Ive just brought a piano to start learning, gospel, neo soul, rnb & jazz. What would you advise to do for a complete beginner? E.g. practice scales, buy good piano book, watch load of videos like this etc?
Piano theory books are the best place to start, once you've developed a practice routine then you add standard chords used in all music e.g. Nashville Number System. Next is decide on which style of gospel music and era. Gospel music has a borrowed style build upon spiritual, hymns and anthems mixed with jazz progressions. This channel has all these styles and contemporary videos which can service your needs. When you are ready go into the "Viewer Requests" where there are over 400 videos covering many styles of gospel music primarily for piano. If you join my FREE Patreon site you can download my 2011 Church Musician Workbook which has my suggested piano theory, chords, practice techniques and full chord reference charts to keep you busy for years.......Enjoy the journey!
