Whether you are told it's a girl singing to her lover or a father or mother singing to a son depends on the sex and age of the singer you ask. (And can you blame singers for claiming that their performance is appropriate?)
Nice voices but quite frankly, I think very personnaly that this arrangement is really unsatisfying for such a lovely song...
