She wouldn't even listen to scum trash. He told his mistress countless times to stay out of his business and leave his wife alone. But she never listened. The female lead did her job teaching her son while the mistress's son was so lazy. Yet they want to call her a bad teacher and bring someone else in to teach that brat? As the female lead said. Lies. That whole family is full of lies. Which were their ultimate downfall.
Not only did they bring the mistress home and lie about it.. But in other versions of this particular drama and I believe in this one as well.. The wife explains to her maid that though her husband vowed to never take a concubine, she would not fault him if he did bring one home considering he had been away at war for 10 years.. But that just wasn't good enough for her selfish arrogant husband.. His pride couldn't accept that his wife was better than him in pretty much every way. He couldn't accept that her family name held more weight than his. He couldn't accept that it was her family that had to bail his family out of trouble and that without her the general's mansion would have seized to exist 10 years prior.. He couldn't accept that because of her families knowledgeable and scholarly background that she had connections to not only the royal family, but to scholars as well. All of these things made him envious and hateful. He hated the site and thought of his wife and hated that his family was at the mercy of her.. And because of that hate and his favor towards his idiot concubine, this idiot got his entire family killed(grandmother, concubine and son included) and he was demoted to a commoner who no one dare give a dime or a job to.. He got exactly what he deserved for being hateful instead of appreciative... Even in the end when the crown prince showed up to search the mansion we find out that the husband and his family were still unwilling to let the wife go in peace and they had planned to poison her.. Presumably with a toast of wine or later at dinner.. They were determined to kill that poor woman..
But the thing is, the mistress was supposed to be his wife. Im not sure when, but sounds like they already had a child before the marriage. It was the grandmother who wanted gains for the family and selfishly made the ML marry her. ML had no choice in the matter. It is understandable that the mistress and ML hated her even though it wasn't her fault. They should hate the grandmother instead for this decision. All the problems stemmed from the grandmother making such a selfish choice.
Hearing the words "bullying," "oppression,""suppressing, " etc., doesn't seem to describe what these villains are doing. Its more like domestic violence, or assault and battery, murderers, etc seems more like what they are doing.
I absolutely agree. The terms people often use normalized the violence, which we shouldn't keep tolerating. I am disturbed by how, in the relatively short time I've been watching these short dramas, I've become accustomed to casual violence, even on the part of so-called romantic partners. In real life, grab my neck once, and you are history.

ML doesn't look like a bad guy. So it's hard to hate him. He's being miscast in this drama. He fits more the hero or decent husband type roles. Ughh how hard it is for women in the past. Not only do they have to deal with mistresses, but also they can't just divorce at will. Damn, marriage is a lifetime sentence for them. Good thing this drama has a happy ending! 😊
Not sure if we're watching the same drama and looking at the same main ML.. This guy was definitely the right guy to play this character.. He was arrogant, pompous, aloof and unapologetic.. I think he played his villain role well. Even at times half way through the series when you wanted to forgive him and see his humanity, He reminded us over and over again that not only did he want to be rid of the FL(his wife), but also hated her to the core for no reason.. He only cared about his childhood sweetheart and his spoiled venomous son.. Even by the end of the series during the huge family meeting, he continued to lie by getting up and boldly stating that he had no intention of ever divorcing his wife or making her a concubine, which were both lies.. It seemed like every time you wanted to see his humanity in the series, he showed his true colors.. Which reminded us all that he, his mistress and their son ruthlessly murdered the wife in her first life by beating and torturing her to the point that she could no longer move her limbs and then burying her alive in a hole just outside of the capital..

But everytime there's a close-up shot of his face, i lose that momentum of hatin' on the villain. I still think he's better suited for good guy roles. And i wanna watch him in that different role.
I've seen another version of this story but here the grandmother is really the actual villian. Tho his doings aren't justified the negative ml never even wanted to marry the fl in the first place. If that vicious greedy old hag didn't force him to marry fl then none of this would have happened, the negative ml would have married the concubine as main wife led a good life leading to crown prince proposing to our fl without any obstruction and they would have been perfect.

Was a divorced woman easily remarried and accepted to them ?! But in overall this is the best version But but but Please stop making the silly rebirth stories
This Story have a lot of Versions, but this Version the FL is the Weakest among the FLs that Acted like this Story, most of the FLs they got out from the Mansion immediately, and live happily with the Prince.
That mistress is annoying. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Every time she speaks, I yell shut up. She wines too much. I really don't see what that man saw in her.
