  • In today's video I discuss some benefits, or positives, to living with hyperhidrosis. I hope this video can help someone who is feeling really down about having excessive sweating feel a little less sad about it. My wife has sweaty hands and feet. I love it because they feel so soft all the time. I like the feeling on my rather dry lifeless hands on her soft wet hands. I always got tingly when I shook her sweaty palms on our first encounters. She was so embarrassed but I told her on our first date I found it a turn attractive. She was kinda shocked by that. Everyone is different and sometimes things you find gross about yourself can be what draws someone to you. She is really into helping others become ok with hyperhidrosis and I admire that in her. I think we should all embrace our little quirks.

    Agree with all of them. Just one thing that happened to me yesterday. I went grocery shopping and noticed a guy walking past me. Unconsciously I thought "the way he walks is really weird,his legs are spaghetti-like", but then I caught myself in those thoughts and started to shame myself for judging someone with a physical disability without even knowing them. I always manage to connect it with HH since I don't want to be judge by others when I sweat for no reason but then again I myself manage to unconsciously judge others in a fraction of a second. I feel bad...

    • @SweatyJen
      @SweatyJen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think its completely human-nature to judge for a split second. It's just an instinct we have, whether it's good or bad. What matters is that you caught yourself and stopped judging him :)
      I appreciate you watching very much, have a fantastic weekend!

    I'm not sure if you intended this to be funny...but my this was hilarious, had me squealing...made me realise that I had literally never come across humour with this topic...so refreshing, takes a ton of weight off the topic, well done lovely girl with this great idea. Looking back over a lifetime of living with this, the benefits come with overcoming the challenge of it (cos oh boy, it is challenging as we all know) that you also mention elsewhere - like more compassion for ourselves and others, seeing what is inside of people not just the shell. One benefit for me is that I can use my hands to cool down my dog in summer :o)

    Regarding video game controllers, I wanted to share a tip that has worked perfectly for me over the last 30 years of using game controllers with extremely severe hyperhidrosis with no issues. Find a 100% thin (normal) cotton shirt that feels rough and absorbent and place your hands inside to use the shirt like a glove. It’s very comfortable and you can rotate to dry areas of the shirt. This method has resulted in never having a controller issue, including Nintendo Switch. My daughter has the same issue and uses the same method effectively. You’ll need to avoid any material that feels slick or non absorbent. Different types of cotton will have varying degrees of slickness vs roughness. You want to find the most rough and course cotton material. Sometimes the shirts can become rough over time with age. (Old cotton shirts that have been through the dryer many times work better than new cotton shirts I have found.) Hope this helps someone enjoy gaming a bit more. Animal Crossing is indeed a great game.

    Good list! You came up with a lot of benefits I never even thought of, especially like the deeper benefits such as how it shapes who we are and how we think about other people.
    I notice the best way to realize the benefits is to see what is hard to do when your hands are dry. For example the other day I was doing a little sewing with a needle and thread and my hands happened to be dry and it was so hard to work with the thread. I couldn't get a grip on it and it kept doing that static electricity thing. Finally I just wet my hands with some water from the sink and then it was so much easier.
    Stay healthy! I look forward to the next video!

    Omg! I have that exact same scuba Barbie! I used to love changing her colour with my hands hahaha. I also remember I had a Barbie with really bad hair, but when I combed it en then just brushed through it with my sweaty fingers and held it for a while, it looked really nice and shiny. Who would've thought greasy hair could look that great :') Also, I've gotten comments on my modest clothes my entire life, especially in the summer. For me, it's not just because of my sweat, but also because I just feel more comfortable in modest clothing. I never really thought of it as an advantage, but I love your point of view. Really nice video, lots of things I had never thought about before c; Stay safe!

    Off topic but how does hyperhidrosis affect wearing a wedding ring all the time? I’ve always hated wearing rings for this reason because it felt very uncomfortable. I remember this past year’s homecoming i wore a thick silver ring and it bugged me the whole night haha

    • @SweatyJen
      @SweatyJen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I love off topic questions!
      I think hyperhidrosis does make wearing rings more uncomfortable because our fingers change size more and our skin is more sensitive than an average person (from what I've noticed). My wedding band is sterling silver and my engagement ring is gold which helps, the cheaper metal causes my skin to itch and stuff haha. What was the uncomfortable sensation you noticed?!

    • @marissfisch
      @marissfisch 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sweaty Jen it wasn’t as much itching as it just was being aware of the water seeping between the decorative holes in the ring and the weird metallic feeling that’s like touching a rusted pole. I have pretty bad ADHD and my hyperhidrosis kind of worsened a habit I have of running my thumb between the gaps in my fingers, so wearing rings definitely makes me more aware of that habit I have and makes the sweating a lot worse.

    • @SweatyJen
      @SweatyJen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@marissfisch I know what you mean when you say rusted pole feeling haha, before I got engaged I never wore rings, because it was just unnecessary discomfort due to my hyperhidrosis. So I avoided them. But once you wear them for awhile, your mind eventually forgets the ring is even there. For now, I would just focus on jewelry that you can wear comfortably. It sucks that we can't do everything a normal person would do, like wear a ring without thinking about it, but it will all be okay! ♡♡
