I literally just gave a friend of mine a purchased copy of the self titled SEA cd a week ago...man, y'all would kill it in the metal industry right now. I believe it.
Saw this guy live back in like 09 in San Francisco and just remember the two hi hat warm ups during sound check. I looked at my buddy and said something like this is probably one of the best drummers. Still inspiring me today. So underrated.
@@TravisOrbin A Day To Remember, Emerosa, The Devil Wears Prada, Sky Eats Airplane. Live at Slims when it was still a sweet venue! Those were good times. Stoked to see more playthroughs.
Spencer brought me to SEA and I loved this entire album most likely my most streamed Spotify. Maybe one day they could make something! That would so fucking gooooood haha. Great drumming too, leaves me so inspired.
I feel like I'm reliving my childhood seeing you do more SEA playalongs. What a great New Year gift! I was talking to you about it on Twitter on the way back from my New Year's party, haha.
Glad you still kept in that sexy fill at 3:03 buy my favorite part was 1:37 which made my day and rest of the year, thanks for being so awesome Travis! :)
Dude. You are too damn good. Even from your first "Numbers" playthrough, when you were already undeniably insane at playing drums, I can see improvment. I dont even know how its possible that you could have improved from whhere you were, but I feel like you've done it.
That bit at 1:02 ... I always liked how it faded into even singles :( Awesome and as always, great sounding kit. The stuff between your RH and LF is just pure technique. SEA are how i found you. They fit your playing as well as Pete Petersons stuff does.
No worries man :) I'd encourage you to check out the full lesson if you can afford to; lots of cool tips on how to prepare for sessions and gigs and just general practice tips really.
He's a session drummer so he's played for a lot of bands on albums. However, he used to be in Periphery, is currently involved in Sky Eats Airplane and Of Legends (but I think they're both on hiatus), toured with Crown Jewel Defense and performed with Darkest Hour at the California Metalfest.
I still use the Black X here and there, it just depends on the snare, music and overall tone that I'm seeking to capture. CS is my go-to head though, of course.
"We are still very much on hiatus." Well that's better than being broken up, I suppose. I really wish you guys would start making music again, I still have hope.
Thanks! Probably just the felt beaters; you have a lot more control over the amount of punchiness the EQ can accentuate, and there's more low end from the start. I always use felt when recording at Oceanic because Taylor greatly prefers it.
Hey Travis, I've been struggling to set up a click for Numbers in Logic for well over a year now. What a severe first world problem it is to have to practice without a click haha. Little did I know that you posted a transcription+time signatures in this playthrough! I never got to see you with SEA in Toronto but if you geniuses could one day consider getting back together, if only for a few shows, it'd make my life.
They're Hammers actually, which are slightly thicker and longer. I transitioned from Mags to Hammers early last year; prior to that, I used Mangini's sig sticks for several years. I recommend using those on the kit before 'jumping in the deep end' with Mags/Hammers. No problems, but I practice on budget cymbals and beaten heads and save the nice stuff for sessions, gigs, etc.
This song sounds great! I love all the alternating foot patterns as well as the crisp sound you China, what kind is it? Keep up the amazing work man, and keep inspiring young drummers like me and many others to get better
If you check out his lesson on rehearsal techniques he practices with a variety of cheaper cymbals and worn drum heads to save his nicer gear for recording.
Much respect, Travis! You're a solid drummer all around, and the way you approach playing the drums is really funny and inspiring. :) Ahem...Now for the #realtalk, any tips on growing your hair out to the length you have it?
I think you're all sleeping on the ridiculousness that is the ostanato alternating hand foot chic patern. That little snippet has to be the most efficient way I've ever seen any double limb patern split. That quasi-open stance is real.
To this day, there is still no cover of this song. Modern day Neil Peart. Crazy thing is this isn't even close to the hardest thing I've seen you play.
Hey Travis, a few days ago I got a cable hat for my right foot (inspired by your dual-hat playing) and was wondering if you had any tips or exercises for getting used to using right-foot hats with left-foot bass; my main issues at the moment are opening the hats at the right time, and then playing the bass drum after (such as when opening the hats on beat 4 and closing them & playing the bass drum on beat 1 of the next bar), particularly with power behind it.
Just curious. As far as the parts at 0:39 and 1:41. I feel like I'm hearing more high-hat notes than what what you're playing. Did you add them post video? But then again.. maybe my mind is playing tricks on me. You're a phenomenal drummer. Wish I had half of your talent :)
A crappy pacific, and an 8x14 tama artwood (it came on the artwood). Both of those sounded bad with it. I may break it out again next time i overhaul my kit, as I'm much better at getting good sounds out of things now :D
I noticed that you drum with Magnums, thats pretty siick. I used those when I would want to build chops for marching band, looved those sticks. Always thought that they would tear thru cymbals though so thats why i've been trying to 'slim down' with what stick I use. Are they any probs you've had with using marching sticks? If you tell me they're aren't, then hell, I'll join you in the move with using marching sticks on kit. lol
What snare are you trying to get a good sound out of? I put it on my 5.5" deep birch snare, and it rang for days, it sucked. But then I put it on my 6" deep maple stave (1/2" thick snare walls) with a diecast hoop and it sounded much better, and had that perfect balance of life and dryness. As travis said it depends on the snare, I wouldnt put it on a metal snare, you need something naturally dry.
Hey Travis, do you have any exercises for that linear (I think it's linear) groove at the very beginning? I've been trying to look around for lesson books or videos that cover patterns like that but to no avail. Everything I've come across seems a pretty basic.
Hey Travis! I saw that you are using Pearl Demons. Did you try Axis' pedals before? If so, can you give few different point that you like or don't like about both of them? Thanks!
My metronome controls how hot the sun is.
one of the best songs ever made ever
imagine if they made numbers 2020
I vote for Numbers 2023
1:37 that was so personal to me :) I shall keep that in my heart forever
The way you split your hi-hat and that seamless snare hand switching blows my mind. I'm convinced you have a brain for each of your limbs.

That was my first 'real-deal' tour. Cheers!

Yes!! This is one of my favourite SEA tunes and, of course, your playing is out of this world. Good to see some new material from you, Travis!
Spencer brought me to SEA and I loved this entire album most likely my most streamed Spotify. Maybe one day they could make something! That would so fucking gooooood haha. Great drumming too, leaves me so inspired.
i swear, no matter how many vids i think i've watched there's always some hidden gem in your channel, i love it!
I feel like I'm reliving my childhood seeing you do more SEA playalongs. What a great New Year gift! I was talking to you about it on Twitter on the way back from my New Year's party, haha.
so glad you did a re-up of this. this is my favorite video on your channel
Glad you still kept in that sexy fill at 3:03 buy my favorite part was 1:37 which made my day and rest of the year, thanks for being so awesome Travis! :)
dude your drums are just tuned to perfection, love it
Miss you guys
This is awesome! You really tell how how much you've evolved as a player; these parts seem to barely challenge you at this point :)

Travis, this is outrageous - sick playing!
Superb sound quality. Love the tone of your drums...
That's a nice way to start off the year! Thanks for this man!
You are without any doubt my idol! Wish could take long distance lesson with you
I truly miss SEA as well.
I was stoked about SEA. I saw them perform 5 or 6 times once with you.
No worries man :) I'd encourage you to check out the full lesson if you can afford to; lots of cool tips on how to prepare for sessions and gigs and just general practice tips really.

I Love your videos. I`m Brazilian, Good Job man... You are a great drummer!!!
=)
you are an inspiration to me, such a fluid drummer.
Crazy foot work! Nicely done.
I was kinda expecting a Killtrox video, you know, for new year's n stuff :( but hey a new Orbinator video is always inspiring to watch!
I was considering it, but opportunities just keep arising! You'll know more in the coming months.
Your videos are always so ridiculous man. Props, again!
No, just something that found its way atop my kick, been there for years, heh. On the bottom it says, "ALL NEW MATERIALS". Ring a bell? hehe
I love the classic T Orbin material sprinkled with some modern T Orbin style.
I still use the Black X here and there, it just depends on the snare, music and overall tone that I'm seeking to capture. CS is my go-to head though, of course.
Travis , the best! , I really weird " Sky Eats Airplane " , was a awesome band , with great emotional charge like no other band .
YESSS waited all night for this lol
Sounds awesome, cant wait to find out more!

getting into this one, haha! well played!
And you brought the spider back
0:37 is just bonkers lmao. What's it like to be this beastly?!
The CS always gets it done. i also like the ambassador. Of course though, it depends on what snare/style is being played
Awesome as always.. Happy new yr bro.
Obrigado!

Incredible.
DAMN IT TRAVIS YOUVE DONE IT AGAIN.
I've a little setup at home. I'm rockin' 50s.
They're Hammers actually, which are slightly thicker and longer. I transitioned from Mags to Hammers early last year; prior to that, I used Mangini's sig sticks for several years. you should convince zack to do a guitar playthrough if you guys still keep in touch haha. this song is amazing
superbe vidéo ...
Area Fifty Done? Please?....I'll cry if you do it....
Ah, that makes a lot of sense! Thanks dude.
I always wonder... any story behind the spider?
oh, yeah. Nice catch!
This song sounds great! I love all the alternating foot patterns as well as the crisp sound you China, what kind is it?
Keep up the amazing work man, and keep inspiring young drummers like me and many others to get better
I still have been unable to find drums that sound better than this.
I need more endorsements/company aid for that to materialize.
You have a new camera, don't? It looks realy nice.
I love the way you do ghost notes :)
If you check out his lesson on rehearsal techniques he practices with a variety of cheaper cymbals and worn drum heads to save his nicer gear for recording.

0:37 .....16th notes one hand and other hi hat clutch. freakin genius

hey i know some of those words
It could also be that the sound it is designed for, is not the sound you like. That is always a possibility, keep that in mind
Thank you! Surely, what is your username?
footcam!!
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH
Meinl Coming soon?
I literally still can't figure out how you play hand to foot double time hi hat while still playing the normal beat. Stuff of the drum gods.
To this day, there is still no cover of this song. Modern day Neil Peart. Crazy thing is this isn't even close to the hardest thing I've seen you play.
Check out Anders Meinhardt, he uses that hand to foot technique a lot in the context of drum and bass music. Really cool to watch
I see a Meinl cymbal, beautiful ^^
Travis!! Can you tell me currently what sky eats airplane is up to? I really hope you and lee and whoever has something in the works for SEA.
Great drumming and song!
And I find this video to be very inspiring.
Also, could I get the approval for my account on your forum? :)
From the "side" view used throughout the video, you can see a meinl bag (with a cymbal inside?) on the far wall. What's up with that???
duuuuude... how do you get that snare to sound like that? is f*ckin mindblowing!!
37 seconds dude. Owning that doubled up hi hat beat except moving the left foot in 8 notes and the right hand quarter notes?
RIP skyeatsairplane
I thought hiatus meant the chance of getting back together, i heard you say before it was on permanent hiatus (thus a breakup)
YES
Hey Travis, a few days ago I got a cable hat for my right foot (inspired by your dual-hat playing) and was wondering if you had any tips or exercises for getting used to using right-foot hats with left-foot bass; my main issues at the moment are opening the hats at the right time, and then playing the bass drum after (such as when opening the hats on beat 4 and closing them & playing the bass drum on beat 1 of the next bar), particularly with power behind it.
So whats going on with Sky Eats Airplane, Are you guys going to start making music and tour again?
So SEA is only on hiatus? Does that mean that you guys are gonna come back someday? I really miss your guys's music!
Awesome drumming man! Is that a little microphone on the cymbal to the far left there? In that case, what's the name of it? Sounds good!
what do you think of that black X head in the background? i could never get a good tone out of it
This was in one take?
Just wondering how you got the bass drum to sound so awesome in this video? It's the best sounding out of all your videos IMHO.

How about Recording what its like in a full day as Travis Orbin ?
How do you get the foot camera angle simultaneously with a normal camera angle?
Show off!
Haha AWESOME!
If you tell me they're aren't, then hell, I'll join you in the move with using marching sticks on kit. lol
Are you reading a score to this music? That is totally sick mate
yes, nice! but eh, what is the Meinl cymbal doing there?
wow your bass drum is so kick ass
Hah! 'Tis back for good.

Hey Travis!
I saw that you are using Pearl Demons. Did you try Axis' pedals before? If so, can you give few different point that you like or don't like about both of them?
Thanks!
