    Can I just point out that their volumetric cloud tech doesn't have the issue of bleeding into the ship? I'm just noticing that, and that's pretty impressive to have gotten right on the first try. I certainly don't ever remember it being an issue.

      I’ve never noticed that. Even though it’s been in development for so long, it’s still impressive the amount of tech that has been developed and refined in their game.

      So having an occlusion inside the ship interior is not that hard. It’s like a mask layer, the entire ship is textured with shaders and it’s cheap too

    It's nice to see that they're focusing on planetside missions that may take you to various locations in a certain region. It would actually give me a reason to bring my Pulse or Dragonfly along for explorations.

      @@Bubblegum_Ronin There's still a lot of work to be done on all the vehicles. The collision is still rough as hell, I'm too afraid to park it in a decent sized vehicle like the Cutty because that did not go well the first time I tried. Does just fine in my C1 but still annoying that if you don't cut the engines when you get off the bike, it just floats up. But so far it hasn't randomly exploded while parked in the ship.

    I imagine we will see a lot less of those markers once we actually have FPS scanning in the game. I imagine this is just a holdover so that we actually know what to shoot for now.

    The eliminate targets need to stay, until we have reliable spawns otherwise its almost impossible to complete these missions

      Yeah and then more people are actually incentivised to upvote the IC ticket and they actually fix the issue rather than leaving it for years because people are fine with living with the bad workaround. The markers shouldn't be a band-aid for crappy mechanics.

    Markers on enemy locations is going to be tied into the FPS scanning mechanic, where you will need a combat helmet capable of doing that, and then you will get limited-time pings on enemy locations that are both close enough to you and emitting enough IR or EM to pick up (ie not wearing a stealth-specific armor set).

    The markers showing the enemy location can be helpful when that last enemy is hiding in the wall or underground so you know that you can never get to them. I'm ok with a toggle to hide the markers.

    I am confident that the yellow UI markers are a placeholder for using helmet scan to detect the targets just like tab scanning in your ship

    Pyro just looks so awesome and the soundtrack is amazing from the bits I've heard as well. I know there will be issues when this goes to Live but I'm very much hoping we don't get stuck without a decent patch over the holidays.

    i agree .. these markers should only appear after you got close enough to actually see the target ... everything before that should just show the area to investigate (maybe with increasing accuracy to avoid missions being abandoned for the inability to find the last target).

    I could only get a few of the investigation missions to Accept, and they were still broken and didn't spawn in anything. Hopefully all of these locations will have a lot more NPC's because right now it's still feels pretty empty. Other than that, Pyro locations look spectacular, they even improved/increased the lighting inside the stations which was literally hurting my eyes before this patch.

    omg I hope so hard they pull this off, I know we're wretched pre-alpha testers (and it's all our fault we paid and blahblahblah and it's a rightfully terrible experience blahblahblah), but man, a stable experience for once would help everybody, attract more backers, turn funding around etc. Right? Delete broken missions, create a robust set of new ones, make it as stable as you can. Has to be possible, come on!

      Its not that it isnt possible, but its in the nature of softwaredevelopment that interwined functions will react to new implementations and expansions of code.
      Therefore it only make sense to do the "polishing and bugfixing" at the very last, when no more mayor code needs to be added.
      The polishing they do for 4.0 is only done because it is a playable (!) alpha and player wont fund the game If its unplayable.. From a development point of view tho its a very large waste of time (and therefore money).
      Of course, bug-creep is a thing so its not only harmfull.
      But I think its important that you know that 4.1 or 4.2 will be the same old bugfest no matter how much they polish 4.0

      @@NotUnymous Makes total sense under normal circumstances. I personally don't need a polished alpha at all, I can have fun driven by morbid curiosity: I used to play Half-Life 2 and Stalker 1 pre-alphas 20 years ago. It's just that the unique circumstances of this project would benefit from the occasional "get in, it's great!" moments to drive further funding imo. The bug creep is already rampant, there are nearly ten-year old package delivery bugs that were covered up with "cargo empire" plaster, but are very much part of the museum of broken stuff in the game. I don't need them to fix packages, but why not make this inaccessible for the time being if it's gonna rot for another few years anyway? More than likely there's nothing more to be tested about that mission type and all issues have been reported a hundred times over.

    I'm quite sad to hear that server FPS is still low on a relatively small group of wave 1 testers (compared to the much bigger group the game will have on Live).
    Server meshing is aside from Pyro the main feat of this 4.0 update, and server FPS is one of the biggest issues that Live servers currently have. Assuming they are still gonna push this live before Christmas, and they've postponed majority of 4.0 features to focus on this, that's rather... disappointing to say the least. It's been a work in progress for so long already.

      I think their intent in the future is to provide info in helmets depending on the helmet type and capability, I think some specialised helmets will have this functionality and others won’t but that remains to be seen. I also agree that for the time being it at least helps with the bugs we get.

    If they can get it out by mid-month (Dec 15th or so), cool. If they can't, I hope they wait until after the break. I'd like them to have some time to do additional fixes after launch. Mainly because, if it's broken going into the break, it'll be broken for the duration of the break.

    I want 4.0 as well, but I want it to be stable and not rushed to live before christmas. If they rush it out, and it breaks, no one would be around to work on it.

      @ they literally don’t if you actually play the game you would know on the website it mentions it is in active development, when you purchase the game you agree to and accept that the game is not yet finished, and on the rsi launcher it also explicitly says the game is a working in progress. Not one time have they ever said the game is fully working, to say there is a proof of concept you can play is true because I play and so do thousands everyday. If you are complaining about bugs or an incomplete game you’re literally as dumb as they come.

    I'm pretty sure I can tell you what happened with the server FPS. I was on the other night and we had 233 people on one server, with a little over 300 on the shard. Everyone is in pyro.

      Gameplay loop wise. I think just some simple repairman missions. It'll probably just be most of what we have now. Other than that, server meshing and planets+clouds.

      @@tommeegunn9318 The new system isn’t really bringing anything new to the game. Just more empty planets that we can continue doing the same repetitive missions we do now. Where is the new interesting gameplay, engineering, storylines, base building, interesting quests, ship building, etc? The actual things most of us have been waiting on for many years. It doesn’t matter if there are 100 systems, if they are mostly empty, uninteresting systems.

    Totally agree about the FPS markers. Makes it completely mindless, I don't get how there is any fun in "go here, shoot at marker that you can see through walls and floors then leave and repeat". It's an absolute trash tier FPS experience. People should not be advocating for them to keep them just as a band-aid for crappy mechanics. All that does is removes the incentive for people to actually contribute to the IC and the issues never get properly addressed because the markers are making it just painless enough that they are happy to live with it.

    Management will likely push dev team to release 4.0 in Dec, but I think they will eventually move it to Feb.
    If it's not perfect on PTU (and it's FAR from perfect on PTU) - it will be another 3.18 disaster on live.

    Comparing specs from the PC you have in your desc, mine shouldn't be so jittery when playing. Do you overclock for SC or is the PTU that much more optimized than live?

      Currently, the pu is really unoptimised. My friend has a relitively low end PC and used to be able to run the PU fine before the new MFD's patch, but now he gets 10fps and can't even get out of NewBabage without a crash.
      I've let him log into my account to try 4.0 EPTU to see if there is a difference. I'm on a monster of a PC and this EPTU patch has been great. However, I'm also pissed because they have updated the price for the torpedos and now it cost 3mil to rearm the torpedos in the Polaris (and no, reclaiming the ship dosen't work, you get it back unarmed).

    I gave up on this video when I Saw you flying that disappointingly Ugly Ugly ship. I thought a bigger gun could save the ship. But CIG should just remove the gun and call it a stealth snub. Craft.

    The UI team is so terrible. They still cant figure out how to make just a simple 2d marker for things that doesn't completely cover your screen and flicker all over constantly. Why the hell are so many UI elements rendered in 3D??? It only needs to be simple and convey information clearly. Thats all.

      Having it set as an option doesn't work. The game has competitive elements, and the competitive side of things will dictate that everyone uses the most efficient option. Magic markers will be the most efficient. Period.

    It was the worst patch yet they fixed elevators and broke doors. Desync / frame rates still has ground pvp completely unplayable which is about 99% of the pyro content. Flying around Bobbing screen caps for reddit at 20 fps must be your bench mark for quality.
