    Well, that's a creative way of using digital that never occurred to me. You got great tones. The music was great, too. It's been years since I've been to a show, so even a few snippets like you had here were enough to elicit goosebumps. 🥰

    Great video. I am a new QC user very much in learning stages so I really appreciated your showing settings / signal chain of each of the presets demo’d. I don’t play guitar but rather an e-violin and am really getting into metal - this video really helped to gain more insight into setting up my sounds. Thanks again.

    I watch this kind of quad cortex usage in Kiko of Megadeth video. Now you explain and demo it very clearly. This is a proof that for a bedroom guitarist, like me, digital amp sim is the most convenience tools. Off course having one or two tube amp will be nice, but it isn't a must in today digital world.

    Neural - you've got to get a marketplace going in your Cloud so guys like Pete, Michael Britt, etc, can get their captures out there for folks. It'll help your product and these guys have to make a living - they spend a LOT of time getting these tones together and it's not always feasible for them to just give them away...

    • @TheJonOsborne
      @TheJonOsborne 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I use my Kemper sort of the same way, but i don't come out of my amp to the unit, i go from my Kemper to the FX return on my head for stage monitor, then i have L & R XLR's outputs on the rear of the Kemper for FOH, pretty simple setup. But people always give me a hard time, asking why did i get a KPA, when i'm still using my amp.. well, my amp is only good for a few tones, and the Kemper in unlimited, and i still get the live feel from the amp.

    I'd love to see you do a rig set up that isn't so complicated. You're a master at getting amazing results with any gear. This kind of rig is just beyond most peoples understanding and budget. Pete, you are a beloved content creator in the guitar community and you are a musician par excellence. You are also an unapologetic gear junkie that needs rehab😀. Your touring board is a monstrosity, but you still felt the need to add a Quad Cortex?? 2 H9s??!! C'mon, man, this is the definition of overkill, no? • @jameslanclos568
    @jameslanclos568 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought the Quad Cortex and so far everything seems to be way over my head, like running it through MIDI the way you explained. I want to use the QC along with my analog pedals through a tube amp, but I can't figure it out.
    The only other option is using a Laney LFR 112 or a Laney LFR212 active cabinet. They seem to be the best FRFR active speaker cab choice that I can make.
    An idea I had was to use the QC as an effects pedal, with the amp modeling turned off, would that work with a tube amp? Any tips or new ideas?

  • @phaskellhall
    @phaskellhall 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I believe I understand your setup, Suhr Amp with Pedalboard to get tones and then QC for your speaker simulator and wet effects. Why not use it for all your drives and other effects too and why not use the switches on the QC for your switching? Maybe you are using a "Hybrid" mode by letting your MIDI unit switch banks and the QC is set to scene? Also do you feel the QC can't compete with the Eventides? Maybe the whole point is you've dialed in so many of your sounds with your pedal board already that it's just easier to use the QC for the final amp micing and reducing stage volume but in my mind, it seems the QC could replace almost all of the pedal board entirely. It kind of feels like this setup is one foot in the traditional and one foot in the future which seems a little more complicated than being two feet in one setup. Love your playing by the way and your channel in general!

    • @PeteThorn
      @PeteThorn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, if you watch my latest rig, rundown, I’m kind of doing precisely what you’re describing on my last tour. And you’re not wrong that using my pedalboard in the way, I just cried here, was because I had many sounds programmed already, and I’m very comfortable with it. I still really love a traditional board and amp setup, it’s nice to be able to just reach down and turn a knob… or hit a pedal on the fly. But can I do everything with a QC and work? Yes. And the travel is nice when you can fit it in a backpack! So I’m kind of doing both these days. Just depends on the gig I used the QC in 4 cable method a couple nights ago for a gig, with my PT 100 head, QC was for all FX, and was also controlling the amp because my amp has Midi so that’s another way to do it.

    I am currently using a Fractal FX8 with tube amp for all my gigs, with a mic'd cab. I've thought about getting like a HX Stomp for backup, in case my amp ever blows mid-gig. Now I am thinking about getting a QC, to use for just amp effects, and be able to instantly be back up and running with a backup. Does this sound like a reasonable use case? Does QC do 4CM well? May eventually go all direct too, so I'd be setting myself up well for that.

    What is a typical set list for this tour?

    Hey Pete, can you talk about your mic placement on the cab sims? I’m surprised to see you have them both almost all the way out to the edge of the speaker on every preset. I would think you’d lose too much clarity that way

      Yeah I have them out a little further “on the cone” than I would if I was recording, but it just sounded good to me in the PA. And you hear that it’s not actually that dark in the video. Many times playing live, I will place a microphone further out into the con of the speaker than I would if I was recording. I don’t know if this is because of the way that PA systems are EQ’d, or watt, but often a darker or at least a more neutral sound works better in a PA, as compared to when recording I might go for more cut.
      With that said there is still further adjustment to move the microphone out further in the virtual cabinet block, it’s not all the way out to the edge. Trust what your ears tell you also not what you see visually. For example with my Dyna mount microphone robotic mounting thing that I use in the studio, the app often shows on screen that I have the mic moved out quite far into the cone, but then when I go look at it on the actual speaker it’s really not that far out at all maybe at Max halfway between the cap and the cone. So you can really only trust your ears.

      @@PeteThorn thanks for the thorough reply! I wish I was able to fine tune my settings over a PA, usually I have to trust what my studio monitors are telling me when making my patches and hope it translates live. But then again I’m only hearing the show in my ears, so I’ll never know what the audience is hearing but at least I’ll have a good time lol

    Hi Pete. I'm curious as to why the QC is getting the nod over the H9's, Mobius and Timeline for mods and delay? It's almost the complete opposite of my setup where those effects go to outboard pedals and the QC does the rest.

      I’m using the H9 and the Mobius and the timeline with the Amp, sone in front some in the loop- But of course that’s in mono. So running the quad post amp allows me to split to stereo. Also because it’s right at the end of the chain it serves as a back up I could plug my guitar directly into it call up a patch with an amp model and cab sim and rock right into the PA, in the event that my amp or board went down.
