Thank you so much for this dude. If 343 won’t fix it, I’m happy the community now has the ability to. Maybe someday we can even find a way to get the old UI and UX working in the MCC versions of these games
It's definitely a bug that's only one part of a much larger issue since the game had its tick rate upped to 60 hz. Seems all of the games have screwed up AI that makes them more aware of the player and fire their weapons at higher rates than normal. As far as I'm aware this problem seems to be more noticeable at only certain parts of the games like when fighting the seraphs in Reach using the Saber. Enemies are far more aggressive than on legacy xbox 360. The brutes firing too fast on gravemind was one area where it's pretty noticeable. Not sure if all the games can be fixed.
Not only did they fix the graphics, but they also found a way to imitate the seamless level transitions that the OG had, and all that had to do was just remove the loading screen picture and audio. And also I think they even removed the Anniversary graphical side of the engine entirely, which I honestly wish we could do to save up some space. It's not 100% the real thing, but it sure is a whole lot better than having those out of place MCC loading screens, honestly. Edit: it seems the later levels don't have this sorta thing unfortunately.
@southpaw117 Seriously. The original loading screens really made you feel like you were in that universe, honestly. Absence of end credits stings the most for me, honestly.

Stellar work. One thing to note just for future reference, Your editing is a little... hyperactive? Might want to take a breath during the edit and also watch it back without being so incredibly hyped up on whatever it is you were using to push through the editing, just to make sure you paced the before/after shots in a way that the default, sober brain could comprehend (lmao). Otherwise, this is such a fantastic showcase of the reason why the texture work in Halo is so special. They cracked the code, maaan. Layers of love. This is super exciting to see. Shame all of these fixes require mods, considering how tedious it is to have to work around offline mode play. Echoing everyone else: Thank you for your dedication!
This looks amazing, so many little details that on their own are easy to brush off but when noticed in tandem just make the game look... off. Amazing work man!
The “available” now is always so cold! Nothing beats it. Such tremendous work to make completely imperceptible changes!…I kid, of course. Though some of these are a major spot the difference challenge.
Just pointing out: at 2:17, the sniper still has a helmet/different face in your fixed version, not to mention the colors don't match Xbox. Was this an editing mistake or is that yet to be restored?
You don't know how important this is for many of us. Thank you so much Why. I hope other games in MCC get worked on as well. It was up to the community at the end...
I do wonder how difficult would it be for Halo Studios to implement these fixes to the vanilla game? Especially with the more noticeable issues like the low quality wall textures
Considering that they *won't* even so much as tidy up The Exchange (Something that they've demonstrated they can do without any major or disruptive updates with an amendment following the August 2022 Update) nor update the Steam Store Page to disclose the use of Easy Anti-Cheat, I wouldn't get your hopes up that they are even so much as willing to do something like that, even if they entirely relied on the I-don't-think-it's-even-running-anymore Halo Insider program to outsource the play-testing for such an Update to volunteers (The February 2024 Update ended up needing to largely fix what the July 2023 Update newly broke such as Keyboard Bindings for Halo 3 & Halo 3: ODST) or suddenly decided that they should be paying people such as the former Digsite Crew (Of which 'why' himself has provided credited assistance for) to continue doing such work in their place (Even if it all ends up on the Steam Workshop and, if we're lucky, with tag and/or source file releases on GitHub, ModDB and/or NexusMods). And I wouldn't necessarily get your hopes up even if rumours about Halo: The Master Chief Collection getting a port to Nintendo's next system turn out to be anything above bogus (Games published by Xbox Game Studios have arrived on Nintendo Switch in the past, so there's reason to believe that is at least possible), because the likelihood of that being an in-house project is pretty low given -343 Industries- Halo Studios life-long track record (Even The Master Chief Collection itself was highly dependent upon the work of Saber Interactive, Certain Affinity, United Front Games, Blur Studio, and then Ruffian Games [now Rockstar Dundee] & Splash Damage once Halo: Reach & the P.C. port became a factor, with a no-more-than-a-dozen-people "343 Publishing Team" handling the in-house work on the Collection once they returned to it in 2018 after it being practically left to rot after 2015).
*Ptoo* *COUGH* SAY WHAT?! This is awesome! I had given up on Halo 2 restored to its original glory. No doubt Halo has the best community and the only thing keeping it alive.
I will always appreciate restoration attempts like this, but it's been so long since I've seen Halo 2 on an original Xbox, I never committed some of these smaller details to memory. If you sat me down with this mod, and didn't tell me anything was changed, I would just assume it was regular MCC Halo 2. A lot of these changes are complete improvements in fidelity, but some of them are more "My eyes see this as just different, and not better or worse". I don't know if I will ever try this, but thank you for your work on it.
This is incredible- do you think it'd be possible to maybe do something about how quiet the classic Halo 2 music can be at times compared to the anniversary OST? Or is it just meant to be like that. This ontop of that would just make it perfect, honestly.
On the one hand, it's really sad to see that it has had to come down to you having to do this for yourself (Especially as it has become very clear that the only care -343 Industries- Halo Studios has for it's community developers is how much they can ride off of their free labour for their own benefit, never mind how little respect they have left to show to their customers). On the other hand, I'm very grateful to see that you have taken the available opportunities to do so. Between this & other projects such as Ruby's Rebalanced - Halo 2 (v4.0? I'd call it "Ruby's Renovated" at this point!), it's wonderful seeing this great old game looking in better shape than ever!

343 still needs to work on the audio. There's certain sound effects that are too loud, and I can't usually hear the music too well (quarantine zone specifically). On my Vizio speakers, I'm using the dolby atmos to make the sound even better. In all the other Halo games, the audio is very crisp and clear. Halo 2 classic needs work with what I mentioned above.

just about the only things i disagree with are the new beam rifle zoom hud (the original has a bunch of aliasing that makes it seem like the lines were supposed to be thinner), and the enhanced normals for the weapons. Replacing each of the normals with a clean cut line isn't right, the normal map created the impression of relief carvings and shallow grooves where you could run your fingers along the channels, instead of extremely tight tolerances and perfect-fit metal. the needler especially looks very different. everything else in this perfect, and it's great to see you finally do what you've been chronicling that halo studios haven't/won't
