      Bull! He was a major league dickhead with an attitude from the beginning who got all butthurt when grandma didn't fall for his tricks and false accusations. So when she didn't do what he wanted when he was bullying her, his little Napoleon complex kicked in and he arrested her. The first officer said he smelled NO traces of alcohol. Plus he was respectful to her. That second piece of crap came up to her loaded for bear.
      Perhaps she did NOT have anyone she could call! I wouldn't in a situation like that. I'm an upper middle aged bachelor with no kids who lives alone and who's family is mostly dead now.

      @markhoffman4587 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      @@ericaknesek3266 you are absolutely right, but it is up to the officer to make these decisions. Most base those decisions on the attitude of the DUI suspect, especially when that traffic stop happens in an area with lots of serious crimes. In some cities and counties, it takes hours to book someone. The cop's concern is a potential shooting, armed robbery, kidnapping, and so on, while he or she is filling out paperwork at the jail. There is the ," Letter of the Law ", and lots of cops follow that, no matter what, and then there is the " Spirit of the Law ". An example is a homeless person stealing a warm hat, on a subzero night. We would actually buy the clothes for them whenever that happened, and that suspect had a friendly demeanor, instead of freaking out as soon as they saw us. I know it's not the same as drunk driving..it's just an example. Imagine pulling over a woman who was at home, drinking with her abusive boyfriend, and the guy starts beating on her. What if they live in a rural area, no Uber, no Taxi, and she has to drive to get out of there to save herself ? Do you arrest her too, making her situation worse than it already is ?

Mom didn't drink alcohol or do any illicit drugs. She was starting to experience one of the long term effects of lifelong Type 1 diabetes, exacerbated by inconsistent insulin self-treatment. As soon as I realized what was happening, but not before she totaled a car, I promised that I would drive her anywhere she needs to go if she'd give up her license and not replace the car. It's been 24 years since she has driven and we've gotten some good mother-son road trip time. My mother was an alcoholic and psychopathic. She mentally tortured me as a child, and I would hide in the back of her vehicle when she’d go out drinking to try and protect her still. I tried to fight many men off of her and was forced to a couch one night by grown men while they did whatever they wanted in the next room. I would sometimes drive her to work because she was still drunk. She was a teacher and I went to the same school. My entire family failed me as a child as nothing was ever done about it.
    This is worse on those kids than many can imagine.
    I ended up addicted to drugs by the age of 15. I dropped out of high school at freshman year. I decided to clean my life up and work hard. It took 15 years but I’ve completed my masters degree and in a therapist today that worlds with abused kids.

      I get a strange satisfaction from seeing drunk women drivers finally being held accountable for their actions after decades of being allowed to flirt or cry their way out of being arrested for DUI, but this is not alcohol. I think the officer's missed the signs of dementia that this woman is exhibiting. I don't know what the legal limits are on personal medical enquiries, but they should have attempted to find out what her medications were for and if she has ever been advised by a medical professional not to drive a vehicle. I could be wrong, but I think anyone working with the elderly will recognize dementia, and possibly Alzheimer's in this woman. Either way she has to be taken off the road, for her sake and others.
      For those condemning her for being "mean", imagine through no fault of your own, losing the ability to care for yourself and those around you little by little every day...losing your independence and then losing the people you love because you can't even recognize them. Sad.

She could go from quiet and not finding her words, to really angry, insulting and belligerent, then tears as she was convinced someone was trying to kill her to not knowing who I or my son was to going back to being, seemingly, completely fine. Time of day, weather and how hydrated she all played a part, but you never knew from moment to moment which version of her you were going to get. I guess all the people on here who just assume that it has to be alcohol even though the police stated they didn't see any signs are lucky they can be so judgemental as they've not had the experience of someone they love going through cognitive decline, and trust me, the level of insults and vitriol on display here is nothing.
