Hi Peter. I’ve made a bunch of dandelion spheres and the thing that kept the seeds intact was ordinary hairspray. As for preventing the lopsidedness, I shoved a toothpick into the tubelike stem to stiffen it, and then used a clothespin to hold it in place as it rested across the opening of the sphere mold (I don’t have fancy-shmancy turning equipment like you do). Of course, I worked with standard-sized dandelions and smaller spheres, so you may have needed to use thicker toothpicks/wooden rods to stiffen the stem of a giant dandelion.

Did you manage to seal the end where the stem is? I would be worried about it starting to decompose through there

I think the next project should be an absurdly large shift knob for a car or truck.

Should built a base for it with a programmable light (like you show near the end) and gift it to your neighbour.

I wonder if you could somehow make a resin spray (would need a rather runny resin and a spray bottle for paint I guess, something thicker than water). Cause I think that would be the best thing for objects like this (feather, fur, dandelions, etc.). Make then rigid in place with minimal aggression, or at least make it... rigider? rigider? Make it more rigid; and less fragile, mobile and flexible.

Now you need to try the Rupert's drop in resin experiment that smarter everyday did.

Salsify makes a wonderful dandelion wine, but you have to catch it before the flowering body appears

I thought were you supposed to spray/lightly dust dandelions with hairspray prior to dunking them in resin?

Are you able to make a bowling ball filled with golf balls? Drill the finger holes. Then use it in a bowling alley.

How bad does resin smell while on the lathe? I know wood smells pretty foul if you go too deep to fast with the tool.
