You can't ask for a better weekend that watching a beautiful French girl listening to The Everly Brothers ' All I Have To Do Is Dream '.. So love your reaction..
Another great Everly Brothers song, and maybe my favorite, is Let It Be Me. Many of their songs have been covered, by some very famous people, over the years. These guys were the real deal. Very nice reaction, Marie.
I was born in 1953 and I remember this song being played a lot in the mid-60s, and early 70s. I didn't realize it was so old at that time. You took me back to my teen years with this song-- I remember this as one of the songs I listened to and sang along to, and I often put on a few records on my stereo, including this one, to help me drift off to sleep pleasantly. I agree, there is much amazingly wonderful music these days, but it is good also to remember gems (you prounounced it correctly) from the past . One of the ways for that to happen is for singers of today to cover these golden oldies and re-interpret them That is one of the great things about Angelina Jordan-- she is covering songs from even the 1920s and 30s and making them relevant for today. Thanks for another wonderful reaction! (Now you've got me curious to learn more about the Everly Brothers-- they do have a very strong family resemblance!). All the best!
I was in High School, 10th-12th grade at the time this was popular in Iowa, USA. Tthey grew up in Waterloo, Iowa which is only an hour drive or maybe a bit more from where I still live. This brings back many memories of High School Dances usually held in the HS cafeteria from 7:00 or 8:00pm to 10:00 or 11:00pm. Some of us couldn't dance very well, others would take the spotlight on any stage! Thanks for sharing this reaction!
The guitars are signature model Gibson Everlys with the distinctive double pick guards. They are now popular collector instruments and quite valuable. There are many sweet ballads like this one from the 50's and 60's. Just skim the charts.
You are right it is a shame we don't have more music like this today, i grew up through the 60's 70's and 80's all good but so different but i think 50's and 60's were the best music
The "sweet spot" was a period of time I call "the Elvis era." Elvis' career ran from his first recording in 1954 through 1977. During that 23 years, we got A LOT of the best music ever produced.
In listening to your comments about not knowing anything about many of the popular singers of the 50's and 60's I offer my humble opinion. The music of this era is now 55-65 years old. People who are in positions of higher management of radio systems are also now too young to remember these songs. And general music tastes have changed over the years. There used to be a variety of radio stations in the USA that specialized in what was called "Oldies." Now they are all gone, except for Sirius Radio. If it wasn't for TH-cam and its huge audience, many of these songs would fade into oblivion. All we could do is play our recordings and listen as individuals. TH-cam allows us to identify the songs we have loved for decades to a new young audience (you, Marie). Please consider the songs listed in the comments. Merci. Regards from the USA.
Yeah, if you listen to their studio recordings you'll notice the quality of their songs. Especially with your headphones on. They even sounded great with an old AM transister radio growing up in the late fifties and sixties. Love your reactions.
Bonjour Marie! Paul McCartney has said that when he and John Lennon started The Beatles that they both always wished they could harmonize like the Everly Brothers who they felt had the best vocal harmonies ever recorded. Paul paid tribute to them when he included their names, (Phil and Don) in the song Let Em In by his other band called Wings, and he wrote a song for them that they recorded back in the 1980s. Merci d'avoir réagi à ce classique! ~Be Blessed
I read part of Graham Nash’s autobiography and he also said they were hugely influential on him and Allen Clark when they formed The Hollies. They actually met Phil and Don standing outside the local club where they were performing when the guys stepped out for a smoke after sound check and got to talk to them for ten or fifteen minutes. It was the highlight of their youth.
I am so glad that you are discovering and loving these older songs. I had the great privilege of getting to see The Everly Brothers perform live in Dublin back in 1985. Even though by then they were older, middle aged men, they sounded as sharp and as sweet as they ever had. When siblings harmonise, you get a rare melding of sound that you don't get with people who are not related.
The Everly's were big in the 50's and early 60's. They had many great songs and hits. Their harmonies were unequaled. The Beatles were big fans of the Everly's. They loved their harmonies, and that is why many Beatles songs have beautiful harmonies too. Here in the US, as I'm sure in other parts of the world we have Sirius satellite radio which has stations dedicated to different decades of music. There is Ch5 for 50's music, Ch6 for 60's music, Ch7 for 70's music, and of course channel 18...The Beatles channel. So we can listen to all the oldies whenever we want. I have heard several people reacting to music that have made comments that today's music does not compare to the older music, and I'm inclined to agree. One more thing, I love that you have the Texas flag behind you. I'm here in San Antonio Texas, and I love my state! Best state in the union! Love you too. Keep up the great work.
I watched this performance on TV when I was eight years old. They still sound great. It was a joy to see you experience them for the first time. They had a lot of songs you would enjoy. Thanks!
Good reaction. Thanks for the memories. The Everly Brothers were one of my favorites when I as growing up in the 50s and 60s and I still listen to them today. Great harmonies!
I got to love them when I was 12, in 1958. I became a life-long fan. In those days, all of us wanted to have a hairstyle like that. So we used Brylcream or Wildroot Cream Oil. "Brylcream, a little dab 'll do ya."🎵 "Use Wildroot Cream Oil, Charlie."🎶
OMG! I was 8 years old when I first heard this. My older sister was completely in love with them. Another artist from that era you should listen to is Bobby Darrin. There are radio stations here in the U. S. that play these 'oldies'.
The Everly Brothers were the first rock group to sign a recording contract for one million dollars. They left their manager of that time who in turn cut them off from his writers who had written all of their hits up to then. So they left Nashville and moved to LA with a new contract and no new songs. They wrote a song called Cathy's Clown. It went to #1 and is my favorite Everly Bros. song.
It's so sad that we don't hear this beautiful music anymore ... I'm from Sydney, Australia and fortunately we have a digital radio station here called 2CH and they play all the oldies 24/7
The Everly's got their start at the radio station KMA in Shenandoah Iowa about 20 mi from where I live. There is actually a street there named Everly Avenue in their honor. KMA is one of the oldest stations in the US and is still on the air.
Phil is on the left as you look at them and Don on the right. The video is from 1960 and is a television appearance during their first tour of the UK. The 3 musicians in the picture backing the Everlys are a famous 50s pop group in their own right called The Crickets. Their most famous member had been Buddy Holly who, unfortunately, died in 1959. The Crickets seen in the video are, from the left, Joe B Mauldin, Jerry Allison (on drums) and Sonny Curtis. Also look how neatly pop singers dressed in those days - sharp suits and ties. Sonny Curtis wrote one of the Everlys' most famous hits of the 60s called Walk Right Back.

My dear....I love your videos. No, we do not hear this on radio today. Only TH-cam. And with special TH-camrs like you. You are so smart and kind and sensitive.
Yes, their harmony is unique and instantly recognizable. I'd say the quality of their blend is partly because they're actual brothers and have some of the same genes, and partly because they grew up singing from the get-go. Their father, Ike Everly, was also a Country singer/guitarist. The arrangement of their harmonies is a separate component of the success. Many of their hit songs were written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant. A lot of the lyrics rhyme in the middle of phrases, as well as at the end. So that's high-quality stuff that many people would only notice on an unconscious level. And the arrangements (I don't know who decided on them) use a mix of Third and Fifth intervals, whereas a lot of song arrangements for duos pretty much use only Thirds. Many artists, even The Beatles, took note of that and tried to imitate it. They did some up-tempo stuff. Some songs (such as "Bird Dog") even have humorous lyrics. But I believe they were at their best when doing slow, sad love songs. My favorite is "Cryin' In the Rain" (written by Carole King and Howard Greenfield).
No lip sync or auto tune until the last decade or so. From the 80's back it was all up to your vocals and many of the hits were live. Very cool. Let me know when you get a package from Oklahoma Sis.
God this brings back alot of memories, I was 8 yrs old then but it's still clear in my head, I call them a crooner duo. They were one of the best groups of the day. They had a number of hits. Even yrs after this release they were played alot on the radio. Used to listen with girlfriend (wife now) at Drive Ins or just cruising. Thx FT :)
My first ever concert was the Everly Brothers with my grandmother when I was really young, still one of my favorite memories. Great reaction :) EDIT: I have this song on vinyl and its so nostalgic hearing it now.
Many artists were influenced by the Everly Brothers in the 50s and 60s . With Valentines day coming up , you should listen to their "Let it be Me", very romantic song and your reaction to it would serve to introduce it to a lot of new people. I always love to see young people discover what we old folks consider real music! I have seen quiet a few reactors pose the same question as you as to why we don't hear this kind of songs anymore. loved your reaction-score another one for Romance.
I completely understand your style of music, because I love the same style. The Everly Brothers are actually my favorite artist of all time. I’m only 13, and I absolutely adore them. I’m so glad I’m not the only young one in our generation who likes oldies/the everlys. (and they are handsome!)
Hi Marie. You talking about not hearing the music of those years today. Well, you go into just about any mall, grocery or large store in the United States you will hear music of that time period. Not necessarily of the 1950's but most play the music of some of the 1960's, but mostly the 70's and 80's. In the Southern United States where I live they do anyway.
Marie, what a beautiful reaction 😍♥ I love watching your facial expressions when you're watching a video that you like 👍😄 I also like it when you discover things that aren't mainstream 😘😗
Bellamy Brothers is another group of brothers! Let your Love flow, Do you love as good as you look, Lovers live longer, Reggae cowboy! Just a few of them! Stay safe!
It's no wonder this song was on the charts for so long... it's the very definition of an "earworm". Lovely choice for a reaction (even the antique video.)
One song of theirs that wowed me probably wasn't as big of a hit as others mentioned in the comments was called "Poor Jenny"! I also loved their rendition of "Take A Message To Mary". Love all your reactions!
i love your innocent takes. if you were going to make a movie or t.v. show set in the 50s-early 60s it would have at least 1-2 of their songs in the sound track... i.e. Happy Days ( t.v. series w/a young Ron Howard)
And, of course, their saddest song, Ebony Eyes. You can't help but shed a tear when you listen to it. Several artists would sing these "tragedy" songs back in the day. Tell Laura I love her by Ray Peterson. Last Kiss by J. Frank Wilson.
New subscriber I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm only 35 but I love this old music I grew up listening to this kind of music with my mother and grandmother brings back happy memories.
Hi Marie, This is really interesting you found these guys They had great career and I believe one passed away in 2014. A couple of things. Many of there songs were made ino hits by other artist in later years . I think of songs like " love Hurts ( famous by Nazareth Z) "When will I be loved ( LInda Ronstadt ) .Song I never knew were written by them or written by them team. In their later career, they got into an argument and did not even speak or perform together for 10 years I guess ? I always thought that was interesting. So many of their songs went on to be hits by other artists. They are sort of unknow by the younger people today. They had over 20 number 1 hits i believe and many , many other artists made hits with their songs. They were a major source of songs and less is knows about them as this was back in the 50' thru the 70's when they were most famous. If you Google their songs. you will be surprised at how many you actually know.
My moms generation of rock. My era was 70's and 80's rock ie led zeppelin, black sabbath, judas priest, iron maiden, ac/dc, Ozzy, Dio, Rush, boston, triumph to name just a few.
It's not because you are in France that you don't hear this kind of music. It is just not done like this anymore - we are in an era for hard sounding and angry music (if you can call some of it that). I am so glad that you and so many other young people are using TH-cam and other media to discover these lost treasures and maybe someone will revive this sound for future generations.
I totally agree on the lost treasures ! I grew up in that era , and it sure is nice that some people are bringing it back to life , even if it is only for a short time .
I think the harmonies of the Everly Brothers were the harmonies that all other harmonies after them were measured by. They set the bar. Good reaction.
Yes byebye love. Dont worry( with the beach boys)
Crying in the rain. Other great hits
The Louvin Brothers were idols of theirs. I don't know who the idols were for The Louvin Brothers.
These guys influenced literally everyone. They were the 'rock and roll' duo parents actually 'approved and allowed' their kids to listen to. The Beatles to Simon and Garfunkel to The Beach Boys and on and on, ad infinitum. Even Mark Knopfler wrote the song 'Why Worry' expressly for them. It's well worth a listen, those sublime harmonies are magical.

This is the best performance. The single is very good but the live sound of just their voices and the guitar is pure.
This is one of my Karaoke favourites!
Sibling harmony is amazing! Thank you from Virginia, USA
just absolutely love this song , would pull out my parents 45 record and play it all the time as a kid
Thx FT :)
I think we all wish we were in these times again.i grew up in seventies, longed for a sweeter romantic time .
No harmony like family! Sounds like 1 voice at times. Ledgens in music. Love that you learn about the artists you show.smart! Dan fl🤓🌹
A nice classic!
Marie, what a beautiful reaction 😍♥ I love watching your facial expressions when you're watching a video that you like 👍😄 I also like it when you discover things that aren't mainstream 😘😗
Not mainstream? Well, just one of their hits sold 8 million copies and they were the inspiration for so many of the huge groups of the 60s.
Even Willie Nelson, back then, wore a suit and tie!
Bellamy Brothers is another group of brothers! Let your Love flow, Do you love as good as you look, Lovers live longer, Reggae cowboy! Just a few of them! Stay safe!
We have these songs playing on oldie stations on XM, but not on contemporary radio stations. You are right, music then had a pure or innocent sound.👍
The Everly Brothers had such a beautiful sound. I agree with others listen to Let it be me. Love John xx
Try Cathy's Clown...Bye Bye Love
2 more Excellent choices for Miss Marie
And Get 2 Thumbs up from me ! 😄😄
Lovely song. Easy to play on the guitar too.
It's no wonder this song was on the charts for so long... it's the very definition of an "earworm". Lovely choice for a reaction (even the antique video.)
This was my mom's favorite song. I remember listening to it on am radio.
One song of theirs that wowed me probably wasn't as big of a hit as others mentioned in the comments was called "Poor Jenny"! I also loved their rendition of "Take A Message To Mary". Love all your reactions!
They are really good, Marie... listen to their music, you'll like it. LOVE YOU, MARIE!!!!!
i love your innocent takes. if you were going to make a movie or t.v. show set in the 50s-early 60s it would have at least 1-2 of their songs in the sound track... i.e. Happy Days ( t.v. series w/a young Ron Howard)
Real music!
THIS is what we caled in those days MUSIC......!! :-)
That was the hairstyle back then. If you look at pictures of Elvis back in the 50"s and 60"s he wore his hair like that.
Next try Wake up, Little Suzie!
And, of course, their saddest song, Ebony Eyes. You can't help but shed a tear when you listen to it. Several artists would sing these "tragedy" songs back in the day. Tell Laura I love her by Ray Peterson. Last Kiss by J. Frank Wilson.
They were Marine Reservists. My name is Phil and my buddy in the Marines was Don, so we were always called the Everly Brothers.
LOL. That's great. I love that.
Lovely reaction! Here are a few suggestions for exploring the Everly’s: Bye bye love, Cathy’s Clown, Walk Right Back and Wake up little Suzy. Enjoy
Are they great or what! Can you see the influence they had on the Beatles, and many of the British Invasion Groups! Epic performers!! 😎👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I first heard these guys when I was a 7 year-old in 1958. I have been a massive fan ever since.
So many wonderful songs by them. Don't Blame Me, Stick With Me Baby, and Claudette are just a few.
My moms generation of rock. My era was 70's and 80's rock ie led zeppelin, black sabbath, judas priest, iron maiden, ac/dc, Ozzy, Dio, Rush, boston, triumph to name just a few.
Love the Everly Brothers.
Right on! It's up to young women to decide what they want to hear from young male singers...and tell them!
I totally agree on the lost treasures ! I grew up in that era , and it sure is nice that some people are bringing it back to life , even if it is only for a short time .
I only heard this music because my Dad listened to them. He told me stories like how he saw them practicing once growing up in Kentucky.
