This was my late mother's favorite show. She was so good at solving puzzles. She always wanted to go on this show. She said she would have smashed it. The show still airs The host Pat sayjack and Vanna white are still doing it.
Yes, this show is still on the air. They also have celebrity shows where they play for charities. When you are playing you need to remember which letters were called but are not in the puzzle. The category helps too. When you were suggesting the answer was New York State, the category was a 'thing' not a 'place'.
Leaky faucet popped into my head right away too. The guy who answered new baby buggy already chose the vowel "o". So the answer wouldn't have been New York. The Wheel of Fortune gameshow still exists.
Among the biggest game shows in US history are Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and The Price Is Right, my all time personal favorite. Last I knew it was still on and being hosted by Drew Carey. Price Is Right is the longest running game show in history.
@17:30... Wheel IS still on here in the States. I watch it with my mother every night while having dinner, and it gives us lots to talk about, and keeps her mind pretty sharp at 81yo!
Oh my gosh! Never seen an episode?? We watched this every night throughout my whole childhood, and still watch it every time we're at my parents' house (which is several times a week.) Once you've watched thousands of episodes, you kinda get a knack for it. I've solved my fair share of these puzzles with only one letter showing. My sister even got one with no letters showing yet!!
Keep in mind there are multiple puzzles per show, and the game show has been around nearly 50 years. Every random term or phrase ever uttered has been on it by now, and seldom solved as quickly as you see here - that’s why these clips are in this video.
There is a category of sorts. Notice how at the bottom of the screen at 3:57, for example, it's a Phrase. So you're only considering words that would be phrases. It always shows something like that. It may be a Phrase, Person, Thing, Place, etc.
When you were thinking it was New York State...you knew it couldn't be York or State, because R, S, and T were all picked, so those letters would have been turned around. So it really helps to narrow down what the words could possibly be because of what you know didn't get shown. Hopefully that made some sense for you two!
Wheel of Fortune is in its 42nd season hosted by Pat Sajak and Vanna White. Pat holds the record for hosting a game show. Some of the common categories are: People (most likely a profession) Proper Names Places Things What Are You Wearing What Are You Doing
"New York" wasn't a possibility because the vowel "o" was not shown to be used when selected by the contestant. "Wheel Of Fortune" is both old and new. It has been on TV continuously since 1975.
To get a chance to win the million, you have to go through so many obstacles. First, land on the space and guess a correct letter. Then win that round. Then you have to go the rest of the show without hitting one bankrupt and win the game. Then on the bonus round, you have to spin the prize wheel and hope it lands on the million dollar space, 1 in I believe 22 chance, then solve the puzzle.
What I find amazing is how long this show has been on the air. It debuted in January 1975, but the current presenters, Pat Sajak and Vanna White, have been on it since the fall of 1982.
It debuted on network television in 1975 with Chuck Woolery. Vanna and Pat hosted the daytime show but have been the only presenters of the syndicated version (sold to individual channels in each market) since its launch.
FYI, the $1 million is not easy to win, First, the contestant has to land on the million dollar wedge on the wheel in the main game, it's split into 3 parts so you have to land right in the center (the other 2 parts are bankrupts). Second, if you hit a bankrupt during the game thereafter you lose it. Third, you have to win the game. Fourth, in the bonus round the contestant spins a 24 wedge wheel to determine their grand prize, normally the biggest prize is $100,000 but if you carry the $1 million in, the $100,000 is replaced with $1 million. Fifth, solve the bonus puzzle.
For the Wacky Neighbor example, you also have to look at the letters already turned around, the R was already there, so, that eliminates things like Worst or Weird and any other with an R and this is what the players (like these) use to run through the other possible combinations.
Wheel Of Fortune is still on. The show's first episode was in January of 1975. Pat Sajak (pronounced SAY-jack) has been the shows hosting the show since 1982. It had a daytime airing, and a nighttime airing. His co-host has been Vanna White since 1982.
3:10 - He knew it wasn't worst because there was no R, S, or T in the first word. For the final puzzle you get R, S, T, L, N, and E as free letters. If any of them are up there you know it. So that first word couldn't have had any of those letters, or any of the letters he'd picked himself (P, H, G, and O). 14:07 - That could never have been New York, and he knew it. The category was "thing" and NY isn't a thing. Plus he there was no R in the second word and he picked O as his vowel and didn't get one, so York is impossible as a word. Likewise, State was impossible because of the free S, T, and E and none of them being there.
The T is in the letters that the show gives a contestant so New York State couldn't be it, the baby buggy thing appears in a childhood rhyme in the USA, plus if it was New York State it'd be not in the thing category but place or on the map.
You're in luck. Wheel of Fortune has been on air for 40 years. The host of the Show, Pat Sayjack announced, earlier this month, that his 41st show will be his last. See if you can apply to be a contestant. 😊
Wheel of Fortune is one of my all time favorite game shows. Another one I like is called Price is Right where you have to guess the price of a prize without going over the actual price. Whoever is closest to the price wins it. If you get that prize, you play another game on stage where you can either win money or more prizes.
The sound of the Price is Right Wheel is such an iconic sound in American culture. I imagine it without even needing to watch the show. The sound of being home sick from school and resting on the couch after PBS kids is over.
Pat Sajak recently said that when he or Vanna decides to call it quits, the other one will, too. He said he can't imagine doing the show with anyone else. That's sweet.
13:07 On the lower left of the screen are the free letters they give the contestant for the puzzle. They they have to guess 3 more consonants and 1 vowel. In this case none of HIS letters were in the puzzle.
The show is absolutely still on. And me and my boss watch it at work and we get the puzzles correct all the time with little to no letters, when you watch it enough it becomes easier
Yes there is a $1,000,000 prize on that wheel somewhere. I've actually seen a show where someone won it. And then I've seen a couple of shows where the puzzle wasn't solved and the million dollar prize was picked.
I know it seems wild on the last round, but its actually easier to do the final round (where they open the envelope) because of all the letters that are gone. What you missed was that the letters R S T L N & E are already used and they get to pick 3 more consonants and a vowel. People know they are going on this show and there are websites and games where you can train solving these kinds of puzzles. Like the NEW BABY BUGGY one that was really weird, his only major consonants left were ones like B C G F K P and vowels A I U and he just started sounding off words w/ a good clue the first word was NEW.
The reason why it's so hard for you to solve the puzzles is because you're not from the US ..😊if a puzzle was Smelly Rubbish instead of Leaky Faucet I Wouldn't get it either?..❤ Love Channel.. New Baby Buggy was insane
The key is that you know rstln and e plus the letters you picked aren’t there. These aren’t wild guesses, they’re educated guesses using process of elimination. (This applies to the final round)
It’s about guessing while remembering what letters are eliminated to narrow down possibilities. Person, Place, Thing are the categories. Phrase is another one, I think.
Re: new baby buggy- you have to keep in mind the letters that they are given. it’s not just the N-E- and then a bunch of blank spaces, he knows the letters RSTLNEHMDO were all eliminated so that eliminates so many possible words. For example if you had realized that O was taken, you’d know that New York anything would have been impossible for that puzzle. It’s not always about trying to guess the answer, it’s about eliminating as many incorrect answers as you can
This show first aired in 1975 and is still going strong. These are still the original host (Pat Sajak) and letter turner (Vanna White). Everyone in the US knows their names. The original prizes were things like furniture and appliances. Each player spins the wheel and gets to guess a letter. When that player misses a letter, the next player gets to go. The player with the most money gets to do the final puzzle and the most often used letters, RSTLNE, are given to them. The player gets to pick three additional consonants and one vowel. All of those letters are shown no matter how many times they are in the phrase so you know not to choose a word that doesn't already have the letters showing. For example, if you see a four letter word starting with R, you know the word is not roar or rear). I used to be pretty good at it and my children would tell me I should go on the show. I am sure I would have become mute knowing I was on that side of the tv camera. 😂
Basically it's a fancy "Hangman" game. Originally, people got to choose physical prizes, but that slowed the progress of the game. The game just focused on the money after that.
Gopher means two things. One is an animal and one is someone that Goes for things, like an assistant to someone. They do tell you the category. The New baby buggy was a thing. And buggy is slang for a stroller.
Also remember the time these shows aired. "Country Roads" is super famous to anyone 25+ and especially more southern because the country reference haha. "Take Me Home, Country Roads", also known simply as "Country Roads", is a song written by Bill Danoff, Taffy Nivert and John Denver. It was released as a single performed by Denver on April 12, 1971, peaking at number two on Billboard's US Hot 100 singles for the week ending August 28, 1971. Its the first song I learned to play on guitar following the national anthem. I say 25+ because my little brother and his friends definitely know it since it came out when my dad was little. So basically the parents of many 25+ would have knowledge on it. I'm sure my brothers daughter will also know it when shes older if she gets his love of country music. Other show answers reflect phrases and such relavant to that era, popular shows, events etc. "Wacky neighbor" would have been a Pg way to talk about the relatable experience of a crazy, out there kind of neighbor. Definitely wouldn't be my go to this day and age. I was thinking crazy, dumb, etc... then when I saw it....then I remembered these are all older episodes. Like when I hear hella I'm reminded of California slang in early 2013, or slang I heard in late 2014 since it was out of usage commonly in California by the time it became popular on the other side of the states. 😅 Crazy how trends change and ripple from diffent areas at different times. I just remembered everyone being so tired of hella being used and then I went home for Christmas while on leave from the military and my older siblings had picked up hella due to its rise in popularity and spread through media. So, to me they were prettyuch cringe in the past, yet they were on top of the trend in that area. My poor sister is very much a fit for the starbucks hipster vibe 😅😅😅
Country Roads Take Me Home is an extremely well known song in the US, so she might be right - guessing the word Country for a song could be relatively easy.
Keep in mind - when letters DON'T turn up it also says something. The one where you kept saying new york - the o didn't appear. After eliminating nine letters, he had to come up with a word from the 16 letters left (that included only the vowels a/i/u). It's not easy.
9:15 The category is "what are you doing". This means the first word is likely a verb ending in ING. Once by brain guesses "training", I'm trying to figure out if I can make sense of the rest. After a second or two, I am able to fit the word Triathlon into the last spot.
It's process of elimination and paying attention to the category. Nothing more. The last puzzle seemed easy because LOUD LAUGHTER was her initial guess, leading to her asking for D, G, H and O
One thing the television audience doesn’t see is "the used letter board" - letters which were guessed but don't appear in the puzzle. Using that as a reference can sometimes make guessing easier.
Post my wife and I got the answer to the 1st millionaire winner as soon as the letters were up. We both said leaky faucet simultaneously. That was an example of an answer basically leaping Out At you.
The Million Dollar prize was won the very first time it was part of the show. As for guessing with only one or two letters, it sometime may be related to something that has occurred recently in the person life or is a regular part of it. And some people are very good at filling in the blanks.
The outstanding work was in the category phrase. Many of the categories are so general it is hard to help. The show started in 1975 and is still being made. The premise is fill in the blanks where the wheel gives the prizes for each guess. What you are missing is that all letters that have been guessed are shown. So in the one example New York was out, because there were no R's. When the show first started the letters were on cards that had to be turned over. Then they went to Monitors that reveal the letters.
It's hilarious that she said she could've figured out the puzzle for 'COUNTRY ROADS TAKE ME HOME' with just 3 letters on the board.... Yet, she couldn't figure out the easier puzzle of 'LEAKY FAUCET' that had most of the letters in the puzzle filled. 😭😭😭😭
@@ronclark9724 They also use faucet. I've heard it in British television shows. Not nearly as often as tap, but plenty often. And they watch American TV shows where it's used extensively.
"new baby buggy" is one of those things you hear as a kid that you can't say 5 times fast. Its imbedded into the minds of every American that grew up from 1960 to 1990 lol
They UKers should share their secret. I've been trying to get rid of the buggers for years. Those effers dig under my driveway which is a concern, and every time I get them under control someone plows a vacant lot and I have to start all over again. I swear if my neighbors filmed me trying to get rid of those it could be one of those funny video compilations.
@@Anon54387 I'm ready for gopher nukes at this point. But have you ever seen any of the videos of people who pump propane down the gopher tunnel then light it? Hilarious.

We say faucet for the equipment and the phrase “tap water” for the water coming out of the faucet.
The show is still on the air. In fact, there’s a Celebrity Wheel of Fortune as well. The category is at the bottom of the puzzle.
Wacky Neighbor is a common phrase that refers to a common tv sitcom character.
@14:10 Emil looked at the used letter board off-screen & somehow thought of “B”, like the other player that had “Bubbly soap” lol
Leaky faucet popped into my head right away too. The guy who answered new baby buggy already chose the vowel "o". So the answer wouldn't have been New York. The Wheel of Fortune gameshow still exists.
We don't call a faucet at tap but when get get water from the faucet, we call it Tap Water.
The category for the "Baby Buggy" answer was "THING."
Very vague which makes it more impressive that he got to baby buggy.

Keep in mind - when letters DON'T turn up it also says something. The one where you kept saying new york - the o didn't appear. After eliminating nine letters, he had to come up with a word from the 16 letters left (that included only the vowels a/i/u). It's not easy.
7:19 Couldn't be learn because the R & N are shown not to be in the puzzle. My guess before seeing the answer is "Leaky Faucet"
Yes the show is still on
That show is still on every weekday!
Very entertaining ----- and Millie finally guessed one ---- lookin good Millie
9:15 The category is "what are you doing". This means the first word is likely a verb ending in ING.
Once by brain guesses "training", I'm trying to figure out if I can make sense of the rest.
After a second or two, I am able to fit the word Triathlon into the last spot.
The Wheel is on Monday -Friday. I never miss it.
It’s on nightly. At least 30 years now.
It's process of elimination and paying attention to the category. Nothing more.
The last puzzle seemed easy because LOUD LAUGHTER was her initial guess, leading to her asking for D, G, H and O
Yes we do use the word tap but most Americans usually say faucet.
It saying it was teacher's week just meant that the contestants were all teachers. It was a theme of the contestants not the puzzle.
This is still going strong, you should be able to watch it. You get better at it if you practice.
There isnt a theme to the answers which makes these more impressive
I totally got "leaky faucet" right lol. I didnt win a damn thing, was i was so excited i guessed right 😂
Wheel of Fortune is on Monday through Friday nights 😄
If you enjoyed this game show, there are many on the World Wide Web... This show been on the air five times a week for nearly 50 years, since 1975...
17:31 Yes Wheel of Fortune is still airing...in Canada and the States, anyway.
Like with wacky neighbor because wacky was blank you know those letters like n,b,o,r can't be one of the blank spaces
One thing the television audience doesn’t see is "the used letter board" - letters which were guessed but don't appear in the puzzle. Using that as a reference can sometimes make guessing easier.
That's crazy. Wheel of Fortune has been one of the most popular game shows of all time and has been on the air for years. You all don't know it.
Not on the first episode, but in the first season it was offered.
@@marcpower4167 Like I said the first time it was part of the show.
Yes it’s still on
The outstanding work was in the category phrase. Then they went to Monitors that reveal the letters.
its impressive, but the way to play the game is to know the answer and then keep picking letters that you know will be in the words before solving
2:51 *A staple of Situation Comedies.*
If you've never heard a word before it's hard to guess it, lol.
Never knew there was anyone who'd never heard of the word faucet before, though.
@@xyex 😭😭
@@xyex The British use the word tap instead of faucet...
I'm sorry, I was mistaken. "Rubber baby buggy" is what I was referring to... I guess it's not quite as embedded as I thought lmao
The category was "thing". He just pulled baby buggy out of nowhere.
Still on after all these years I think over 50 years.
There are no gophers in the UK? The little underground rat-squirrels that tear up your lawn?
They UKers should share their secret. I've been trying to get rid of the buggers for years. Those effers dig under my driveway which is a concern, and every time I get them under control someone plows a vacant lot and I have to start all over again. I swear if my neighbors filmed me trying to get rid of those it could be one of those funny video compilations.
@@Anon54387 I'm ready for gopher nukes at this point. But have you ever seen any of the videos of people who pump propane down the gopher tunnel then light it? Hilarious.
Gordon the Gopher was a fixture on UK children's television for years.
@@eclectica1 OK. The Beesleys seemed to have never heard of them.
