Still one of the most creative and beautiful DnB tunes of all time. Was blessed to experience it first time round and in London. The 90's were special, wow!!
Sheer Source Direct brilliance... I went to the same secondary school as these two maestros in St. Albans...Happy, gravy, ravy daze... ah! I miss 'em!! x
The magic these guys could work with a few samples… To be honest, a lot of D&B feels cold and sterile to me, but Source Direct's work lives and breathes.
For me, this era of jungle felt like there was a human behind a yellowed CRT screen, making magic happen with a sampler, some keyboards and an 808. 1990-1998 was a time when jungle felt like where it came from. Listening to jungle just feels surreal, as everything now is about mass appeal, where profits overshadow the souls of even highly respected producers like LTJ Bukem and Peshay. So, in short, I agree.
This shit is clever stuff man. Introspective. This era was the foundation years and everyone was coming correct. Wasn't watered down or corrupted by gold diggers. About the art
This tune is just fantastic every time I listen. SD fuck mess with the listener so well by just teasing the perfect melody in and out. Just a roller where you need to be patient for those stabs to hit
They were about before 96 there is a youtube video of them & photo talking about music, their studio was in one of there parents house & they used headphones all the time.
Way to spoil and fact check an evocation in memory, of a long lost fictional scenario?!? Yes. We’ve all seen the doc. First time round. Yes we all know they were around before ‘96, they had about 20 aliases. But their maturer style by then really put them in the upper echelon. Do you really think they checked out the final cut with headphones all the time?
Listened over 1k times and it’s better every time I hear it. Those layers, those chord changes… simply brilliant.

Bought this in 1996 and have loved_ it ever since.

One of the best drum and bass tunes ever!!
This artist, the gift that keeps on giving.
Fucking untouchable. Quite possibly their best in a vast jungle of bangers

1996: Skunk appears in the U.K. Also 1996: 2 young U.K. lads hole up in their studio with monitor speakers on full for hours on end.

@@scholesysscaleschematics2445 Then why did you say 1996 in your original post you prat.
@@stevebrizzle Track release date you berk
@@scholesysscaleschematics2445 You didn't make that clear in your original post.
can anyone ID the breaks at 4:08?
4:29 sounds like the apache break, guessing they've just really filtered and chopped it loads, such a sick sound
4:08 is more bits of layered think break, shakers and "you bad.." which opens the track up at 1:20.
It’s the think break and part of the Apache layered
