- Note: Lyrics included below. From Wikipedia: "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" is a song originally performed in 1968 and released in 1969 by Jackie DeShannon, who composed it with her brother, Randy Myers, and Jimmy Holiday. In the USA, it was DeShannon's highest-charting hit, reaching #4 on the Hot 100 and #2 on the Adult Contemporary charts. In late 1969, the song reached number one on South Africa's hit parade. The song rivaled the success of her signature song, "What the World Needs Now is Love". My apologies for the blur in the lower half of the video, I had to remove a obtrusive time code that distracted greatly from the video.
Lyrics:
Put A Little Love In Your Heart (DeShannon/Holiday/Myers - Imperial/EMI Music)
Think of your fellow man
Lend him a helping hand
Put a little love in your heart
You see it's getting late
Oh, please don't hesitate
Put a little love in your heart
And the world will be a better place
And the world will be a better place
For you and me
You just wait and see
Another day goes by
Still the children cry
Put a little love in your heart
If you want the world to know
We won't let hatred grow
Put a little love in your heart
And the world (and the world) will be a better place
All the world (all the world) will be a better place
For you (for you)
And me (and me)
You just wait (just wait)
And see, wait and see
Take a good look around
And if you're looking down
Put a little love in your heart
I hope when you decide
Kindness will be your guide
Put a little love in your heart
And the world (and the world) will be a better place
And the world (and the world) will be a better place
For you (for you)
And me (and me)
You just wait (just wait)
And see
People now, put a little love in your heart
Each and every day
Put a little love in your heart
There's no other way
Put a little love in your heart
It's up to you
Put a little love in your heart
Come on and put a little love in your heart...
This should be played on every radio station everywhere today. We need it !
Get Jesus first and the love and peace will come. No Jesus, no love, no peace. Know Jesus, know love, know peace. Try as you might, it’s impossible without him.
First time heard it today on the radio,l agree.
Our country and the world needs this song more than ever
More true than in 1969
Thank you for your service, SGT Martinez. RIP.
Aug 3, 2021: I dedicate this to the memory of my first boyfriend and true love of my life. *Sgt Manuel R. Martinez, USMC, ABQ NM. Manuel, 23, was killed in an automobile accident in Aug 1975, when he rolled his new 240Z Datsun south of Santa Fe. He often referred to this song before enlisting in the Marine Corps. He graduated from West Mesa High School in 1970, where he participated in track and field. (He was also a gifted carpenter and welder.) Manuel had a shy grin and was kind, affectionate, gentle and hard-working.
I am sorry to read this story about the loss of your first boyfriend in 1975. It sounds like he was a great guy. RIP Manuel.
Enjoy the Music, Good night friends

We need to make this our mantra today. Selfishness and greed have taken over and we need people who care about others. God help us put a little love in our hearts.

The world is a better place because of this song.
My Mama bought this record for me in 1969, when I was 12!!! I sang it ALL the time! And now?!?!? I still sing it and LOVE IT at age 64!!!!! Oh, those were such great days!!!
I envy everyone who has been there. Sometimes when I listen to 60s music I just cry for not having been there. Or maybe I was and miss it.
I was 13.Still love this at 65! And world really needs this now.

Unfortunately, there will always be Wars, as there is always evil, right alongside the good. But may there be less of them in this world. 🌍🕊️💙

They don't make music like this anymore.
My 18 year old grand daughter did a stage performance with other class mates 6 or 7 years ago with this song playing, and I was very proud of her.
Good deal, great song. She has great taste in music.
Oh ... those days when music picked you up and sent you on a natural high !
so today's music is usually dark and full of hatred
Love her...beautiful song

@@russgrunert3955 You are so right friend. It's very sad to listen to what they consider talent today, it doesn't take any talent to become famous today's artist don't even know the definition of what actual talent looks and sounds like ? ? unfortunately there's so much technology that it doesn't take anything except for the person the advertisers choose to put their microphones in front of ? it's beyond sad except for its the truth. From my mouth to God's ears many of these elites couldn't carrie a turn without the technology that's being used to make them sound good. I can say that with total complete honesty because i have had the opportunity to witness 1st hand of the lack of talent without the equipment? im sorry an not to call anyone out except for an example of no talent artist was Adele , who pretended to be so sad for her fans when she waited for just hours before she was supposed to play in Las Vegas ? and canceled claiming that the show wasn't ready ? news flash sweetie you are the show ? i believe her fans would have just appreciated her on the stage just singing playing her Guitar, only of course that's not what happened ? no she used a lame excuse that her fans obviously excepted about the show not being ready and even though they received a refund or tickets for when she does get her act together ? there so many who are still out all the money they spent for traveling hotels ect, of course Adele was paid regardless of weather or not she performed because she has major contracts nevermind attorneys who do nothing else except for collect her money. I just don't understand why Americans, today are willing to continue to just settle for the absolute worst of everything and then call it great? you go back in time when hollywood was paid peanuts and had to bust their humps to make it in show business, nevermind they had to be great and have real talent ? because they certainly didn't have any of the technology that's around today, yet they were humble kind Loving caring individuals who actually cared about Americans as well as America, as a whole. Nevermind how much they did for other countries who were far less fortunate ? you don't see that type of Generosity today in the world of hollywood elites sure you see some of the elites doing lots of Publicity driven charities as in look at me? It's really is the definition of true travesty's i can't speak for anyone else only i certainly can see the difference.
Music still does that, grandpa 👍
I was 13 and used to go to this clothing shop called Ivey's Stage Door. It was trendy Juniors sized clothing and they had a free juke box for you to play songs while shopping. I used to play this song over and over lost in the feeling I was her singing...
I forgot that until today ...❤
Beautiful, Classic and Timeless Song and Video! Excellent Vocalization by the beautiful, and extremely talented singer, dancer, songwriter and performer Jacke Deshannon! Fantastic musicians and backup vocals!
July 1969 I remember first hearing it on the radio. It's a message that sorely needs to be heeded now.
Seeing her perform this timeless classic makes me melt and get teary eyed.

In the light of what is happening in our country today.this song and it's message is needed now..more than ever!!
Just heard the news this week. RIP to Jackie's brother Randy James Myers who came up with the opening riff and cowrote the lyrics. He was a huge force in Jackie's music. 🎸 ❤️
One of my favorites by Jackie! I have this song on a vinyl 45 record. Love her voice!!!❤️❤️❤️
I have that 45 too 👍
I reflect on Jackie's songs to comfort me in the age of division & polarization in this nation. School shootings happening often & world peril . Thank you God for using Jackie as your instrument to spread love & peace.
I love Jackie Deshannon!
This great performance by the beautiful and the very talented singer, songwriter and person Jackie Deshannon is a classic.! Jackie Deshannon co-wrote this song with her brother! I have always loved Jackie Deshanon! Thank you for posting sharing this wonderful video!
I remember as a kid hearing this song and loved it. So many others back in the late 60s early 70s dear to my heart growing up in the 70s. If you missed 60s and 70s you missed everything.
One of my most heart felt pieces of all time. Seriously, Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!
I agree...I just heard Lulu sing it and it does not FEEL the same....I love the sadness and feel to this gem and cannot think that anyone can do it better...
Sadness?!? It is a totally upbeat song.
Hi friend!
Were you born in 60? I was born in 59! June✌🏻
Willie Horstmann This song is so sincere. I just put it up on my wall because I feel we don’t have love, like we did in years past.
But we certainly do seem to have a lot of hate😢
ABSOLUTELY 💯
Still the best version with the best groove.
This woman was the total package.
My god, what a gift it was to be able to grow up to Jackie DeShannon's music.
"When we turn to one another for counsel we reduce the number of our enemies."
Khalil Gibran January 6, 1883 - April 10, 1931
This song had been on my brain for the last 2 days - I can't get rid of it. What a track!
It's a shame the rest of the world has memory loss!!!
I remember this song , and didn't realize how beautiful she was.
So glad I grew up in the 60's. ❤️✌️
Beautiful song by a lovely and talented artist!
AMAZING SONG !!!!!
The great Jackie De Shannon! Beautiful and talented .
I am so sorry for your loss. He had good taste in music. I was 8 years old during summer of 1969 when this was released and as young as I was I liked this ballad.
Yeah, this is another Great Song that we need to hear more of Today!!! Right On!
Has to be the best song ever written, and sung by the greatest voice
I woke up with this song on my mind, definitely a gift from God. Thank you Yahuah ❤️
Rare video gem of Jackie de Shannon, singer and original songwriter of this great 69 hit. Saw her do this also on AB with Dick Clark. Easy listening comfort music, radio candy. Danceable too. Great way to end the turbulent 60' s. And so inspirational for the future. Jackie was then a tv media favorite, and a known songwriter. Great effort. Thanks, Jackie & crew. Vive les pop rock, ballad & retro freaks ....
What happened to music? People used to really feel this way. Sad.
I'm a bit panicked and freaked out... something like "lyrics" "truth and honesty" "rebellion" "humanity" might be lost from mainstream music.
There are still several of us out there keeping the fire going. I'm doing something over on my Twitter Turf now...

Democrats happened. They took over the music industry and like everything else they touch, they destroyed it.
Georgie Thumbs yes us Democrats are bigots you know. The Republicans certainly aren’t
😱😱😱😱😱
What is happenning to our world? Well, exactly what the Bible has foretold would happen before our civilization will be swept away and Gods kingdom will replace our crazy leaders. Daniel 2:41-44 is a key scripture (yes verse 43 is about the US) Matthew chapter 24 explains moore
Need more songs like this one
When I got back to school for my senior year in 69, this inspirational song was number 4 on the charts
Such a beautiful and wonderful song, my 18year old grand daughter did a school stage performance 6 years ago with other class mates, I was very proud of her.
Jackie put love in all our hearts thanks Jackie
Out of all the remakes from other singers Jackie DeShannon still
sings it better
With the violence and injustice happening in Ferguson and throughout the world these lyrics and this song is an antidote. So important for us to LIVE this song. Thanks to Jackie and Randy and Jimmy!
A philosophy all should follow ❤
The time is now! Kindness must be our guide
Loved this song, but never bought Jackie DeShannon's music. I should have. She was a good influence with this song and her song "What the World Needs Now is Love Sweet Love." She set a good tone in the 1960s-1970s with her songs about love.
I remember this song.... I was in the Glenn Home for Children, my Big Sister Cheryl Llyod and I was in her car and sang it together
💕Such a beautiful song and singer💕
My mom would sing and hum it often as she'd be making dinner for our family of 8❣
So long ago, yet feels like yesterday😔🙂.
That was some shining love right there Mary! Hang on to the memories.
Dieses Lied hat mich während meiner Bundeswehrzeit 1969/1970 begleitet und aufgebaut. "Glück ab" Jackie.

I want to go back to the 60s! And I'm saying that having been born in the year 1980!
I never knew who sang this song before What a beautiful lady !
Masterpiece
Great so beautiful the kind of beauty that will never wash away❤
HB ..! I clearly remember that sound as a kid. It still rings home with me today even more so because my empathy is with the Lord. Now I want to study this song. I believe what makes this song so great is she sings and wrote it from her heart. Yes, no doubt. That was a cool through back. Ty; blessings. (I just started dreaming about those days, I want to go back).
This is what we need right now in the USA.
Beautifully done Jackie & Happy Birthday..❤

Another dreamer. Been waiting nigh on 50 years now. I guess it will never happen on this earth.
When the world was a a real place when boys were men and girls were women. Classy and raw talented
This original version of a numerously covered song reached number 1# in Apartheid South Africa in 1969.🤔😂 They could not have been listening to the word's of this meaningful song. Love this original version, also Al Green and Anne Lennox 1988 cover version 🤗
We sure could use some of this in our lives.
Love this song Sorry for your loss
That's exactly what some stations did back in those days. I remember it!
Beautiful....Inside and out. Wonderful music has slipped away from us....and that is a tragedy.
