Wonderful being a fly on the wall for this conversation. Thank you. Late 60’, early 70,s in my late teens I played keys in two bands with Greg and Fred. Fond memories of travelling to Greg’s mums house in Eltham on Saturday afternoon’s for practice. I remember Greg as a generous musician, I had more enthusiasm than talent he always guided and encouraged. Wonderful memories. Eddie Nugent🙏
Among the most gifted song writers Australia will ever produce. Real world stories observed with wit. Amazing songs that took Pop to a much higher level of awareness. My hero.
Thanks for the interview. It's always good to see and hear from Greg. I've often thought the timing of everything was so integral to the success of Skyhooks and deservedly so. They were the right sound and image for the time. The right combo of personalities and styles in the band, Mushroom, Ross Wilson then the start of Countdown ... it was perfection.
Skyhooks were so brilliant I thought they must have been from overseas but when I found out they were from my neighbourhood I was stoked and a lifelong fan😊
They sounded like nothing else back then, in the days when heavy blues bands ruled the roost. As a musician of a similar age I was in awe of their freshness and vitality.
Saw them at the Bondi Lifesaver on what would have been the cusp of the Living in the 70's rise to fame. Everybody was completely blown away, not only by the songs, but the punch, volume and incredible quality of their live sound. I always thought their records never conveyed that sound, they were rather thin and reedy by comparison. Great songs all the same. Nice interview.
Recognising Gough Whitlam had cancelled conscription in 1972 I arrived in Perth in WA in June 1974. I spent a few months up north in Dampier. Came back to Perth and stayed in the travellers hostel in Newcastle Street. Sandgroper bar down at the Leederville Hotel was a great venue and had Skyhooks playing at the end of September early October. Lots of 70's Australian energy. Then caught up with them at Mushroom Records offices in Melbourne a short while later. Yeah - What ever happened to the revolution!
I was 14 when this superb album came out. Sadly the 'Hooks were yesterday's news by 1977-78, though saw them in a re-form concert at Festival Hall ('81 or '83? Someone help me on this please) - and they were FANTASTIC! Great interview by the way - an interviewer who actually knows about the other person's history!
This man and his songs and lyrics through Skyhooks were a revelation in the 70's and brilliantly sung by Shirl. RIP Shirl. He is missed. th-cam.com/video/VIirUs1K9pc/w-d-xo.html
What an incredible waste studying/practising law. etc. One of Australia's GREATEST ever poets abandoned his rare talent for a pedestrian 'job'. FFS. Life Lesson? ALWAYS stick with what yr especially good at, when its so hard to be good at anything.. Talent is a gift. Doesn't necessarily mean money, mansions and prostitutes. Skyhooks had SENSATIONAL lyrics, tight melodies that matched along with that unique pizzaz. Living in the 70s and Tall Timber my favs.
Greg studied copyright law and worked for benefit of other artists rights. He has done great work contributing behind the scenes of the industry for the creators

Thanks Cashman , you do a great interview!
'Balwyn Calling' was my favourite, a true Aussie suburban ballad.
Great interview. I'd love to see another focusing on the Guily album and onwards.....
Ego Is Not a Dirty Word was the first 45 I ever bought. 😃
They talk about love on the radio.
Still one of my favorite bands. And I'm living in the 2025s
Great band mighty first album.

Who was actually responsible for the decision to ban ? And would it have been legally enforceable i wonder ? Skyhooks legacy ...should loom larger imo
Whatever happened to the revolution.
