Oh my goodness, it's a minefield isn't it, and that's why a styling consultation is a great way to go. Way back in my 30s I discovered I was indeed a rare bird - a perfectly balanced hourglass, although that didn't mean life is perfect. It never is. Am 5'1" today, having shrunk from 5'3"! I guess gravity's had an impact over 7 decades, but essentially still a petite hourglass with a clearly defined waist. Having a light spring colour palette is helpful in that low contrast dressing, avoiding large prints like the black and white dress you showcase so beautifully, oversize garments and accessories that swamp my small frame or anything that intersects me horizontally like crop pants, also help elongate. I feel I would have discovered very little of this on my own, so engaging a stylist like Sheila has been an amazing investment.
There are a lot of things to consider when dressing for your body shape and vertical measurements. You're lucky to have a well-proportioned body, that makes dressing much easier.
I have listened to many stylists BUT your style message rings true to me. Thanx so much for all your information because it's helped me be the BEST ME!
Good tips. Seems like there is a lot to know about finding out why some clothes suit me better because of the length and fit. I like the jacket length tip.
In my experience dressing my body type and observing others your points are right on. You try to cover many body types. I agree with your observations. I appreciate your study of body types and the best styles for each type. I need to put one to many stitches in each piece of clothing I have to fit my body well. I agree with you, it in all in the fit.
Excellent advice! Thanks for the wonderful examples. One thing I still struggle w/ is understanding “WHY” one sweater/coat length goes best w/ a particular outfit...🤔
Good question! I wondered if anyone would ask. There is a reason, it has to do with how the outfit is broken up with horizontal lines. Good topic for another video.
Love this information Sheila! Belts somehow never felt right for me…. Well I am a short waisted, long legged, big busted, rectangle. 🤓. Now I understand…. Going to try a slimmer belt… will see
This was interesting. I’m not sure, but I think I’m short waisted. I’m going to figure out with the head lengths. When I was young I seemed to be long waisted. But my legs never kept up to the rest of me. Maybe it’s because I have a long torso, not a long waist. I get what I should wear. But I’m not sure if I do.
Pam… I never realized I was short waisted. Then I read somewhere (??) it has something to do with the distance between bottom of ribs to top of hips. Gads, my bottom rib practically touches top of my hip. There is no space there. I also have short torso tho. So maybe you do have long torso but short distance between crest of hip and your ribs….🧐. Anyway, figuring my body type out has really helped me out personally with dressing/what looks good on me. Wishing you luck in your journey. Sheila has great insight
I am 5 ft. 3. Just a little too tall for petite sizes and too short for regular women's sizes. My arms are short so I have to turn the sleeves up to maks a cuff. I am short waisted and round shouldered and bras has to have adjustable straps because if they dont, the straps keep falling off my shoulders. I have a "pooch" tummy and flat buttocks. My legs are short and very slim and since I have gotten older they have some broken veins and I have spider veins around my ankles. I am a senior citizen living on Social Security so I cant afford any experts . Is there any help fof me?😂
Nancy, It sounds like what you need most is a tailor. It sounds like what you need most is a tailor. If I were you I would choose the pieces (10-12) I like most and like to wear and one by one, I'd them altered. Alterations don't cost a lot and after you have them altered be sure to only buy the styles you like.
Hi Barbara, that use to be me too. Maybe try watching this video again with a long mirror, sheath dress, sweaters and some belts/jewelry handy. If you try on while pausing video… you may find it makes more sense. It helped me a lot.
Thank you for your ideas Sheila...unique is great!!!xxx
Excellent and informative video, thanks Sheila. It certainly makes a difference!
You are so welcome! I'm happy it was helpful.

That's true, there's a lot to it.
Perhaps 🤔 if you demonstrated these theories one body style at a time? Hard for me to follow today! Keep going :)
I understand. I'll take that into consideration next time.
Brilliant, I've found it very very useful. Many thanks. I know my shape but this has helped me more,
Glad it helped!
I always learn so, so, so much from you, Sheila! Will definitely be implementing this style tips!
Perfect!
Very informative video. Thank you for breaking this all down. Enjoyed this video.
Thanks so much, I'm happy it was helpful.

Thank you and thanks for watching!
Such an interesting video, thank you Sheila❤

First time I saw this matter so detailed! 🥰
This was really interesting. I've never consciously thought about the vertical lines of an outfit, but I certainy will now. Thank you!
That's wonderful!

@Shiela Alley. Yes! Everything changes when you opt for pants (straight, cropped, flared) vs dresses/skirts. 🤷🏻♀️

Thank you. A slimmer belt might work. It depends on your height.
@@StylebySheila 5’5” … maybe this week will give a
thinner width a go
@@MValerie444 That's a great idea.
You obviously put a lot of thought into your videos 👍🏻
I certainly try.

A lot to learn but I get it!
That's great.
I’m short and even in petite shops, it’s not easy to find shorter tops. 🤪
Petite styles don't always work well for petites. Again, petites are all different.

A bit confusing for me, sorry x

“Dressed for my day” has a body proportion video too that might help.
@@Jacksprat265 Thank you x
How much thought do you give to how clothes suit your body proportions?
I have a hard time knowing what pants look best on me and the right color. I buy too much black. I’d like to try more neutral pants
I'm very interested by this subject. Your videos are the only ones I found on TH-cam dealing with vertical/horizontal lines. Txs !
@@cfarmer2298 That's a good start.
@@sophiehachet9574 You're welcome.
That long white sweater doesn’t do it for me! And I have several cashmere sweaters! And I love long sweaters as I am tallish. Some good hints though!
