  • www.documentsna... - With the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 you can now scan to a computer over Wi-Fi, but what do you do when you have more than one computer you want to scan to? This video shows you how to switch between machines.

    I know your video is 7 years old ... but it still addressed the issue better than anything on Fujitsu's site! Thanks!

    This video saved my day!
    This is exactly the way to connect the older IX500 scanner with the latest ScanSnapManager SW - in my case to directly scan into the DevonThink 3 app in my Mac.

    I called Fujitsu before purchasing this scanner to confirm that you could scan to multiple computers from the scanner via wifi. I even described the office environment and how we planned to use it as a work group scanner. I was told by Fujitsu that it would work this way without any problem. Now that I am trying to set it up I discover you have to switch the USB cable every time you want to scan to a different computer. Do not purchase this if you wish to scan to multiple computers!

      Sure, bad advice they gave you. One thing to be aware of is that fully networked doc scanners typically cost ~1000+, hence why they offer only a limited workaround here. It's rather ridiculous in this day and age, though, given even most people in households have several computers (never mind offices!), making the one-scanner-one-computer concept very old fashioned and out of date.

    Is there anything new on this since July 2013? Updates, firmware changes that would allow easy switching to different computers on a network? I'm planning on running Mac and Windows 7 systems side by side and the USB cable deal is a real weak link.

    Thanks for the video. Answered the question perfectly. It's not a simple process and I was having trouble finding the steps. Good work.

    Thanks for the video, but it confirms what I feared: can't switch wireless pairing without physical USB connection.
    Dear Fujitsu, it is not 1998 anymore. Wake up! Get your technology together!

    I wonder if it's possible to have it scan wireless to a Mac, while also connected by USB to a Windows computer, such that, which ever computer is on, will be the receiving computer of the scan?

      That is also my question in 2024.

    Great video! Solved my problem first time! Silly USB connect in order to switch it to WiFi. Kinda defeats the point, but I get the authorization approach. Ptpbhtphbphtpthbt.

    Hi Brooks, thanks for the video. Has this 'feature' now been updated as its 2017, so that you can get this to work in a more straightforward way?

    This is quite a let down on what seems to be otherwise the gold standard in scanning. (And that IS saying a LOT! Printers and scanners aren't built right 99.9% of the time). But for an expensive machine (as compared to AiOs), not being able to use multiple computers is absurd, as this machine would be most suitable for small / home offices where at least a few people would need access to it and not just one. It would still be workable if you could interchange computers wirelessly, but having to plug in the USB cable is terrible. What was Fujitsu thinking?
    Has anyone figured out a third-party solution to this? (apart from having a dedicated machine that is always on, and setting up the scansnap to scan automatically to a folder on it that is shared in the network or via dropbox etc.)

      They want you to pony up 3x more money for the true network version.
      Or get the scansnap evernote edition.

      @recrdx 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** So just to confirm, the Scansnap Evernote edition can scan to 2 different computers over wifi without having to plug in the usb?

    • @jimthing
      @jimthing 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For others reading this. I don't know about the Evernote Edition (I think Wang is saying it'd sync over Evernote, rathe than it working across more then one computer). But more importantly, one thing to note is that the Evernote Edition was diabolical (hence they soon discontinued it).

    Nice video... So basically every time I need to change the computer I will need to connect the usb cable and do the maintenance process? I guess there isn't a more automatically way to do this right?
    I have tow mac, and I need to connect the usb cable and do the maintenance process every time I need to switch between them.

      Not if you want to switch between computers for wireless scanning, but check out ScanSnap Cloud - you can now scan directly to a cloud service like Dropbox etc. without needing to go through a computer. So you could scan to Dropbox/Box/whatever and then have it sync to your computer. www.documentsnap.com/scansnap-cloud-scan-without-computer/

      Thanks for the help, but I didn't quite understand how can I change mac computer without doing the maintenance process every time I need to scan from each one using wi-fi.
      I could find the scan snap to cloud app for mac. It should be on apple store, but its not. I will get in touch with their client support team. Thanks again.

    hello i've been installing the scansnap manager but there is NO "Scansnap WIreless Setup tool" in my scansnap folder (os X mojave)

    Scansnap home is truly terrible if you want to share it in your office or household. I guess Fujitsu wants us to by one for each workstation, for something you might use rarely enough it would be reasonable to walk across your house and feed the paper in.
    To switch users you have to plug the USB into your computer, so you might as well just use it that way - carry the scanner to your computer and use it there.

  • @MikeKobb

    Given that you can readily scan to multiple iOS devices, it seems pretty likely that this is a deliberate crippling of the ScanSnap by Fujitsu. I agree with Steven Wang's comment: it's probably to try to get you to buy their much more expensive business model. Very disappointing.

    what am i doing wrong? i have 2 pc's in my office running windows 8. scansnap is connected via USB to #1, and linked via wifi to the other (#2). when i re-connect the usb to #2, the wifi scansnap logo gets the red line thru it. when the usb is not connected, i can scan thru wifi on #1. Can i not have the scansnap hooked up to #2 to scan wirelessly on #1?

    • @jimthing
      @jimthing 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree it's annoying. What many people do, is have scans go to a folder in their Dropbox account (eg. perhaps named "Scansnap (to file)" or similar), and then the scans will sync across to all machines with that Dropbox account set-up on them. So can easily be opened/filed/emailed/whatever from any machine.

    This is just messed up. This is 2014 and you need to plug in a cable to switch over. Seriously. I wish i could return the damn thing now i just found this.

    i dont see any of those connections , when i plug in via usb the snapscan is read by the computer but manager goes gray and if i try to work with it it just freezes up and says "program not responding" then a window comes up saying another device is using the scansnap however no other devices are using it ... when i go into wifi connection it does not show up by default... it says other model in the set up and it asks me for an ip address... i dont know how to find the ip address.... really frustrated with this thing. been in other offices where they worked great ... but this one is just crap
