You may disagree with the captain but he has the best of intentions here. He orders a test when the ship is not at full readyness because when would a order come in a perfect moment? As soon as he realises one of the crew is in difficulty he cancels the test and goes to see what's going on. He is actually a good captain at heart who has his job and crew in the right space.
Regardless, no proper commanding officer or captain would initiate a drill during an actual fire on a submarine. A fire on submarine is one of the worst things that can happen and it can be catastrophic.

As much a I appreciate Denzel’s character in this movie in almost all respects, I was surprised he verbalized out loud to a subordinate enlisted man his disagreement about the Captains’s decision to run the drill, even after a serious event like a fire. You keep that inside to maintain cohesion. Maybe it was to foreshadow the much more serious disagreement they aired publicly later on?
I concur, your observation is authentic. 😆 Presumably that was a concession to drama and foreshadowing, yeah. Stoic till the last possible minute might make for an admirably accurate portrayal, but conflict with no build-up usually comes off as bad writing/acting/directing in media. Maybe they could have found a subtler way to communicate mounting friction between the Captain and XO, but it has to be comprehensible to the average (read; non-sailor) audience member.

I understand his concern about it but If this was real scenario the enemy sub does not give a shit about your fire in the galley. You let the men who can handle it do their job but you HAVE TO DO YOURS you have to be ready at all times, even when things are chaotic.. I work in a fine dining kitchen, the guests do not give a shit about you cutting your finger that is still manageable and you can still work. They are spending over $400 on entree's, tape that shit up and get the food out..

They clearly cut something from the scene. The comment about the potential for the galley fire to flare up isn't insubordinate. It's just informational. The comment to the crewmembers in the galley was inappropriate, but the captain wouldn't know about that until later (if he found out). The scene should have shown Hunter pushing his point about the missile drill being inappropriate with the galley fire. It would have added context that made the Ramsay's reaction make perfect sense. Instead, Ramsay is angry at Hunter for essentially nothing.

I have zero issue with the test right after the fire. I do believe it would have been a respectful courtesy from Captain to XO to give him a FAST heads up before making the order. But the issue I do have is when Washington’s character in a reasonable professional manner informs the captain that the fire situation is still unstable, the Captain gets all pissed off. The Captain DOESN’T want his officers to inform him of current status of safety issues? Really? I will also agree that an XO simply cannot outwardly express in front of any enlisted man that kind of disagreement with the Captain. That is worthy of reprimand. I suppose the “You were both right, and you were also both wrong” applies to far more than just the real message disagreement.

I mean in a real scenario there's nothing you want more than absolute, positive certainty that the order to end the entire world is actual valid and authentic. Having that many people verbally express their concurrence is part of making absolutely sure.
Once those missiles are launched, there is going to be devastating destruction and millions of dead people. You kinda want to be absolutely sure orders are authentic and there are no mistakes.
