They honored the original music video that Dio put out so well, it’s just as cheesy in the best way but also fills me with energy to singlehanded take down the local monarch
The best part is that the original Dio video is not only just as cheesy, but also plotless and even cheaper. Like it had 1K budget, it didn't have any final fight, and most of the budget spent for booze and cokes.
There is something ironic about the fact this video shows off nothing but love for Dio but the fans are utterly divided about it.

Yeah, plus, Jesse is a phenomenal vocalist as well, he's just a different style. Where Howard sings operatically and screams like a panther, Jesse sings with a rock voice and roars like a lion.
Both are fantastic for this band and Howard's new band, Light the Torch, goes along with KSE so well.

Okay don't get me wrong, Jesse Leach is a great singer too and I know that he was the original lead singer of Killswitch Engage. But there's just something about Howard that made the band sound unique and different from most typical rock bands and he's the reason I've recently got into this band in the first. The man is a beast with those powerful vocals and the fact that he did a cover of a Dio song of all things and absolutely nailed it proves it.
Every band, that has a second Singer better than the first is Just unique and Howard was that magic ingredient that made KSE special.
I totally agree Jesse had a more punk/thrash harshness to his voice but Howard has the bombastic opera range that meshes so well with the tones they use for the guitars.

Last summer me and my friend met Howard (very very quickly) I wouldn’t even really call it meeting him. But after his gig with Light The Torch, We ran outside to the tour bus to see if we could say hello, and sure enough there was Howard. We said a couple quick words and said it was an amazing show! And he acknowledged us and said thanks for coming out to the show! Then he jumped on his bus, and took off. It probably didn’t mean anything to him, but to us it meant the world. Being life long fans of his work, it was a very special moment. He’s the best!

i appreciate that killswitch kept vivian campbell's guitar solo exactly how it was on the original because it is perfection. a thousand listens and it still gives me goosebumps. love both versions and i love how much fun they clearly had making the video.
They didn't keep the solo the same at all, but they made callbacks to it. The opening lick is probably the most recognizable callback, but you can hear the two solos go in completely different directions after that lick.

I still prefer the original's vocals and tone, but this is honestly as good a cover as we could have got. Even the video was a proper homage to Dio's passion for fantasy, despite not being as dark as Dio's vision.

I think this song is equivalent, if not a little more than on par with the original song. Please don't hate on either Dio or Killswitch Engage, two excellent recording artists. Both songs do rock music justice. I do prefer Howard's more melodic and piercing vocals, personally. However, anyone is entitled to their opinion, and I welcome all responses that aren't trollish or anything. Non-rant over.

A decent effort but no one can match the original's glory. Dio was a vocal god amongst men, still miss him.
its a tribute to Dio. You're looking at it the wrong way, of course they cant be exactly like the original. That's why they put their own touches and flairs to it, to make the song their own. They did an excellent job turning a classic into modern metal. It's your opinion though, I respect that.
