    But when you take minoxidil it‘s temporary, because when you get off of this, the hair that you gained will fall off and takes you back to the starting point. That is the case when you have male pattern baldnis, but is it the same with TE???
    Btw. great video Doc. 😊

      @drkopelman  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You’re right that with male pattern baldness, stopping minoxidil can lead to losing the hair it helped regrow, as it needs to be used continuously to maintain results. However, with telogen effluvium (TE), which is usually a temporary shedding phase caused by stress, illness, or other triggers, minoxidil can help speed up recovery by promoting faster regrowth. Once the underlying cause of TE is resolved, the hair often regrows on its own, so long-term use of minoxidil may not always be necessary.

    Hello I'm a 40 Years old man .In 2020 I went to a cruise for 7 days , I didn't protect my scalp from the sun and it burned it was very painful. Severe sun exposure .Important to mention before the cruise my hair was perfect and healthy no shedding or thinning. Next 20 days or month it started shedding like crazy all at once . My hair started growing again but thin , weak and short. It's been 4 years I doesnt Shed anymore but it's thin and it doesn't go longer than a certain point , it's like if it was stuck not growing beyond a certain point compared to the other areas of the scalp that didn't suffer , so I can see my scalp.it's very frustrating because before that event my hair was perfect and it hasn't been recovered fully .even though I have hair it's thin after that . I'm taking oral Minoxidil ,oral Finasteride, vitamins and having mesotherapy since last week . Can I recover my density and thickness one day ?

    If i started using minoxidil as a treatment for it can i stop using it after a year ?

    • @drkopelman
      @drkopelman  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Minoxidil is a long-term treatment, and if you stop using it after a year, any hair regrowth you’ve achieved may gradually fall out, and your hair will likely return to its previous state. Minoxidil works by stimulating hair follicles, but once you stop applying it, the stimulation ceases, and hair shedding may occur.

    • @drkopelman
      @drkopelman  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      At this point you likely have chronic telogen effluvium. I would suggest doing blood work at this stage and possibly doing a biopsy to rule out any other underlying medical issues that might be at play. If you are located near New York City I would be happy to help you at our office, I also do virtual appointments. Otherwise I would recommend seeing a local dermatologist who specializes in hair loss.

    I have heard that applying minoxidil to the scalp on a person suffering from telogen effluvium can initially cause greater hair loss and, once stopped, the hair will return to its starting point. Furthermore, after a period of time, the effects of minoxidil decrease and no longer have an effect. This is true? should it therefore be applied for life?

    • @drkopelman
      @drkopelman  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes you are correct, you can have an initial shedding period where the hair that was going to fall out regardless will, and the minoxidil is just pruning your hair to allow the new hair to grow. And the other point you brought up is partially correct, the medicine will still continue to work but regardless we will continue to experience hair loss, hair loss is not completely stopped by taking medication but it does play an important role in slowing the hair loss. Hope this helps address your questions.

    • @luanap872
      @luanap872 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks a lot for the answer. Allow me to ask you two more questions: in the case of Telogen effluvium due to stress and taking medications, do you recommend continuing for life even after having found a good result or is it possible that by interrupting the treatment after all the hair has regrown, you can solve the problem completely?
      Also, is 5% always recommended for a 68 year old woman or can you start with 2%? I live in Italy, here a doctor recommended Carexidil 5% to me, I know that it also makes the hair very greasy.

    • @drkopelman
      @drkopelman  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@luanap872 5% Rogaine is what we recommend to both men and women. I would recommend continuing it. At the same time I know that applying topically everyday can be annoying, so in that case I would recommend exploring being on oral medication which is easier to take everyday. With that said treating hair loss is a life commitment, even when your hair grows back it is about maintaining it as well. As soon as you stop the medication a couple of months later your hair loss rate will continue. Medication whether topically or orally helps to slow the hair loss normal cycle.

    Hello doctor. Can I take Minoxidil with Olux and seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp? Thanks

    • @drkopelman
      @drkopelman  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's generally safe to use minoxidil and Olux (a corticosteroid foam) together if you have seborrheic dermatitis, but it's important to monitor your scalp for any signs of irritation or worsening of the condition. The corticosteroid in Olux can help manage the inflammation and itching associated with seborrheic dermatitis, while minoxidil promotes hair growth.

      @@drkopelman After hair shreds from a hair follicle, new hair grow immediately after shredding or does it take 3-4 months to restart growing hair.
      After the growth starts, how much time does it take to become visible on the scalp?

    • @drkopelman
      @drkopelman  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@plenue After a hair sheds from a follicle, a new hair begins to grow from that follicle almost immediately, though the cycle of growth can vary by individual. The time it takes for this new hair to become visible on the scalp typically ranges from a few weeks to a couple of months, depending on the person's hair growth rate and cycle. That is why I always tell patients to be conservative 6 months, but you of course could see new hair growth sooner.
