also I am 55 yrs old now working harder than I ever did in my life for less money and I love every second of it :) planning to do this for 20 more years if I can
It’s like watching the news… 😔 They lead off with the top story then go into a bunch of job jab then 10 mins in you get a little bit more then you finally get to the meat of the story.. The one thing you can guarantee is that Dave will say the word golf club at least a few times during each video 😉
Glad to hear it worked out for you. Having someone help you here and there is a good thing. I sometimes work a bit in the morning and then have coffee with a friend and then I'm back to it. Nice sales
A good rule of thumb is if your business is healthy, you should be able to alot at least 10% of gross sales to grow the business. Whether that be helper or actual employee. I am up to 4 part time helpers now and there are weeks where i work less than 10hrs and other weeks I work 30.
I have a guy that test my electronics, game console, etc. He picks up a tub full and cleans them, tests, and writes a information note for each item. He works at his own pace I pay him per item he tests. $10 per console, $1.50 controller, etc.
Hello Dave. I have a full time shipper. I have one lister that works 3 days a week and I list everyday. I work 12 hours everyday as well. You need plenty of inventory for this. I sell on average 30-40 items per day. I also have a brick and mortar store that I only employee 2 persons at. My store is opened mainly for my weekly auction pickups. There is a lot of competition for good merch. You seem to be doing really good. Congrats on becoming a full time seller. There is only so much time in the day so to scale up you have to employee help that you trust 100 %
Dave, you're talking about going from a sole proprietor operation to having a fulltime employee with a middle step of only a very occasional part time employee who is a relative. I think that's too big a leap and would think about a transition to an unrelated part-time (15 hours a week) college student first with very specific written duties. To keep it legal, I'd hire the person as a contract employee by allowing him/her to choose their own hours as long as the total is the number you want. IMO you need a detail person for shipping and cross listing first and then maybe add duties according to the person's abilities. I'd have the employee read the prohibited items list for each site and make a list for each as one of their first tasks. You could also have them make up a time sheet form to keep their hours on. I think it will be a challenge to work in the same area where the employee will overhear your broadcasts and perhaps tempt you to waste work time with too many questions. Is it possible for them to work in a nearby room for part of their hours? I think it's definitely possible for the right employee to pay for themselves and more, but you have to establish what you want them to do and review frequently whether the goal is being met. You could measure progress by how many additional new listings you're able to do or how many fewer hours you're able to work for instance. Good luck.
Since Mercari can identify the listing to ban you, why don’t they create a warning during the listing process so you can catch the mistake before the ban?
@@joytoyouandme4593 When you try to list certain items on eBay, you get a warning in red at the top and it stops you from submitting the listing. Usually obviously illegal items... but also items banned for political reasons (Aunt Jemima items, certain Dr Seuss books, other politically incorrect nonsense.)
I think when the time is right, and you could afford a part time or full-time employee you should hire someone, absolutely. You enjoy sourcing and do a great job at it, but listing may not be your favorite. If you hire someone you would hopefully make more money have more time for your yourself. I am so happy about Mercari. Good for you Dave, I was rooting for you. 🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩
As long as you're willing to train, manage, oversee and learn to trust someone and the work they do so stuff like this knife incident doesn't happen again, then hiring someone can be beneficial.
@@SamMathiasArt whatever… look at all his videos. He’s always recording even before “proper grooming” because to keep feeding 3 monetized TH-cam channels, is a full-time content creation/editing job… from the moment you get your to you lay your head… bc that’s where the really money is coming from. To fit it all in, they start recording even before basic grooming happens. Just glad TH-cam doesn’t have smell-o-vision yet! Lol 😂
Lol good for him honestly, if I could be making money content creating I'd be doing it too and it's clearly working, if you say he's not grooming then I'm a full on dirty gremlin 😂 good for him putting providing for his fam first i see no issues lol
All plans proceedures and processes need to be tight before hiring and scaling in my opinion. If an employee isnt trained properly you can easily lose your accounts like you just found out. I know several resellers have hired and most find out that with the increase in listings etc you have to cash flow increase in inventory and expense of employee for several months before it cash flows positive.
So...I worked for a guy where I researched listed and shipped out all of his items while he ran a store front...I worked mon thru Friday 8-5 and he paid me under the table 400 a week now this was 8 years ago so costs weren't as high so it was good for me....he had a storage container full of items I would drive to fill up my car pull them clean them research pricing take pics and sale them....
I removed all my Vera Bradley items after seeing they are banned/restricted on Ebay's Vero list. I now have numerous Vera Bradley Items sitting in my death pile. I removed over 800 items out of 958 items out of my store seeing all the name brands on Ebay's restricted Vero list. I won't take a chance of being banned or sued. 24 yrs and sick of this!!! Aren't you scared of getting a lifetime bad from Ebay? I watch a lot of the resellers on You Tube and they seem fearless in listing all the restricted items on Ebay's Vero List. I don't get it at all. Perhaps the big time sellers have some kind of a reassurance/protection that Ebay won't give them Vero strikes or ban them. Like the videos and wish you good luck!
your goal should be to get out of the garage and get into a small warehouse, than start buying pallets full of merchandise that's when you'll start making serious money..
Maybe something like Kat has. Someone to help with shipping/photos? Kat finalizes the listings, not sure you'd want someone to do your listings right off the bat.
Even though Mickey is going off to college. If he knows all your log in info could he still not crosslist at his own pace from college for extra money since he already knows what to do? I'm only asking because I had a helper a while back I gave her my log in info with specific instructions as to what to do and because she was family I obviously trusted that she would only access what was necessary. I had her to shoot me a text before logging in and when logging out and it helped tremendously.
Happy that Mercari reinstated you. Hopefully they read your email and saw your video where you explained what happened and realized it was an honest mistake. I just followed you on Dibdit - how can I follow Kevin & Carey and any of the others there that I may be following? BTW - how's your stash of Jax holding out? On sale for $2.49/bag until Sunday 😂
If you enjoy Dave's blog good, if you don't have nothing good to say, just swipe on buy. I've been watching Dave for a few years now & yes he jumps from one thing to another, but don't we all? As I'm the same but get there inthe end. On the plus side you're also getting lots of information as he chats away. He also gives you an insight in his name ADHDAVE! Love his content as always mx
If I was you I would have systems in place that you follow first to prevent the knife situation from happening again. Then when you get that under control then hire someone, or if you do hire someone don't give them tasks that can get your accounts banned. Like cleaning items or building listings that you proof read. I have owned a retail store since 2011 and the hardest thing is getting other people to do things how you want them done, so I built systems and then train the people to follow them to a T.
It's helpful that you mention how many hours you put in. There seems to be an unrealistic image of reselling out there that thinks because there are fun and exciting aspects, it's somehow easy. There are a lot of moving pieces and I imagine so many more when you're a content creator. In order to scale, employees are probably going to be a necessity. Then you can focus on the parts you're most equipped to handle/enjoy and still have enough time to spend with family doing other things.
Set up a code you include with eBay listings that can't be cross listing and cost listing app should tell you that item can't be listed it should know all the rules with AI and look out for you why can't Mikey cross list from school if he wants to
When you were reinstated, did mercari also reinstate the 500 you said you had in your account? And, yes, very lucky you were reinstated. Mercari isn't known to go back on bans often.
Kat worked her store up to hiring employees. She took time to train them carefully, putting in the prices herself st the end. After several years of that, she is having a lot of fun doing the sourcing and being where she is today.
Don’t employ, outsource someone very detail oriented. You focus on sourcing & sales, let others do listings, inventory, shipping. It would 10x you very soon!
The cool thing if you get Mikey to work with you (full time) is that you will learn good stuff to pick and if at any point, you need to let him go or something like that he can utilize everything you taught him and be a picker as well
So, I own a coin shop in NC. I also sell on eBay and mercari. I've also thought about paying someone to list and ship. From what I understand, what's fair is $2 per post and $1 per ship. That person could easily earn $10 an hour under the table or more. The only big thing is that they'd have to understand that it's more of a part-time job. On your end, you'd have to make sure that you have the inventory to sustain a part-time employee.

Looks like there should be away for vendo to stop listing items that are not allowed on the different places
I was thinking the same thing, like Vendo won’t list things on a platform if against their rules!
I tried to sell vitamins on Mercari and they took them off so don't put any vitamins or meds on Mercari!

why under the table? If you pay them legally it is a business expense and nothing to worry about with the law.
It seems $2 to list is low if you expect them to do everything; clean, test, photos, research for pricing and descriptions, etc.
