For snuff I prefer the studio version. While it doesn't have quite as much raw vocal power, I believe the intensity of the instruments ramping up over the song contribute pretty nicely.
Definitely agree. The acoustic version definitely has its own elements that give it its own life but the buildup of the studio version just grabs you by the soul. Also, to me, the acoustic version has to be the video. Just hearing the audio isn't the same as watching the video and seeing the emotion in Corey's face.
@@efcdk92 I think it’s because they have no point of reference like we do and have absolutely no idea what they’re listening to. They don’t have the entire history of rock music in their memory. So they over rely on genres to try to ground and reference. Most of the time they’re completely wrong though, like thinking a quintessential 80s song is 60s lol
I prefer the acoustic version with just Corey Taylor, the raw emotion in that live version is just beautiful and gives me goosebumps every time, but both are great. If I may recommend a song or two, you two should check out Vermilion and Vermilion Pt. 2 by Slipknot.
I like the acoustic version, but only after having heard this one first. I find this one more hard hitting but it may be because of the video with it. Although I actually first heard it on the album.
Corey’s vocal choices in the acoustic version fit so much better and aren’t over produced into obscurity like the studio version. This song is a pulsating swell of rage and despair, which is reflected in the nuanced vocals in the live version. The studio version uses the instrumentation to project that pulse of a instrumentation, which has sounds great.. but isn’t as effective as the acoustic vocals.
Story of the versions Corey wrote the bones of this song but thought it a bit soft for the Knot, its a song about the rejection of a friend he thought would become more that hurt him deeply He was encouraged to develop it in the band, and he worked closely with his great friend in the band Paul Gray and they say lyrically its amongst their heavier/darker songs Sadly after the album release Paul died due to complications with heart meds, that nearly ended Slipknot (around 2010 I think) such was their grief - they unmasked for the first time the day after he died. Corey now sings the song accoustic in his solo and CMFT tours, and he dedicates the song to Paul as some of the words in the original can be interpreted that way - he often struggles to sing through it, especially the lines 'I only wish you werent my friend, so I could hurt you in the end...' Both amazing versions of a brilliant piece of songwriting - the official video (produced and directed by Clown/Shawn Crahan) is bloody brilliant too! Sorry for the long post 😁🤘🤘
All true except, "complications with heart meds"... call it what it is, dude.. He overdosed in a hotel room less than 10 miles from his family!! And the truth of his situation is MUCH MORE powerful than any excuses!! NO MATTER what you have, your demons are always there!

Both have great qualities. The acoustic shows the emotion behind it and how somber of a song it is yet the instruments and atmospheric effects in the studio make it very powerful in a different way to the power of the acoustic. Just shows how great of a song this really is.
I first heard this song about a week after my first wife passed away (in my arms literally) and it along with a couple of others, So far away- Avenged Sevenfold And I Remember Everything - Five Finger Death Punch Really helped me cope with it.
I get a good laugh when people find out that corey taylor is the same singer from slipknot cause of how different this is from other slipknot songs. Vermillion part 2 gives the same reaction and almost same vibes.
I much prefer this version simply because it's not the same without that instrumental crescendo that Lex was waiting for. This song cuts so deep for me that I rarely listen to it..
OF COURSE GOING THROUGH THE TRACKS FROM BEGINNING TO THE END WHEN I FIRST HEARD THAT "ACOUSTIC GUITAR" IN THE TRACK I THOUGHT "OK THIS IS REALLY DIFFERENT" AND AS THE SONG GREW AND IT BUILD UP I WAS BLOWN AWAY ENDED UP BEING IN MY TOP 3 FAVORITE SONG OF THIS ALBUM "ALL HOPE IS GONE" THIS WAS THE SECOND TO LAST SONG BACK IN 2OO8 WHEN IT WAS STILL REALLY TRULY THE SOUND OF SLIPKNOT ❤ THAT I FELL IN LO❤E WITH 1O YEARS BEFORE THAT AT SOME POINT IN LIFE "EVERYONE CAN RELATE TO THIS HEART 💔 BREAKING DOWN SONG"
Dear Brad and Lex, you are two rays of sunshine in this world filled with darkness. Thanks for doing what you guys are doing. It's adorable. Now here's a challenge for you: Listen to "Keeper of the Seven Keys" by German band Helloween (yes...it's with "e"). A spectacular thirteen-minute adventure. Ah...there's still a nice bonus...Michael Kiske...one of the greatest singers in history. Again, you guys are amazing. Follow your path with your heart...you can't go wrong !! Kisses from Brazil !!
It's a fantastic song I love how it builds up starting g with the cheap acoustic sound then just builds from that and Cory's vocals are great the melody is amazing great song it's a very dark song
Still remember that episode when Corey got the tattoo of paul I turned the volume to the TV down and played snuff. It was beautifully perfect in my eyes
I rarely watch music reviews, but I really enjoy watching you two. Mostly because your picks are almost always great. But. Also just the way you seem to enjoy the same type of music I do. Much love, and respect. Subbing up right now. 👍🤙✌
When I first heard this song I thought it was a Stone Sour song his other band at the time. I think I read in an interview he said he was hesitant about bring this song to the band cause it was a soft song and not their normal sound but they were all for it.
I like both, but the Acoustic Live version is more powerful to me as you can hear and feel the pain in his voice a lot more without having the distractions of other sounds in the background. The Live Acoustic version is the best!
This song comes from the same album that has another Slipknot hit called Psychosocial, All Hope Is Gone (2008). I like both songs, as well as The Devil in I, Duality, and Wait and Bleed, but Snuff is my favorite of theirs by far.
Glad ya'll are checking out the video, but the Corey acoustic has more emotional impact!!!! Fantastic as always!!! And Lex is almost always on point in every video!!! 😉❤✌🏼
The acoustic version he's the raw emotion. Corey would break down singing and the crowd would take over. You could really feel it. Especially after Paul died. It was written originally about a woman in his life that wasn't returned. Since Paul helped him with this song and pushed him to release it, when he died, Corey dedicated it to him. Corey has stated if Paul didn't push him, he wouldn't have released it. RIP Paul and now Joey 🤘🤘🤘
Seriously, you don't need to do a reaction to it but check out the official video for this song. It has a cameo by Malcolm McDowell and takes the mini-movie route. The song is actually about obsession even after the breakup because if she did "ever let him know" he would not be able to stop himself from getting back together with her, regardless of the pain she put him through. This song was originally written about an ugly divorce he went through. As if divorce can be anything but; I understand, but this was his 2nd wife and she got downright vindictive and hurtful with the circumstances and afterwards he still wanted her back.
IK it’s weird, but I almost tear up everytime I hear this song because it reminds me of my beautiful blond pit bull I had. She got ran over around the time this song came out. RIP Mia.
If you could see my TH-cam history you’d literally see Corey Taylor’s live video of this song 2 videos ahead of you. As for an answer to which is better, hands down Corey’s live version is the BEST in my opinion.
This version is definitely better. This is the song that got me into slipknot. I just saw them for the first time last saturday. I love them so much. Ive never been so happy that a band existed

There's no bad version of Snuff. It's a fantastic song.
Amen to that!
But there is a best version, Corey Taylor live in London was just too epic !
Slipknots Vermillion(original) and Vermillion part 2 (which is the all acoustic softer version) Should certainly give them both a reaction! (:
They should do both VIDEO versions. The visuals are on point.

Corey’s so talented whether it’s going heavy and screaming with Slipknot or showing off the softer more classical/traditional voice of his.
