Bamboo is wonderful, also try Rayon Challis for the really colorful prints you love that are soft and natural and cool/breathable - you'll love them. Rayon Challis works for all seasons!! Love where you're going with this Steph.
I do love your vlog Stephanie- always makes me smile. Old people yell! 🤣🤣. Glad you fixed your top. The sleeve shortening made such a difference. We can’t really get double brushed poly in the UK so it’s jersey, especially bamboo or modal jersey, for me. Your kayaking video is so beautiful. I think kayaking season is over for us this year as the weather is already feeling autumnal and rainy. Have a good week my lovely 🤗
Great save on the top! Basics aren't boring - it's like rice, potatoes, bread - you have to have something to put all the toppings and seasonings on! I meant to recover my outdoor cushions this past spring, too...Yes, I've heard of the Winchester House - reminds me of my husband's mug that says "I was put on this earth to do a certain amount of work. Right now, I'm so far behind I will never die," LOL! And yes, I remember Ralph Kramden and the Honeymooners, although I think the part where he says, "To the moon, Alice!" wouldn't get filmed today - of course, she just gave him a look and that was the end of it. All my stuff is in one closet now, too, and I'm glad not to be moving things from one room to another anymore. Beautiful garden photos and thanks for taking us to the lake with you!
Stephanie I like the adjustment you made to your top. It looks much better now. 8:49 Was music to my ears. I really wish more people would learn about polyester fabric and AZO dyes. I'm thankful that I learned early on in my sewing journey that natural fibers are best. My favorite is *undyed* linen, wool and cotton knit. Since my fabric color is nonexistent, I make my garment style the focal point, so no boring styles. I also replaced all of my bed sheets/pillows/shower curtains and bath floor rugs with natural fabrics. It was an expensive transition but it was worth it.
I'm looking forward to seeing all the answers to your question about natural knits because I am interested as well. So thanks for asking. Your backyard is beautiful!
You are an inspiration! I think rust would be beautiful on you with your black in either a top or pants. Enjoy the natural fibers, I’m just learning about these things.
Great save on your top. Denim and black are my favorites. My dad loved Jackie Gleason, too. I grew up near the Windchester House. My garden is still a work in progressI love watching your channel bc I have so many things in common with you. I want to see your black dress and can't wait to see your fall wardrobe!
I think it is a growing trend to buy natural fabrics, especially in the natural living community. I have a linen obsession with button-up shirts now. I have been thrifting a lot of those shirts because it's less expensive to buy them second-hand than to buy 100% linen, and sewing them up. I really like Joann's interlock 98% cotton and 2% spandex POP kid's fabrics because they are medium thick, and they have a good recovery. Whitney from Tom Kat Stitchery is a wide apple shape too, so you would probably look good in the same patterns.
I am sewing Project Dress a Girl Around the World, only 3 dresses so far. This is a major accomplishment for me! I am recovering from a detached retina and two surgeries. I know it is not my best sewing, but a little crooked sewing or no dress! I look forward to each of your posts.
My oldest son Luke is a professional landscaper here in Nebraska . He specializes in retaining walls, ponds and drainage systems. He loves doing retaining walls, lol! He says he redoes lots of home projects gone wrong. Not saying yours is going that way! I’m getting ready to start fall sewing. I make a detailed plan, fall/winter and then spring/summer. Yes you did save your top and it’s beautiful!
lol, hubby started right out of college with landscaping. I think these projects take him back to his younger years. Like most men…he still thinks he IS that young .🤣🤣🤣 I love that you are a fellow wardrobe planner! Hugs! 🩵🩵🩵
Your top looks great now! I've never seen anything knit or stretchy out of it, but I love love LOVE linen. Or raw silk. Stupid pricey, but so nice if you can find it on sale. I went to the Winchester House when I was a kid too. I think I was 7, we were in California visiting family. No fall plan, I'm in Florida, so we get about a week of fall. I miss having seasons. And I'm here for the garden.
Hi Stephanie! You're dating yourself and I cracked up because I knew exactly what you were talking about! I love the honeymooners with Jackie Gleason and it was Alice, to the Moon!😅😅😅
Winchester house is fun. Kayaking too! we kayak on the rivers up here in Oregon. I agree about being retired and able to go places during the week when everything almost deserted-except for us retired folk! Just made the Paola Chore jacket in corduroy. Planning to make a corduroy jumper this fall.
Your minor tweaks made a major difference in your shirt! Isnt modal fantastic? Its been my favorite for years but very hard to find in fabric on the bolt. I am trying to lean in to natural fibers more now too, although I will probably never get over my DBP for winter. You look great in black. Very flattering! Give hubby an “atta boy” for all his hard work. My hubby has so many projects “started” but un finished. He claims hes waiting for fall. Thanks for the garden tour and the kayaking looks epic!!! Thanks for sharing!!❤
Yes to Modal!! So soft! And, like you, I think I will still have to have some dbp..mostly for the fun prints!! Hugs! 🩵🩵🩵 PS we take what we can get from our hubbies. lol.
Hey. I am not ready for fall! I like warm, sunny, long days and summer is never long enough for me. My sewing plans are to make a few simple jackets or cardigans for fall.
Hi Linda, I think I did in the video I made about it. It’s so simple. I always get compliments! Go to 7:10 on this video th-cam.com/video/4aG6_HCvjko/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RAATyjzEzV28wp-W
I am on a natural trend for fabric and dyes as well. The more I learn about how unhealthy polyester and synthetics are for our bodies, I’m more convinced we need to go natural. I do a lot of linen and cotton. I would love to have silk, but it’s just so expensive. And I live in Florida, so wool isn’t an option. 🤣🤷♀️
Yes!! I’ve definitely changed the way I see poly. I wish I could snap my fingers and change all my poly to natural! 😮 Luckily there are alternatives. Whew. Hugs 🩵🩵🩵
I too look for natural fabrics.. they are so costly here.. Linen is $50.00 a metre.. Craziness Your tio is too cute.. I'm sure you'll get lots of wear out of it now
I like that look on you. Great save
