Day 2 Louis Vuitton Semi Finals - Piling On The Pressure - America's Cup - 15-9-24

- After two scores of two nil on the opening day of the Louis Vuitton Cup semi finals it was clear that the losing teams needed to up the ante to avoid this being a very short series. They knew it, we knew it…but what would happen? Some were calling it survival Sunday, it wasn’t quite that as a win is decided on the first to get five points on the board, but it was clear that the pressure was on from two teams that had it in mind to dominate the proceedings.
Matt Sheahan reports from the action in Barcelona.

Best AC review on the internet. Very well respected reporter. He makes the best questions and is respecful to everyone. Way to go.
Thank heavens for your videos. The official YT channel is a hot mess.
It's not that bad. I've been watching on Discovery+ in the UK, and the live commentary has been missing for the two semi-final days so far. In the post race interviews with the helmsmen you only hear the sailors' answers to the commentators' questions! I switched to watching on TH-cam instead.
The improvement by Ineos is staggering, and surprising compared to the last two cycles. Face off with LR seems inevitable. And enviable :)
New transition music is awesome. Thank you for listening to your fans!!
Prada Looks soooooo good.
They looked average against NZ.
The mistakes by the opposition make them look better than they are.

I think magic is in the same boat as last time. A very finely balanced edgy boat. Fast but, on a knife edge.
What surprises me is that how unprepared AM were for this foreseeable event losing a key crew member. On stage understudies are well prepared to stand-in in any circumstances and with a team and budget of this size I would thought that having a key person not have a fully trained understudy is poor planning.
Why wasn't there a penalty for the pre start port starboard, please?
Wow!
This is fantastic racing. So much fun to watch!
Best cup ever, so hard to watch the loosing boats suffer like that. Hats off to everyone
Very professional. Keeps me up to date daily
Matt, you're a class act. Thank you for your insightful analysis. I think we're all hoping for closer matches, but it's the AC - the faster boat always wins.
I am mystified as to why no penalty was given to Alinghi - can you explain Matt the reasoning
How did Alinghi not get a penalty
Thanks.... American Magic is going to need to get help from Neptune tomorrow.
The umps not giving a penalty for that port starboard? Another questionable decision...
If I was to put money on it... I wouldn't be betting on any comebacks on day 3.
Shame, you could have got good odds

LoL 😄
One of the major reasons American Magic will not challenge for the Cup is because of what Slingsby said @3:36. They simply did not train for contingencies. Fatal mistake. The back up skipper should be just as capable as the main skipper. They were in Barcelona for 18 months. Why wasn't the backup skipper being trained? You can't tell me Slingsby was telling the truth when he said the backup skipper only sailed the boat in light airs. Just BS. Slingsby whined and moaned like a typical Aussie. Didn't hear him having any sympathy for Team NZ in 2017 in San Fran. He needs to grow up just like Spithill had to.
Well written. 2017 AC was in Bermuda.
Well taken. One thing they keep saying on the broadcast is how much simulator time Luca has. Obviously that sim is not enough to replace actual "stick time" on the water.
@@cjhickspe1399 Yes, being on the boat on the sea, feeling the breeze is key
I am sure Slingsby is livid. He seems like a baller. Goodison going down was the worst possible thing to happen to AM. You can hear Slingsby coaching Luca through the turns but the mistakes are killing them and Luna Rossa is not making any. So disappointing.
Thanks team again for this analysis! Did I see a Mission Control sign at the base??😂
What's Cinnie Jones doing in an Ineos t-shirt behind Lee Mc's interview 😂
Vinnie
what are the kiwis up too
They are not racing again untill the challengers are decided - they are working on making their boat faster.
i just hope that AM & ARBR will extend racing for at least a day. We will all be bored without it
American had Boeing work on there boat > ????? LOL
They are still learning these non-traditional boats. It’s one thing cleaning the bottom to pickup half a know quite another adjusting elevens and changing foils not to mention computer controlled riggings etc. complex these are.
Dear Mr. Planet Sail. Great commentary, but the correct phrase to describe a close finish at around 1:08 is; "a miss, is as good as a mile', not a "a miss is as good as a mile'. Good coverage of the races, keep up the informative summaries.
American Magic just are not fast enough. With the enherent fault of not enough hydrolic power....my prayers are with AM.
Imagine praying for a sporting outcome??? Important to focus on the real important world issues I guess??!
@@adamizett3169 How about Hopes and Prayers? LOL.
How about a real American skipper!
Slingsby has a US passport , US wife, what are you looking for, US accent?
The two penalties incurred by LR in their second match today against AM seemed a practical joke as in neither case did they reduce VMG anywhere near 50m trailing.
Have to say AM have the hottest cheerleaders
Please like, subscribe & comment, this bloke should have 100k subs easy….. 💪🏽 Best race recap on UTube..
You tube edited the phrase. 'a near miss is as good as a mile'
I laughed so hard at the English boat at the start, now I'm not laughing so hard haha.
Nz need to copy what ever they are doing haha.
That hull shape is hard to copy though
It is obvious that The Americans missed the mark with the Recumbent Cycling position . It led to a beautiful boat ….. but left them with limited power during maneuvers. Combine that with a new helmsman ( still not sure why they didn’t get Lucas more time in the cockpit ) and ANY mistake is catastrophic. Poor design , Poor training ….. Poor American Magic .
I'm not sure but i think they could have put normal cyclors in the sidepods even with this smaller freeboard.
American magic would be better off sticking upright bikes with the cyclors poking out the top. Areo isn’t quite as important as readily available power to trim the boat. Shame to see them struggle.
It's been pointed out that an aero advantage with the hull can save you seconds around the course, but because water is 830 times denser than air, a foil advantage can save you minutes!
Cheerleaders? So American! Duh!
What is Alingi doing in the Semis at all? They are plain useless.
Because they had more wins than the French.
AM is done. Here is to hoping we have better sailing next cup
Yep, loosing Goodie was a fatal blow. Shows how important time in the boat is.
@@davidr5597 Was that a shot of him on shore I saw?
@JGRGilbert I don't know what you saw. Apparently he broke 5 ribs falling through a hatch. Hope he didn't puncture a lung!
@@davidr5597 Isn't that him in the shades and dark blue shirt at 1:26?
@@JGRGilbert I don't think so. That guy at 1:26 looks too young.
