    Out of all the attempts that Universal has made in bringing back the Universal Monsters, the 2010 Wolfman is the best and most respectable to the classics. The fact that it is a gothic, atmospheric HORROR film and not popcorn action movie schlock like the predecessors by Stephen Sommers alone is worth points.

      If they had done the rest in that style, it would have been great but as usual, these studio execs don’t know what the hell they’re doing.

    • @schizofrito
      @schizofrito 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      the only problem i have with the movie is the goddamn awful cgi, it would have been such a delight to see the hospital transformation in just classic make up fx, paying tribute to his own 1981 work in An American Werewolf in London. Shame the execs always butcher a genius creativity.

    • @a.j.medialover
      @a.j.medialover ปีที่แล้ว

      @@schizofrito In my opinion, I wish they just could have put more time and effort into the CGI-shots, most notably the morph scenes, like adding a few more shadows, lighting and reflections to the flesh, eyes, and fur, but seeing how the deadlines were all very tight and how the film had to be pushed forth constantly year after year, we unfortunately got the rushed results we see in the final film today.
      After all, CG:d monster transformations can honestly look really good if enough time and effort is put into them (look up Remus Lupin's werewolf morph scene from Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban, for example. That film is almost 20 years old, and a lot of the CGI still blows me away for being released in 2004.)

      @Jerrol Hale as you can hear his dialogue with a no brain producer, theres money to spend, but the producers are fixated on the action!just like Guillermo Del Toro about making Mimic!u remember that movie?filthy Harvey Weinstein came up to him and asked what the hell is that bad guy!a monster bug?he produced only comedies, action and dramas till that point, a bit later they did Phantoms a year later in 1998

    This is an extremely underrated horror film. It had all the gothic dark elements of the original Universal horror films. And DeTorro brought about the troubled angst and tortured soul that Chaney Jr displayed in the original but took it to a deeper level. And the plot twists with Hopkins' character just blew me away, I didn't see it coming. I bet if this film were to be viewed in black and white, it would still be amazing

Their bedroom was on the third floor of the townhouse we were living in, so they were upstairs watching TV in bed and I slithered up the stairs on my belly like a snake. Her bed was on a platform so it was tall. I crouched at the base and sprung up screaming rrrraaaaaaaaa. This is the perfect example of a conversation between a creative person and a non creative person. Too often movies turn to shit because of what producers want, all the while not having a creative bone in their body, they think their stupid ideas are gold. Rick Baker has reason to complain about the industry, his work speaks for itself and when you hire a person like him, you let him do what it is he's good at.

    The transformation scene rocked ... The best results in my view seem to be when practical effects and CGI are mixed with a nuanced approach ... Peter Jackson with Lord of the Rings grasped this ... and the people who worked on this movie understood it too. The scene may not be as iconic as American Werewolf in London ... but that was also 1981 .. Baker was ahead of his time. The CGI in this one wasn't perfect .. but I still really love what they did in this movie.

    In jurassic park. They used cgi for the full body of the creatures on screen. But they never used cgi for close ups. They used puppets. Thats filming at its best.

    It's such a fantastic movie!!! The Wolfman looked similar to the classic. Anthony Hopkins did an outstanding job as Sir John Talbot.
    Benicio was the perfect lead character as well.
    It's such a great cast. The gypsies were right on point. Rick Baker is a powerhouse to have in a horror movie. I'm so glad he did the movie justice with the marvellous artistry of FX makeup.
    It's amazing to watch a movie that's not heavily laden with CGI.
    🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 I have so much respect for people like Rick Baker, who turns a movie into something you want to watch more than once.
    A movie with all the right people in it makes a huge difference.
    Another great movie in my library! 😜😂
    ❤❤❤❤❤
    Much respect and admiration from a fan of yours Sir! 👌🙌❤️😊

    Wish Rick got to do more with the transformation sequence cause the biggest complaint I had with the remake was it felt way to reliant on subpar CGI

      @@FU1LMOON I mean typically it was but it hit almost the same notes that it seemed like a remake. A shitty CGI version remake that some how looked worse than the one made 20 years before it

    Benicio is fanatical about getting is roles right. During the filming of The Usual Suspects he would call Brian Singer all hours of the night whenever he had an idea about his multi-ethnic character and the background to it.

    The directors cut of the film is significantly better than the theatrical. I enjoyed the film overall, and appreciate its honoring the original.
