Damn right! William Friedkin has directed two of the great American films of all time. The French Connection was his breakthrough. The EXORCIST is his masterpiece.
It was actually Enrique Bravo's father who filmed the Cuban revolution. Enrique and his son Ricky Jr. were then the camera operators for the Miami Vice seasons 1 and 2.
He got fired because of Dr Doolittle and Star! Two major big budgeted musical flops. The French Connection probably wasn’t even on Daryle Zanuck’s radar but the old man figured anything his son did was gonna suck despite the success of Planet of The Apes. The lesson is, never work for your parents😂

The studio head getting fired for green lighting the film is so short sighted. Especially considering it's subsequent Oscars and legacy

Being fired by your own dad has a funny component, though. Also, comedy = tragedy + time.
It's funny because the movie business is full of stuff like that, even worse.
