Many rocks found on Mars contain a lot of iron. When they are exposed to the atmosphere, they oxidize and turn reddish, in other words, they get all rusty. Now, the dust storms on Mars which last for weeks or months kick up this rust into the atmosphere. Thus making Mars appear reddish.
