NE England here. I do the odd bit of fabrication at home and like yourselves the offcuts and handy pieces soon choke up the place. I'm mid-clearout here and have a fair bit of metal to go. Usually a good gauge for me for metal prices is local scrap collectors travelling around - if the price is high I will see dozens of them stalking for metal lol. The last two weeks I've seen none and had assumed that the price must be low. I can't be bothered to weigh what I have in (wouldn't pay for my time nor fuel) and would rather leave the effort to a street collector. I do save non-ferrous metals here and weigh that in myself - must have over half a ton of non-ferrous stacked up here. Metal prices can be strange. I'm aware that local roofers here save old lead for their Xmas bonus and tend to weigh their years worth in two weeks before Xmas. The result is a huge slump in lead prices due to the glut within the scrap buyers yards.
Steel is about 190 bucks a ton here in Ontario Canada ss has been shit for along time at 45 or 50 cents a pound copper on the other hand is at almost 450 a /lbs
currently scrap in slovenia is 140 euros a ton i think, not much considering magazines and papers are like 10e more lol, then again other stuff got ridiculously high like copper is almost 8k a ton for pure wire and then third class of copper which they consider like some old plumbing fittings and shit like that, that goes for 7500 which also amazes me giving how stuff used to be before corona lol
Scrap here in the US is very low - Steel goes for $0.05 per pound Aluminum $0.27 per pound Stainless $0.27 per pound Brass $1.49 per pound. Its almost not worth the trouble to save the scrap.
I don't know the scrap price but you can always tell when it's high round here because the couple of totters come round the neighbourhood with their Transit drop side and PA yelling for Old eyeoorn! That and the car breakers yard outside of town suddenly becomes completely empty. I went there once a few years ago only to be told they had no cars at all. They did have a really big stack of cubed cars waiting for the hauliers though.
What was that!! 150mm steel slab?! have you been assembling a tank? bank vaults? strongrooms? Oh my... I supposed that the "Yellow Stuff" just needed the 50mm steel slabs, but... which beast needs the 150mm ones?! Oh man... no matter how, you have to get that project... and I mean, ofcourse, the tank! In my experience plenty of usable metal goes into scrap. Reason for that is it’s only usable if you have a use for it. Could have a metre long length of steel but if everything you make is 2 metres it is pretty useless.
I checked my local yard for some steel box tube. We don’t have any and you can’t look for it - Covid rules. WTF I’m not going to breath all over your car crushing machine.
Gr8 I will call in after lockdown is lifted👍 I hope I remember how to get there. It's been over 20 year's since I was last at cook bro's we all looked younger back then and I remember seeing a mur hill in the yard awesome machine,👍
bundle up for the cold and wet that day. don't appear to be any easy way to move that stuff. I rate that job right up there with slamming a door onto my prick
£170 there at Coleraine t-met yesterday, n 4.30 for bare copper scraped the "Felty bora" 😢, good pay day all the same. P.s. am a welder in Hutchinson we're flat out atm, are yous? Great videos👍👍

Good old Henley Hercules 👍 , don't see many working anymore!
She's a good old girl, ex RAF with the short mast
Brilliant how that loadall attempted a couple times and only got that little plate. Made me chuckle.
And the guy sat up there on the grabber with his mask on, bless him! Stop the spread!
Scrap can be £0 a ton sometimes when the local transit tipper crews are in a help yourself mood.
I spy some nice plate that would make a for cracking table top for my new work bench! some serious weight there alright!
When I'm high on scrap and running out of room I weld scrap metal sculptures -yet to sell one though
