@@matthewokner8860 That is true. However, some of the most prominent and important players on that team, and in that game, were from Mass. Craig with his standout performance in goal, and Eruzione, the captain, with the game winning goal.

      Matthew,
There were several players who turned pro before their NCAA eligibility were up or went Junior route and were already pro players. These players would have been on the 1980 US Olympic Team.
      G - Steve Baker (MA)
      D - Rod Langway (MA)
      Gord Roberts (MI)
      Richie Dunn (MA)
      F - Joe Mullen (NY)
      Tom Gorence (MN)
      Mike McDougal (MI)
Also don't forget Ralph Cox was injured and that was why he was cut and Mark Wells was on the team.
So in retrospect, this was arguably the best of the talent pool of NCAA eligible player pool after 1978-79 season assuming everyone went the NCAA route and rosters were 22 not 20.
      Pretty stupid rosters were 20
      instead of 22 or 23.
      G Baker-Craig
      D Langway - Morrow
      Roberts - Dunn
      O'Callahan - Ramsey
      Baker
      C-Johnson-Pavelich-Christian-Broten
      W- Mullen Christoff-Gorence-Silk-
      McClanahan-Cox-McDougal-Nilan
      Strobel
So you now have 9 Minnesota players, 8 Massachusetts players
      and 3 from Michigan.

      Dave,
There maybe were three players not named who possibly should have been there and that was Ralph Cox, George Hughes and Tim Harrer and Harrer was another UMinnesota guy.
Hughes would have replaced Suter. Cox would have replaced
Wells with Strobel moving to center and Cox in Strobel's RW spot.
Cox was cut because of injury
and ultimately was why Wells was on the team.
