  • This 1949 Chrysler Town & Country is one of fewer than 1,000 convertibles built for the model year. Power comes from a 323ci Spitfire straight-eight paired with a Fluid Drive semi-automatic transmission. Equipment includes a tan soft top, ash wood body trim with Di-Noc woodgrain panels, hubcaps, whitewall tires, a heater, and a push-button AM radio. The Chrysler lineup received its first postwar restyling for 1949 to commemorate the marque’s 25th anniversary, and the New Yorker-based Town & Country was offered exclusively as a convertible. Painted steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are mounted with Denman bias-ply whitewall tires. A matching spare wheel is stowed in the trunk. The Town & Country rode on a 131.5″ wheelbase and featured an independent front suspension with coil springs as well as a live rear axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs. Braking is provided by hydraulic drums at all four wheels. The 323.5ci Spitfire straight-eight was factory rated at 135 horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted four-speed Fluid Drive semi-automatic transmission.
