    Interesting.... Bout a month ago I just got fed up with dealing with all the things everyone said about the ego and what to do with it... I.e. Destroy it,dissolve it, cast it out, ignore it, convince it that it was not going to non existence and so on and so on..
    Sooooo one day, I thought ,well since I truly am everything within my creation then stands to "reason" that on some level I was the ego. Next thing that came about was as the ego I felt that all I was really doing was trying to protect me from what the physical mind (which can only know how things "have" happened and how things "are" happening) thought . Being conditioned as it was from the "past". I also felt that as the ego I was utterly exhausted from
    Trying to do the 'job" that I could not truly do, because that job was for the "higher mind" (soul if you will) Then again as the ego I was grateful to be recognized and choose to be dissolved within the higher soul that I am and transformed into the light of what I am.....
    Whatever "shows up in my reality, first I realize it's my creation and that on some level it serves me ,secondly I love it, thirdly I know .if it's there it has a right to exist,until it no longer serves my highest good....
    ha! Sounds like ramblings of a soul that's within remembrance...
    Sincerely 🌹
    P.s. Not totally "dissolved " however much ,much more peaceful with far less negative voices in my "head". .

    To be aware means that you see the voice in your head that is always talking and see the mental images that arise, images which you can't see anywhere if you look for them because they are only in the head. So if you can "practice" this you begin to notice "Am I that voice that is talking in my head or am I the seer, he/she who sees that?".

    I was introduced to Tolle 3 months ago. The Power of Now, really helped me. I'm not at all religious. I found that I unintentionally wound my stresses up until I exploded and lashed out. I don't understand or believe all of his teachings, but that small amount I did understand changed my life for the better.

    Ok, here's some advice from someone who has been a Pureland/zen Buddhist. If you are suffering, then you may not be practicing so well. I believe that we do not need to try too hard to realise our true nature, It is so simple, just sit and watch your breath. It might happen instantly or it might take ten yearsm but what is important it the fact that you do not strive, you just sit and allow everything to be as it is. Try this simple approach and let me know how you get on. Mano Amida bu :)

    God I love this man! I was struggling this morning with ego and surrender- I really don't like that word! I was lying in bed asking Source to help me understand once and for all and nothing was coming. Even though I have a wealth of spiritual knowledge I couldn't wrap my mind around surrender. I got up, picked up my phone and went to TH-cam, almost mindlessly, and I typed "what is the ego and surrender" and about 4 videos down was this one. The perfect answer. And just like that I am no longer suffering.
    Thank you God for putting Eckhart in my path that day in 2005 and for returning him to my awareness today.
    Thank you 😇Eckhart for all your work.
    Namaste ❤️❤️❤️❤️

  • @osmo321
    @osmo321 12 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I notice that this answer comes a little late but here it is. First of all its not really a doing to not identify yourself with thought, so you can't really "do" anything, its more like seeing or sensing/feeling. All you really need is to be aware that thought is going trough your head when it is going trough your head, if you are not aware that you are thinking then you "are" the thoughts, you become what you think.

    I love the comment by @osmo. It's not a doing but rather a new way of sensing/viewing/being.
    So if you can
    "practice" this you begin to notice "Am I that voice that is talking in my head or am I the seer, he/she who sees that?"
    What does Eckhart mean by identification?
    All you really need is to be aware that thought is going trough your head when it is going trough your head, if you are not aware that you are thinking then you "are" the thoughts, you become what you think.
    Eckhart may be right that the reason this is happening is a evolutionary step. A metamorphosis that is meant to happen, by the will of nature rather than any man or woman... But I don't think the woman's answer (or the titular question was fully answered).
    What is the mechanism by which the ego dissolves?
    Obviously, it doesn't choose to dissolve by itself. Putting Eckhart's explanation in new words, the ego can be thought of as a "crude manifestation" of universal intelligence rather than a "distinct entity". Hence, the caterpillar into a butterfly metaphor.
    The metaphor that came into my own mind is that of a child playing with robot dolls. At first, the child thinks it IS the dolls, it becomes identified with the game. It suffers greatly because of how seriously it takes everything. The fact that a child plays with dolls at all is miraculous and one step above previous evolutions. However, this manifestation of the child can be called the ego.
    But then awareness comes in. And the child realizes that it is not the toys. Rather, it is merely experiencing the world through them. It is something far greater. It is the awareness... the consciousness beneath the doll's thoughts.
    This is the manifestation of consciousness. Awareness. The end of ego.
    Everyone in that audience glimpses this state of being and keeps trying to go back. But it is not something the doll can "do". It can only happen when the one who makes the doll "do" things realizes that it is watching from outside.

    the caterpillar is still a caterpillar, only it has learned to fly, it does not let go of its egoist caterpillarness, it merely trandsends it. it still values and confers to its nature before its transendence, and in this way finds balance. in all things natural we find balance. humans are beginning to comprehend the need for balance.

    Even if I want to argue with the other person due to his wrongdoings, I fear the he would view me as a narrow-minded person. I cannot make a decision despite the fact that I am the one who feels distressed.
    In the end, negative emotions pile up on top of each other. After that, I wait for it all to explode. Or more like, I try to look for an excuse to explode. I would even picture myself bursting out in anger in an imaginary situation inside my mind.
    Just as we try to calm someone down if he/she is crying sadly, we have made an unspoken social promise that there are emotions that we should not be feeling.
    Hence, the oppressed emotions begin to accumulate within us. Chronic fatigue or bad habits are a result of this.

    how does one know that a conscious awakening they experience, isn't merely their own ego wanting to be expanded/englightened? perhaps our "self" is always manifest through the ego, though the ego deludes itself into thinking it is enlightened, or beyond itself.

    • @Biolupus
      @Biolupus 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      don't ask, just allow it to be and see by yourself.
      but if you're too much addicted to questions, you'll need to see "it" several and several times before you realize what the genuine absence of doubts reveals...

    • @adamsoullier563

      because enlightenment/conscious awakening is opposite of the definition of the ego, where as ego is thinking of ones self etc, and conciously awakening has to do with letting go of yourself/needs etc i believe. otherwise with what your implying you could label the ego to everything.

    Fools attempt to surrender or destroy ego, but the wise path is to realize "ego". One cannot hunt it down for it haunts you own. The path of wisdom is that of love not hate. Matter can neither be created nor destroyed, only converted from one form to another. Ego is "the link" between matter and anti matter. Why attempt surrender or destroy that which is a God given opportunity? realize it and put it in the right place. To fight ego is to fight nature's happening. Remember karma is the only logical answer to the inequalities and deficiencies we find in a perfectly created universe. First answer this question - who is that? who is trying to destroy or put "it" place? ask or meditate on ..who is it?

    • @MajorCulturalDivide
      @MajorCulturalDivide 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      J Vijay Kumar a.k.a. Prof VKJ Karma is man's answer to a question only man would ever think of asking. Life doesn't ask such a question. In reality there is no karma.

    • @vkj108
      @vkj108 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MajorCulturalDivide what you commented is true. Karma is a word given by man's understanding not by life. But the doubt: in reality is there "a law of" action vs reaction? [Newton's 3rd] and does it apply selectively or partly? or not at all? one has to wonder or ponder or decide for oneself. What we perceive? How we perceive? How much can man perceive life? will all obviously have different outcomes, is it not so? Does it only depend on Man's intellectual capacity or memory coupled with free thinking or is it by Grace of life? What is needed is a thinking that does divide a subject as well as joins it relatively as everything is related directly or indirectly. A thinking that cannot be conditioned or prejudiced by others or any past belief system, an open mind has to be encouraged. A thought now rises, is it probable that there is "no thinking" at all in reality? since most thoughts dissolve without converting to actions..
