  • Dai Wei: Three Pieces for String Quartet
    Stephen Kim, violin
    Lun Li, violin
    Kunbo Xu, viola
    Oliver Herbert, cello
Performed on Wednesday, December 7, 2016
Field Concert Hall, Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia
The composer shares the following note about her work:
Three Pieces for String Quartet explores different types of time perception. What interests me is that, our consciousness often draws a timing process. However, none of us are a witness of time but a witness of moment.
In the first movement, the constant rhythmic grooves freezes one moment in time. The second movement draws the heartbeat rate of the human body into the tempo. Ideas may be heard from the first movement and the second movement, reappears in the third movement in a different context, and it stretches out a moment.
