I think it actually takes a lot more bravery to adopt and care for an elderly animal or one with special needs that may not live long, and a special kind of wonderful to care for those animals and give them their best lives. ❤️

Not sure why this one hit me so hard. Imagine just being dropped off at a shelter because you had gotten "too old" to care about any longer. Human beings are so cruel and dogs are so amazing and forgiving. Looks like her last months (year?) may be the best of Annie's life. Thank you for doing this for a gentle soul.

That story is sweet beyond words. That poor dog looks so happy now. Kudos for all the effort! Yesterday I adopted a little guy, a 14-year-old Maltese who was left at a local shelter for some rather inexplicable reason. He can't see too well, and he can't hear too well, either, but he is full of life and full of enthusiasm. As soon as I saw his picture and his age, I decided that dog needed to get out of that shelter. Yesterday afternoon I took him for a 30-minute walk, and last night he slept like a rock on my bed. He loves the food I'm giving him, and today, while I was getting dressed, he started licking my leg. He seems very pleased to be home, and I'm thrilled to have his company.

I've adopted many senior dogs because I can't bear to see them so sad and abandoned. The love they give, their gratitude and their joy is so completely worth the inevitable heartache. Old dogs are the very best dogs. If you can, take (at least!) one home with you!

These two young women are a blessing to all those around them. I brought a senior cat w/some medical conditions that require meds daily home from the vet clinic I worked at when I retired last year. Linus has become my world. He discovered he could jump up on our king sized bed three weeks ago and spends most of his day on it when he isn't at my feet demanding in a loud voice more food or snuggles. Best decision I've made in years.

Ahh this hits me right in the feels, I have been blessed to love two senior pups, our beloved Winston and Isabelle. When Winston passed away we were heartbroken he was the most perfect gentleman pupper and then month later Isabelle popped up at Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, so we went back to Muttville, she was in such a terrible state from being a stray in San Diego deemed unadoptable puppy mill dog, she came to us as a hospice adoption and in the three years since she has blossomed into a healthy and happy pup. Adopting from Muttville Senior Dog Rescue has changed my life, senior is the new puppy, seniors rock. Thanks for loving Annie and Tippy. Thanks Geo Beats for sharing senior dog stories, because senior dogs rock.

Although it's sad to see dogs this old in the shelter, it's wonderful to hear of their happy lives now.
And while I love stories like this, dare I say that I'm a bit envious Annie and Tippy are living to 19 and 18! Three of my last four adopted dogs lived to "only" 15/16, and I wish they could've stayed w/me longer. The 4th was thought to be near-dying when I fostered him at 10, and since I was giving hospice care to the two others, I thought what's one more for the short time he may have left? Then six years later...
Anyway, they really do show us how to live everyday as if it were the last b/c their "bucket list" is, of course, ours.😉

    You two humans are AMAAZING!!!
U r 2 very special people that I wish we could clone.
I wish there were more people like you both in this world.
The senior dogs need love and support just as much as anyone and you can see what a difference that love, support and nurturing has done for Annie and Tippy.
    So special!! Xxxxxxxx

Thank you ladies, for opening your hearts to sweet Annie and Tippy and showing them the love they so deserve. It's heartbreaking that someone could drop off a 19 year old deaf furbaby at a shelter when they need you the most. You are angels for these precious babies and have already shown what love can do to extend a seniors life. Love, love, love your story and thank you for sharing and opening your hearts for these wonderfully sweet furbabies. 💞💕💝

Wow! Honestly they saved her life! She would have most likely died of loneliness and of a broken heart had she been left in the shelter. I am so glad the shelter used their better judgement and their compassion to allow her to go to a foster/adoption home to live out the last of her senior days, then months, and lets hope years now!!! Great job ladies!!! And she really does have the best doggy smile ever!!!!

A story I found (I think Readers Digest):
“Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.”
As they made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told the vet that they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, the vet felt the familiar catch in his throat as Belker‘s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that the vet wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. They all sat together for a while after Belker’s Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that dogs’ lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.”
Startled, they all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned the vet. He had never heard a more comforting explanation. He says that it changed the way he will try and live.
“People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life - like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right? Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay for as long as we do.”
    🐾♥️🐾

We need more people in the world like these incredible women! It takes a VERY strong person to not just foster but to foster an animal that you would most likely have limited time with. God bless them ☺️❤️

God bless you for doing this. I desperately want to do this but my husband absolutely refuses. He says he doesn't have the emotional strength to have a dog for a short period of time knowing that euthanasia is right around the corner. It is a huge sore point between us. These dogs DESERVE to be loved, even if it is only for a month. My next door neighbors did two hospice dogs that lasted less than a week after losing two of their elderly dogs and an elderly cat within a five month period. I love them. JUST DO IT!!

Real live angels saved this dog. Imagine being that old and just dumped. For every rotten person, there is good one. So glad Annie found hers. Her previous owners didn't deserve her.
