only one i know of that doesnt say straight and it tastes so much sweeter than every other rum finished rye.

1-7 scale, whole numbers only. Regrettably I wrote a term paper in college (roughly 250 respondents) that there’s an inherent bias amongst Americans to grade above 5 as “average”. Most likely due to a 75% being average in our schools grading scale. Then I played beer-die and got shlammered.
I vote No New Grading System, I like this system because it's only about what's in the bottle. You want a value scale? Take the Porter grade x10, and divide by rounded dollars ($64.99->$65). Anything over 1 is good, anything over 2 is a homerun (i.e., 1792, Eagle Rare, Redwood Empire). Tough to buy 1 Weller FP when you could get 10 Redwood Empires if you consider value...
Angels Envy rum finished rye is my favorite rye!! I humbly have to disagree with you, Matt. Not a huge fan of rye though, also don't like the reg Angels Envy.
To be honest, these finished whiskies are getting ridiculous these days. Too much money for something that hides the true flavor of bourbon. Distilleries are incentivized to put out sub par product at above par prices because we are all suckers.
That’s not controversial the real bourbon drinkers agree it’s way overpriced and overrated. Their cask strength is good but not worth the 200 price tag

I had it blind and thought it was some sort of maple syrup spirit. Just awful and, I agree, seems too sweet to not be flavored.
