Thank you for your wonderful reaction. IU/Lee Ji-eun is a South Korean actress, singer, songwriter and record producer. V/Kim Tae-hyung is a South Korean singer, actor, songwriter, producer from the world famous band BTS. In the music video IU’s character is deaf and Taehyung’s one eye is blind. That’s why she uses sign language when they’re eating. In the end she closes Taehyung’s good eye when the cube found them because she didn’t want him to see the inevitable happen to them. It feels like you are watching a movie. Director Um Tae-hwa on the significance of the camcorder: “In the world of the camcorder, they look neat rather than messy like in reality, eat beautifully prepared delicious food and enjoy the happiness they could have only imagined while wearing shiny dresses and tuxedos” IU and V represent people who are disabled, or deemed as diff/broken etc, and the cube is basically representing hatred and the black masked people are like society who is against them. IU and V shows you that through everything that is against them, their love wins all. The message is how our world will never be without hate, discrimination, injustice and violence, but if we continue to love each other, our love will see us through to the end. Our love will keep us together until we fade away.
In IU's channel IUTV, there is behind-the-scenes footage of "LOVE WINS ALL," where she caught a cold during the MV shoot. The song was recorded in a less than optimal physical condition after shooting the MV (wIU 'Love wins all' Recording Behind). IU is a singer-songwriter, music producer, actress, and host, as well as a passionate philanthropist. Her voice is angelic, and her personality mirrors that of an angel. I recommend watching IU's 20-minute live performance in "Killing Voice" (with English subtitles). This will give you an understanding of her vocal abilities across various music genres. Despite suffering from nasal inflammation and not being in the best physical condition on the recording day, she delivered a flawless performance, making this video currently the most popular in the "Killing Voice" series.
your reaction is on point...the cube is reflects most of us and our judgments against what we believe is not perfect and that does not fit in our boxes of reality. subscribed!
Both IU and V have acted in Korean tv series as well as being singers/performing Artists. V (who is a member of BTS) wanted to give his fans a chance to see his acting again before he left in the mandatory enlistment of the Korean Army. He didn’t have time to do a movie or series so when IU asked him to act in her music video, he quickly accepted. This is a very beautiful song and IU has a phenomenal voice. check out her MV “Eight” with Suga ( a rapper and also a member of BTS) Thanks for your reaction💜
Their chemistry is off the charts along with her voice. Like a lullaby, so soothing. When I first saw the Cube, I thought of the BORG, from Star Trek. Here is a link about the BORG: The Borg seems to be the Cube. If you notice, in the first scene, clothes were littered all around the area. The director says; the Cube is "Society", so you nailed it. When they looked into the camera, everything seemed normal. All their scrapes & bruises are gone. V's eye was normal. When they weren't looking through the camera V's eye was blind. Like looking through Rose colored glasses. We see through that wall that the outside world is terrible and the world is filled with Cubes. Their survival looks bleak. The looks on their faces is so scared. She grabs the pipe to protect them. He grabs the pipe from her, so she could get away and he can protect her. She is still there with him. She could have run but she didn't. He falls back into her arms. They hold each other tight. She takes her hand and covers his good eye so he can't see their end, the music is building. the last tear drops, the camera shows them being taken away, the camera dies and their clothes fall from the sky, on to the mountain of clothing. My heart breaks but What a Love Story.
FYI IU wrote the lyrics and Produced the MV. I am going to subscribe to your channel with the Hope's that you will take a deeper dive into IU's music. She is a generational talent and one of the best vocalist in the world today and that is not just me saying that, Rolling Stone Magazine last year added her to their list of the 200vGreatest Singers Of All Time. Tiny bit of background. IU started auditioning when she was 13 and was rejected 20 times. Can you image being a 13 year old and singing before panels of adults and being told NO 20 times but keeping a smile on your face and going off to the next one. She was signed by a small company when she was 14 and debuted 10 months later at 15. Became a national star at 17 with 2 #1 hits, Good Day and Nagging. Since then she has had over 32 #1 hits in Korea and Asia, twice as many as any other artist or group. With this release she ties BTS with the most songs debuting at #1 and the only Korean female (artist or group) to debute at #1. And she is coming to six US cities for the first time this July, Atlanta, D.C., New Jersey, Chicago, Oakland and LA, as part of her World Tour. The male lead is V from BTS, the biggest group in the world. If you like soothing voice, please react to some of his solo songs, his album came out late last year. Baritone voice, his range is crazy as he can fo to high notes as well. His genre is r&b, neo soul with a bit of jazz. I recommend Love Me Again and Slow Dancing. 💜💜
The cube/box are in the end not important to the actual story. The story is about LOVE. It isn't and what the cubes are, where they came from, etc. All we know all we need to know is that they are evil/ hate. I can tell you without question is that contrary to some claims they are not and do not represent a particular kind of hate or evil or a targeted hate or evil (meaning they are not targeting particular types or kinds of people or groups) they are targeting all of humankind period. Because Love is a human emotion and is the only emotion that can save the human race regardless of what threatens us, hate from within or from aliens. IU wrote on her website the she is telling a story of people will struggle to love even when the world gets in the way. Hence Love Wins All. Not love wins against this kind of hate or that kind of hate. That idea which is being spread by some about this video and who use as their reference a guy who published a story some where claiming that his sources were a Guide posted by EDAM Ent on their website and an audio recorded interview with the director where the he claims the director says that the Cube's name is Nemo. All of this information is either false, misleading or great liberties have been taken. 1-There is no Guide to the videos on EDAM site. IU has posted a letter about the video and telling her fans that this one is dedicated to her fans. There is nothing in IU posting the remotely comes any where near any of these claims. She only talks about hate and that hate is always alone and Love is relentlessly together. Claiming as some do that the cubes represent discrimination against people with disabilities is not only wrong it is offensive. That claim turns the story of universal human love into an US versus then fight. It is the opposite of inclusive and changes the focus away from love to finger pointing, blaming others and hate. The lyrics also don't support this claim in the least. In fact hate is never mentioned neither are the injuries/disabilities of the two main actors. The lyrics may one mention of the cubes calling then Ruiner also can be translated as Destroyer. Which is a generalized description not a Ruiner/destroyer of the disabled. The Video also doesn't support this claim. If the cubes are only after those who are different (i.e. shave a disability) then where are the rest of the people? Where are the equipment and aids that disabled people depend and reply on like wheelchairs, canes, walkers, artificial limbs etc etc etc. There are none to be seem anywhere. People get hung up on the cubes. And they are present to represent a generalized evil which is out to destroy those who are struggling to find, keep and maintain their love even when the world is hell bent on stopping then. Does it really matter where they went? What where the cubes came from, why they are destroying lives? No it only matters that they are and it only matter that V and IU in fact Won by Loving each other to the end.
Thank you for your wonderful reaction.
