    The presence of both Lilith and Saint Peter makes this a mixed mythology, not strictly Christian. And in Judaism, Hell is a place for the so called "purification" of souls. Charlie's worldview is more in line with Jewish mysticism than it is a Jesus allegory, so I hardly find it suprising to see that this square peg doesn't fit into the round hole.
    As one on the left hand path I also find the infantilization of Lucifer annoying, however any antagonistic depiction of him would hurt the show's writing due to the character of Alastor, who very clearly fills that ambitious and devilish role. Making the light bringer a cartoon network character was the best way to solve that problem without cutting an original and more mysterious character. It's a necessary sacrifice for the writing.

    • @HannahBanina
      @HannahBanina 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      “Cartoon Network character” is now my favorite way to describe this version of Lucifer haha
      Personally I wouldn’t really call Lucifer infantilized. He’s short because it’s ridiculous and silly to see such a trait in a character typically depicted as an imposing lord of darkness. But beyond that, he does still actively hold his own subjects in contempt for being awful people who definitely earned their place in Hell, even being reluctant to support his own daughter in order to spare her dreams from being crushed by them (and Heaven).
      Also the dude’s not above “I fucked your wife” jokes and had to be held back from utterly annihilating Adam.
      And like people have pointed out, the prologue only tells the story from Lucifer and Lilith’s perspective (even leaving out Charlie’s later claim that Lucifer allowed the Exterminations and Lute’s add-on that the Exorcists are only allowed to target Sinners; the Hellspawn are to be left alone during Extermination Day). It’s still very possible for Lucifer to be at least a little bit actually evil - he _is_ still the Sin of Pride, after all - but it holds relatively little importance in _Hazbin’s_ narrative as the series is really more about the (former) humans, and whatever Alastor’s deal is, is a much more pressing matter given he’s part of the main cast.

  • @ChaoticButterfly
    @ChaoticButterfly 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +23

    Aside from Adam and the Exorcists, how do you get that Heaven is an awful place? I mean, I don't care for the color scheme, but it seems kinda idealized, and Adam literally says that no one has a hard day, when Charlie implores for a little empathy, asking if they've ever had a drink with friends after a hard day. So, I'm confused where your interpretation of Heaven being bad, here, comes from.
    It's arguable that Pentious' sacrifice pulled Charlie out of her "good girl" reticence regarding the fight. It made her actually FIGHT.

    It worth noting that the show itself isn't done yet, 1st season yes but not the whole show. Thus not all cards were revealed yet, we don't know yet why Higher Ups of Heaven are corrupt, we don't know why Lilith is in Heaven, we don't know why Adam wasn't yet sent to Hell and most importantly, we don't yet know what is up with God in Hazbin Hotel. You see, the show still has lots and lots of questions to uncover with more seasons thus in my humble opinion it wouldn't be greate to judge the show as a whole just yet, first season yes, but not the entire show as a whole for the reasons i've mentioned. I do respect your opinion and do understand the concern from the Religious side of people though, the show is quite controversal but i just think that giving it another chance once it throws every card it has through more seasons would be a better option

    Ehh i respect the fact you took the realization the series wasnt actually finished on the chin like a man, but not recognising the flaws in such a black and white system that promises eternal salvation no matter what happens after you reach it is worrying to me. Quote all the bible verses you want, that doesnt excuse your disregard for the message that people can fuc* up and still have a shot at being redeemed through correcting themselves. Whether that redemption is in the eyes of loved ones, god, or whatever entity that decides our potential afterlife YOU have a CHOICE.
    We dont know why sir pentious ended up in hell, but after he got there he encountered someone (or really a group of people) who completely changed his worldview. So much so that he risked, and lost, his life. Why does personal development stop at the afterlife?
    Does anyone who goes to prison not deserve the chance to change their ways and turn to the straight and narrow? You commit one sin and you're destined for hell forever? The characters in hell deserve to be there, the question hasbin presents is should they get the chance to better themselves.

      If you believe in Christ, then your sins are forgiven. I'm still learning but with what I have learned so far, I have seen that most people are confused (even people who are christian) believing that being good makes you able to get a ticket for heaven is a mistake. It's through faith alone, yes good works are acknowledge and it's the right thing to do. However, we're all sinners in reality we all would deserve hell, but God offers the oppurtonity to follow him and join in heaven until the day both earth & heaven are reunited into one. Personally I see both sides of the arguement, I've watched the whole show today, I liked it yes pacing was bad, but entertaining. However there is an arguement to be made that the show is unclear on it's hierachy and it's conflicts in universe and with the audience. Me watching it made me feel conflicted as ok it seems to take certain elements but make it in way where God isn't the creator and the Angels made man? Like what is the real genesis for the story. It confuses me, ofc if they had made a God is evil story I would've left immidiatly but since they didn't it seemed ok but it also makes the story conflicting so ST Peter is a character does that mean Jesus is a character in universe? Like details like that make me want to be critical on thsoe accounts both as a christian & an audience member just watching it for fun. Maybe if they only took angels and demons as inspo but made it so eden or major events from genesis were present I would be more willing to believe it to be ok.

    Three things that would've made this show much more palatable for christians.
    1. Make the setting in the purgatory or at least at the very fringe almost separate part of hell.
    2. Make Lucifer much more grey in his morality instead of simply being depressed.
    3. Make the angels a lot more hesitant in exterminating. And see the extermination plainly as a duty rather than entertainment (except for Adam and Lute).

    • @MarkMark-lx6gl
      @MarkMark-lx6gl 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can say. Even if this show Is not a biblically accurate, its still has a Biblical and Religious references and ideas.
      1) In fact, the whole plot of the extermination is very similar to the plot of the Book of Exodus, where Pharaoh ordered the slaughter of the children of the Hebrews in order to reduce their number and avoid rebellion. A similar story is present in the New Testament with King Herod, who ordered the capture of little boys in order to find the King of Kings among them in order to get rid of him and preserve his power and throne. Sera essentially resembles Herod and Pharaoh of the Exodus, then Paradise can be considered as Egypt and Judea. And Sinners as Jews, abandoned by God for 400 years of oppression under the rule of a foreign country. Funnily enough, but in the song Hell is forever, Adam drops the phrase "An eye for an eye", which is just present in the Book of Exodus. It says, "If a man hits his male or FEMALE slave in the eye, and the eye is blinded, he must let the slave go to compensate for the eye" as Adam and Lute did to Vaggie, cut out her wings, her EYE and threw her away, releasing her from service. Just as Sir Pentious enters Heaven and becomes an Angel Cobra, when he renounced his sins and redeemed, this can be seen as a reference to how the serpent created by God devoured the serpents created by the Egyptian priests. And this is added by the theory that God himself carried Pentius directly to Heaven and near Sera and Emily.
      2) If we assume that Jesus existed in this universe, this can be understood by St. Peter, one of his Apostles and disciples, then Charlie continues his work, so to speak, but if Jesus worked exclusively with living people, then Charlie is trying to atone and make the Sinners in Hell believe. And in fact, she also has apostles, Vaggie herself, AngelDust, Alastor, Husk, Sir Pentious, Niffty and Cherry Bomb. Lucifer then can be considered as a Joseph and Lilith as a Virgin Mary, because I love to theorize that she after eating a fruit from the Tree of Knowledge become the bearer of the true pure power of good, which was partially passed on to her daughter. And if we take into account the fact that she is formally the granddaughter of God, if one still exists in the universe of this series, then he would not only be glad that such a glimpse appeared in Hell, but it is also possible that he himself contributed to her being born and helped the souls of the dead to be cleansed of sins. And just like Jesus in his ideas, Charlie also has enemies and opponents, Adam and the Exterminators themselves can be seen as Pharisees, who are kind of priests and servants of the Lord, but who are not clean, corrupt and who wanted to kill the righteous man, Jesus himself, seeing in him a threat to their power and influence. Sera can then be seen as Pontius Pilate, who conducts a trial and pronounces a sentence on the further fate of the righteous man. Emily can be considered as Mary Magdalene. And Heaven can be interpreted as the Roman Empire. And if we talk about who will become the new Judas Iscariot, then it will definitely be Alastor, who will betray Charlie and her ideas, but then, perhaps, either sacrifice himself or destroy himself, just as Judas himself, realizing what he did and that he was guilty, committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree. Even the way the Angels, and in particular the Lute, condemn Sinners and at the same time not noticing their own vices or thinking they are right, this is a living illustration of the wisdom of Jesus: "Judge not, lest you be judged."
      3) Also, the plot and characters is relatively similar to the Book of Esther, with the plot of how a female ruler from the people who are under the rule of a powerful kingdom, saves her people from destruction and extermination. Charlie and Emily herself - Queen Esther. Sinners - Jews. Angels - Persians. Sera and Lucifer - King Ahasuerus. Lilith - Queen Vashti. Adam - Haman the Agagite. Lucifer and Vaggie - Mordecai. And just as Ahasuerus is unable to revoke the order to exterminate the Jews, so he issues a new order that the latter may be resisted, and this entails battles and celebrations. The same is true in the season finale. Sinners and Cannibals, along with Charlie, Vaggie and Lucifer, give battle to the Exorcists and win not without losses, and then celebrate.
      4) And finally, the very way Charlie tries to guide Sinners to the true and righteous path, this is what many famous prophets of God did, in fact, Moses, Jonah and Elijah. And yes, Heaven can be considered as a monotheistic state, and Hell and demons as a pagan idolatrous people. As the Europeans, English, or Spaniards actually treated the native population of America, hating them largely simply for their different faith and for the color of their skin.

    I'd like to point out that in the show, we don't know if there is a god, there hasn't even been a single off handed mention of god. And no, haven is not a "bad place" in the show, it's literally where all the sinners want to go, and is referred to as "the perfect after life" and a number of characters even mention how there are no hard times, or bad days in haven. Bc you've gone into all of this with a predisposition of where you stand, in this case the view that this made up story is "bad" or "demonic" some how, it shows in how you review the whole thing, and reflects in how you've seemed to interpret certain things that aren't present in the show.

    I think the only reason Adam was in heaven is because it would look bad on the angels of the first man couldn’t even make it and I think he couldn’t. Sir pentous’s sacrifice is more of a sacrifice than Jesus’s sacrifice because pentous likely knew he would die and didn’t know he would go to heaven, even though he did where as there was no question in Jesus’s mind he would live therefore no sacrifice causvhe didn’t lose anything.

    So to you the lack of achievement takes priority over the intent behind it? The idea behind Pentious was based off the intent not the result. Also you waved over the whole otherside of the plot for episode 7 as well, clearly the walk through "cannibal town" is based off the idea no matter how disgusting we humans find an action that there is redemption that can still be found. It would seem your primary argument to the show being anti-christian is what is exactly high lighted in the show, the holier than thou beliefs that in some think they have moral superiority over others. Which is what a far over exaggerated Adam is meant to represent in my opinion. Heaven was never decided to be a "bad place" in comparison to Hell. Its very clearly intended to be the worse place then heaven which is still paradise. And you even acknowledge this idea in the previous episode. So I have no idea why you begun to assume again that heaven and god are meant to be the "evil" beings.

My guess is that god will make an appearance later on. If it were me making the show, I’d think long and hard about how god could enter with enough oomph to be notable in the show.
    The awfulness could just be an outcome of the concept of diminishing marginal returns. As more and more of even a good thing is experienced, the additional joy gets less and less until it gets more and more awful. Similarly with hell. The additional awfulness of hell gets less and less until it ceases to be awful.

      @@andrewblissett2211 I don't have to respect a system of beliefs, respect is earned, and religion should not be above criticism, I'm just tired of this Christian nonsense popping up on my TH-cam recommendeds, and it doesn't even warn me that it's a religious person complaining about it. I have ADHD, and this is my current hyper focus, so I'm looking for other fans, and randomly this stuff pops up, I'll watch it, and by the time I realise it's from a religious angle, the algorithm has already made the assumption I like it despite giving it a thumbs down, and continues to recommend me cleverly disguised religious propaganda. Oh, and atheism is an a sense of belief, atheism is as much a belief as off is a tv channel. Ultimately, hazbin hotel is catharsis, making fun of the system of belief my dad used to justify abuse that put me in the hospital
