This talk helps me so much when I feel overwhelmed about the current atrocities going on. I can do one thing at a time, and not feel guilty for being human. Self care IS radical, when it prepares you for community care.

Share more about radical self care. Please. Organizers need this now. Can you offer some sort of online/free, easy-to-access resource for Black people right now. We’re tired and hurting right now, and it’s much worse for organizers/activists. Think about it..

Please consider removing the title of a radical to practicing self-care.
Since 2005 I work correctly with the department of corrections and department of corrections and parole / probation departments in Los Angeles county. in early 2000 I was almost in downtown LA addicted to drugs and alcohol.
      Fundamentals of so-called radical self-care. I. E. Mindfully looking after yourself and taking care of yourself first;
      1. Practice, forgiving those who are angry and resentful towards. Forgiveness is the tool of choice when it comes to learning to be a emotionally resilient person.
      2. Practice the principles that are taught in the Bible, especially the book of Proverbs.
Learn to apply and be ; prudent, regulate the emotions, learn to check your egos toxic destruction to your soul, learn to practice unconditional love.
      3. IRL in real life learn to apply and live the serenity prayer - God grant me this rainy to accept the things I cannot change, careers to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
Practicing the Serenity prayer is the path to joy.
      4. Eliminate; alcohol, nicotine, weed weed and drugs consumption. If physically dependent on the above mine altering substances go to treatment and get on the path to becoming rehabilitated.
A mind / brain dependent on mine altering substances is crippled and cannot function at the proper level.
      5. Turn your TV off, turn your social media off; mindfully change your food intake to regular consumption of whole foods - eliminating most processed foods.
Combine the dietary changes with; outdoor aerobic exercising walking running cycling etc.
The truth, The whole truth about self-care is that when the body is healthy, when the mind is healthy we will then tend to pursue a lifestyle and way of life that includes pursuing joy and positive activities as a primary pursuit.
Yesterday, I rode my bike 55 miles volunteered on the suicide prevention hotline.
Today part of my self-care and mindfulness regimen includes fulfilling volunteering and doing my civic responsibilities on a regular basis

Thank you for this analysis. I had the honor of co-facilitating a forum with Beother Eddie Conway. He mentioned his retrospective regret for not having recognized the importance of overall wellbeing as a part of the 🎉fight for liberation. It was very insightful.

Just watched the Angela Davis take on self care. I'm at @2:46 seconds - The truth is adding the word "radical" to the "self-care title/narrative/discussion" is unnecessary.
Why? There's nothing radical about looking after yourself and taking care of yourself first. Living a life of intentional moderation; being responsible to yourself + being prudent by pursuing self-care through consuming high quality food, Getting adequate sleep and rest, avoiding drama, healing emotional wounds by applying forgiveness, tolerance acceptance and unconditional love, regular vigor ous outdoor exercise, etc. The exact opposite of rap /hip-hop segment of culture that emphasizes party, sex, taking advantage of women, materialistic pursuit and creating digital art in the studio.
Angela Davis and this remarkable woman are the embodiment and evidence how a healthy body and a healthy mind (healed emotional wounds) create synergy of the brain, ego/emotion and body working together.
Compare the emotional state of a black rapper vs black professional athlete / educator/ social worker, etc - night and day difference in emotional resiliency and capacity for reasoning.

Interesting....thanks for sharing your perspective. Radical means (especially of change or action) relating to or affecting the fundamental nature of something; far-reaching or thorough. I think the fundamental nature of the way we go about self care should improve. Should be radically different from how we go about it now.

First and foremost your post supports a poorly developed bias based on your personal beliefs. Beliefs are not facts. Supplying us with an easy, breezy approach (avoiding drama) for instance to self
      care is simply not enough.
Drama HOW and where precisely. That's part of the reason the term was initially coined, to get to the 'inner self' or shadow work so often overlooked in the black community.
We need to actually PINPOINT precisely what drama means from toxic situations at work, sexism, racism, issues with abusive or unhealthy partners, conflict within families which is a HUGE problem, setting boundaries and understanding just what that means throughout our ENTIRE lives, not just once in a while, learning to express ourselves openly and honestly without any expectation for anyone's approval and knowing who we are as individuals, not the programming thrust upon us from society, the media, our pastor OR even our parents.
In addition, may ask just HOW many rappers do you know? Blackbrappers that is. How many black athletes. How many of the aforementioned have you treated as a physician, therapist, chef, holistic practicioner, spiritual advisor or trainer?
Why are you using these 2 professions as a template to pit one against the other? Why do you think that your preconceived notions about any group of people gives you the right to quantify their mere existence.
And you use the term 'rap' as if every black rapper shares the same politics, voting record, brain and kidneys. They are different and diverse. Nas, Chuck D (the best mc of all time in my opinion) 50 cents, Jay z, Dr Dre ALL markedly different yet you lump them all and others into one big category to prove what precisely?
And to add insult to injury your post suggests that rap music is what's wrong with the world. Not sex and human trafficking, meat markets, factory farming, global warming, or any other ills.
To me your post was divisive and did little to nothing to promote self care in any capacity.

@@sobersherpa it's very wild that a black woman in a patriarchal racist Society could ever become successful, she must be the only one, or perhaps her ideologies are aligned with a deeper political agenda.
